Veer bowed deeply, pressing his fist to his chest in a rare, formal display of absolute respect. "It will be done, Clan Leader."

As Sarn and Veer sprinted off to mobilize the war party, Cutie let out a low, concerned grunt, pointing at Kaya. He could see the tension radiating from her small frame.

Kaya let out a long, slow breath, looking back down at her blueprints for water filters and market stalls. She was trying so hard to build a civilization, a place of order and cleanliness in a chaotic, primitive world. But the beast world refused to let her build in peace.

She picked up her charcoal and snapped it cleanly in half.

"If they want to act like savage monsters," Kaya muttered to herself, staring at the jagged piece of coal, "then I guess I’ll just have to show them what a human is capable of when someone touches her bottom line."

Thirty miles northwest of the Venom-tooth Canyons, the jagged, rocky walls of Dead Man’s Ravine echoed with the guttural laughter of the Northern Wolf pack.

There were fifty of them, massive, heavily muscled beastmen covered in thick gray and white fur. They were gathered around several roaring campfires, gorging themselves on the roasted carcasses of the livestock they had slaughtered earlier that morning. Scattered around the perimeter of their camp were the burning, smoldering remains of merchant wagons and the torn bodies of the caravan guards.

The Alpha of the pack, a towering wolf with a jagged scar running across his snout, tore a massive chunk of meat from a roasted lamb leg and laughed, grease dripping down his chin.

"Safe roads!" the Alpha mocked, his voice a booming, abrasive bark. "The merchants actually believed the rumors! They thought this ’Free Clan’ could protect them from the true predators of the world! Let the human girl count her gold in her canyon. The open roads belong to the North!"

The pack howled in unison, a terrifying, bloodcurdling sound that sent the local wildlife scattering in absolute terror. They were arrogant, well-fed, and completely convinced of their own invincibility. They were Wolves. They were the apex pack hunters of the continent.

But they had forgotten one crucial rule of the wild.

When you are looking down at your prey, you forget to look up.

High above the ravine, completely hidden in the blinding glare of the midday sun, twenty massive shadows circled in perfect, silent synchronization.

Veer hovered at the apex of the formation, his massive obsidian wings catching the thermal drafts. His predatory eyes were locked onto the laughing Alpha below. The sheer audacity of these mutts, coming into his wife’s territory, burning her wagons, and thinking they could simply walk away to brag about it, made his Vulture blood boil with a terrifying, righteous fury.

He raised a single hand, signaling his vanguard.

Then, Veer folded his wings tight against his back and dropped from the sky like a falling star.

The twenty Vulture warriors followed suit. They didn’t scream a battle cry. They didn’t make a single sound. They simply fell, accelerating to terminal velocity, turning themselves into living, dark steel missiles.

Down in the ravine, the Alpha paused mid-bite. His sensitive ears twitched. He heard a strange, high-pitched whistling sound, like the air itself was being violently torn apart. He looked up, squinting against the harsh sunlight.

"Scatter!" the Alpha roared, his eyes widening in sheer panic.

He was a fraction of a second too late.

The Vulture vanguard slammed into the ravine with the force of an artillery barrage. They snapped their massive wings open at the absolute last possible second, the concussive force of the displaced air blasting the campfires apart and sending burning logs and embers exploding across the camp like shrapnel.

Veer didn’t even draw his blades. He landed squarely on the chest of a massive wolf beastman, the sheer kinetic impact shattering the wolf’s ribcage instantly. Before the surrounding wolves could even comprehend the aerial ambush, the Vultures were moving. They were a blur of dark feathers, razor-sharp talons, and curved steel, tearing through the disorganized pack with brutal, terrifying efficiency.

"Ambush! It’s the Vultures!" a wolf screamed, drawing a heavy iron broadax and swinging wildly at the air.

"Fall back to the pass!" the Alpha commanded, parrying a strike from a Vulture warrior. "They own the open air! Force them into the narrow pass where they can’t fly!"

The surviving wolves, relying on their deeply ingrained pack tactics, immediately abandoned their camp and sprinted toward the narrow, rocky exit at the southern end of the ravine. They were fast, their powerful legs eating up the distance in seconds. The Vultures pursued them from above, harrying their flanks, raining down throwing daggers and forcing them tighter and tighter together.

The Alpha led the charge, his heart hammering with adrenaline. He saw the narrow exit approaching. Once they were through the choke point, they could scatter into the dense forest and lose the birds in the canopy.

But as the Alpha rounded the final bend of the ravine, his blood ran completely cold.

The exit was blocked.

Standing shoulder-to-shoulder, completely blocking the thirty-foot-wide pass, was a solid, impenetrable wall of dark steel shields. Behind the shields stood fifty elite Snake guards, their eyes cold, their expressions entirely devoid of emotion. Interspersed between the scaled veterans were twenty of Bram’s hardened recruits, gripping their brand-new, high-carbon steel broadswords with white-knuckled intensity.

Sarn, the massive Python commander, stood at the center of the line. He raised his own heavy blade, pointing it directly at the charging Wolf pack.

"Free Clan!" Sarn’s voice boomed, echoing off the canyon walls. "Hold the line!"

"Hold!" Bram and the recruits roared in unison, bracing their boots against the dirt and locking their shields together into an unbreakable phalanx.

The Alpha wolf realized, with a sickening jolt of horror, that they hadn’t outrun the Vultures. They had been deliberately herded.

"Break them!" the Alpha screamed, having no other choice. If they stopped, the Vultures would tear them apart from behind.

The Wolf pack crashed into the shield wall with the force of a tidal wave. The deafening ’CRUNCH’ of heavy bodies slamming into steel echoed through the pass.

But the line didn’t break.

The Snake guards, trained for centuries in disciplined, static defense, absorbed the impact with terrifying stoicism. And the recruits, fueled by absolute loyalty to the human girl who had fed them and armed them, pushed back with the strength of desperate men.

"Strike!" Sarn ordered.

From the gaps between the shields, the Snake guards thrust their venom-laced spears forward with blinding, fluid speed.

They didn’t aim for the heavy fur or the thick muscle; they aimed for the knees, the ankles, and the throats. The recruits swung their new steel broadswords overhead, chopping down into the disorganized, panicked wolves.

It wasn’t a battle. It was an industrial meat grinder.

Caught between the unbreakable anvil of Kaya’s ground forces and the relentless, diving hammer of Veer’s aerial vanguard, the Wolf pack was systematically eradicated. The wolves fought with savage, desperate fury, but their chaotic pack tactics were entirely useless against the cold, calculated military doctrine Kaya had instilled in her troops.
