Just from one look, they knew that the explosion was not going to be small at all. The bomb was huge in size and extremely advanced. But what made it even more terrifying was the fact that this was not even the only bomb, and there were at least several more all over the tunnel system.

’If all of these detonate at the same time... Everyone will die... Nobody could survive it...’ Rize thought to himself.

"Rize... We need to move... We can only warn everyone up there before anything happens."

*BANG* *BANG*

Even as they were trying to understand the situation, the shots firing at them from the darkness continued endlessly.

"..." The boy pursed his lips and didn’t reply before he grabbed the corpse and started dragging it with Venera. The look in his eyes had shifted. His mind rushed through a thousand possibilities, and the solution simply seemed so far off. They didn’t have much time. As X said, even if they somehow made it to the surface and alerted the authorities, the rest of the Zathari were bound to unleash hell on the innocent civilians.

’They’re probably already alerted that we have screwed their plans. But I don’t think they will do anything until they’re sure the bomb will start ticking down.’

*BANG*

’Then... There is this bastard. He is 100% awakened. But something doesn’t make sense... Why isn’t he running toward us?’ Rize thought to himself. ’Isn’t he in a hurry?’

Just as he thought of those words, the silhouette emerged from the tunnel and for the first time, they could see his face... Or the lack thereof. The man was incredibly tall but skinny, with a mask that had two holes and no other features.

He was clad in black from head to toe, giving him a very eerie vibe that sent chills down the duo’s spines. The aura leaking out of him was very strong.

He stared directly at them through the mask with his odd eyes. Rize just felt something incredibly wrong with the man. He didn’t look right. All his senses were going off in his head, telling him to run for his life.

However, he could not do that when Venera was with him. Her safety was his priority now.

’I need to get her out of here before things get out of control.’ Rize thought to himself as he looked left and right. He needed a plan and very quickly.

Meanwhile, the man heavily breathed behind the mask, staring at the two as if they were his prey. His eyes were completely clouded with insanity as if he wasn’t even thinking at all. He slowly lifted his gun and aimed it at them. The two kept slowly retreating behind the bomb while the man walked after them.

’Why isn’t he running?’ Venera clenched her teeth as she kept staring behind her, fearing that more would come from there.

Each step felt like moving through a minefield. The man was getting closer and closer, and they could not do anything about it. Bullets didn’t work on him whatsoever.

"Venera... Listen to me... We need to find a way out of here. But we can’t keep moving like this." Rize said coldly. "I will hold the corpse as a shield, and I want you to run and find a way out."

"What? And leave you behind? Absolu-"

"What other option do you have? It’s either we both die, or one of us gets out and could get help. Come on, I will cover your back."

"You will die, Rize. Don’t you da-"

Just as Venera was about to try and oppose him, out of nowhere, the man launched himself forward at terrifying speeds. That entire time, he was walking slowly, so they were never ready for that instant burst of speed.

*BANG* *BANG*

Rize shot at him, but with quick and nimble steps, the man dodged the attacks, closing the distance between them. Rize’s entire body shuddered as he quickly looked at Venera. He didn’t think, didn’t contemplate.

His instincts moved for him as he pushed her to the side violently, getting her out of the way.

The girl fell to the ground, rolling a few times before she looked up. "Ri-"

All she saw was the boy flying back as he slammed into the wall. All the air was knocked out of his lungs as he fell to the ground.

’Fuck... I think he broke my rib...’ He coughed violently as he held his side and stared at Venera. "G-Go..."

The girl was in complete shock for a second. She wanted to say something but... Rize yelled again.

"JUST GO!!!"

The moment she heard that, Venera’s entire face changed, but she still stood up and started running through the tunnel. The man turned around and stared at her before he started to launch himself forward.

"No, you... won’t!" Rize said coldly as he grabbed the trigger. "Go after her and I’m breaking this thing into pieces!"

Gripping the trigger, he lifted it in the air. "You want this? Don’t you? Then your problem is with me, not her. I know damn well if you go after her, your entire plan will go up in flames." Rize said with a difficult tone as he held his side, wincing in pain. At the same time, he saw Venera disappear into the tunnel, and he exhaled.

’She should be able to find help and figure something out... As for me...’

The man started walking toward him.

’I’m in deep, deep trouble.’

Rize knew that he would get killed if he even tried to fight this man. But, at the same time, he had an advantage, which was the trigger in his hand.

"Try to hurt me, and I will break it faster than you could react," Rize said coldly. ’Fuck, this won’t work for long... Venera, please hurry...’

Rize said as he stood up and started retreating. His mind was in shambles, and he had no other plan.

’I’ve been in similar life-or-death situations. Surely I’m gonna be lucky this time too... right?’ He clenched his teeth as his face broke a sweat.

The man stared at him with intense eyes as if he didn’t like what Rize had said. However, he didn’t try to shoot him, knowing that the boy was probably ready for that and could break it before he fell to his own demise.

Several seconds passed, and yet they felt like hours for Rize.

’What is he gonna do? Will he attack? Maybe shoot me? Something else?’ His senses were heightened to the max, and his heart was racing like a drum in his ears.

After taking several steps back, Rize realized that he was now on the opposite side, facing the path that Venera went through. His eyes instinctively moved to look over his shoulder for a split second to make sure she wasn’t there.

Instantly, the man noticed that and slammed his hand into the ground. Instantly, the hand turned into a dark mist that rushed toward Rize. The boy sensed the approaching threat and jumped to the side, rolling on the ground.

*BOOOOOM*

The mist slammed into the wall, turning it into rubble.

"What the hell?!!!"

’If that hit me, I would’ve been pulverized!’ His face darkened as his eyes turned colder.
