Chapter 5: Chapter 5- Fighting Techniques
Chapter 5- Fighting Techniques
By the time the sun was high in the sky, Geralt finally stopped Rize. "Enough. You can eat something and rest for now."
The moment Rize heard that, he dropped to the ground, completely exhausted. His hand was a complete mess. His knuckles were completely peeled back, and flesh was visible; blood dried on his skin and made it appear sickly and dry. Geralt saw that, sighed before he turned around and pulled something out of nowhere.
"Here, drink this." He said. "Tier 4 healing potion."
"Tier 4?" Rize asked with an exhausted look. "Isn’t that very expensive, sir?"
"You can’t fight when your hand is injured like that. Come on, drink it."
’I forgot that this man is a part of the strongest empire in the world. They have infinite money and resources. This tier 4 potion is expensive to the average person, but for them? They basically have an infinite supply of it.’
Sighing, Rize grabbed the potion and drank it in one gulp. It had a fresh, minty flavor that instantly started healing his body. While a recovery potion focuses more on restoring his stamina and recovering his exhausted body, a healing potion focuses more on healing the wounds and injuries one would suffer. Both necessary for different situations.
Rize enjoyed the sensation of his hand healing as the numbness vanished and the bleeding stopped before the injury started closing up in real time. In a matter of minutes, it was almost completely healed back to normal.
After that, Rize stood up and stretched his sore body.
"We will continue after you rest properly in the evening."
"Yes, sir."
Rize then walked in just to find his meal ready. Geralt was the one responsible for feeding him, so he always found his meal ready, and they were all quite delicious even though they were very healthy.
After wolfing down his food, he finally walked into his room and lay down on his bed, falling asleep in an instant. Geralt made him take daily naps to boost his recovery. Everything in his life felt so measured and tight that he felt like a robot going through a predetermined path.
However, oddly, Rize felt quite good about himself. He was noticing how stronger he was getting. He was getting faster, stronger, more aware, and generally better. The progress was surprisingly addicting, and it only made him more and more motivated as time went by.
He knew that this was merely the start and that the tests were going to get very hard. Geralt had told him that he was only starting and that things were going to get much, much worse. Rize didn’t want to think about that and decided to tackle things one at a time.

*One Month Later*
"Too slow, Rize! You have to predict your enemy’s trajectory of attack and act accordingly!"
*CLING* *CLING*
Geralt moved his wooden sword as he clashed with Rize. The latter had his teeth clenched as he swung the sword left and right while attacking relentlessly. His movements were scarily fast for a kid his age. He also appeared quite knowledgeable with his movements as he tried to find loopholes and weak points in Geralt... Something he knew was impossible.
For the past month or so, Rize had been training in all forms of martial arts, all forms of weapons, on top of his physical training. His entire day became nothing but training, and his resting hours decreased a bit. He would do physical training in the morning, martial arts in the afternoon, and swordsmanship and other kinds of weapons in the evening.
Such a brutal daily routine would break any normal person. However, Rize weirdly found himself thriving in that atmosphere. He was absorbing the knowledge hungrily, adapting, learning, and improving.
In a mere month, he went from a clueless boy to a fighter with a lot of knowledge. He was certain that he could fight toe to toe with an average man, and that was already terrifying for a 7-year-old kid that didn’t even awaken his essence yet.
"HAH!!"
*CLING*
Rize thrust with his sword as he moved to the side. However, Geralt easily deflected it and then pushed Rize back several steps.
"You can’t show your intentions in your eyes. Your enemies will take that hint and counter your attacks. You will die, and so will her highness. Do you want that to happen, huh?!"
"..." Rize breathed heavily as he wiped his forehead. ’I don’t care if she dies or rots in hell, old man. I just want to get strong and survive on my own!’ He cursed.
"Come on now, show me what you’re capable of!"
The words riled Rize, who was already frustrated that he could never break through Geralt’s impenetrable defense. So, he brandished his sword and attacked again.
The sound of their swords clashing echoed in the dark forest.
For hours, Rize didn’t stop practicing his swordsmanship. It reached a point where he knew the moves by heart, and he could do them with his eyes closed. However, Rize’s aim was to reach a level of mastery that would make him do these moves as easily as breathing.
He knew that it came with long hours of practice and dedication, but he could tell that he was getting close to that. He didn’t know if he was fast or slow, but he knew he was on the cusp of reaching that goal.
"Hah... Hah... Hah..."
"We’re done for today," Geralt said as he put his sword to the side. "Go in, shower, and rest."
"Yes... sir..." Rize said with a cold tone as he stood up tiredly and walked in. After taking a shower, he stood in front of the mirror. He was shocked to see the sheer change he underwent. He was slightly taller, his body was more defined, and he just looked... different.
His lazy, weak eyes were fading slowly, and he didn’t even notice that till now. He felt the weak Ethan in him disappearing... Or so he thought.
"I’m really liking my new face. Being so handsome will definitely help me." He said as he touched his jaw. "I wonder if I could use it to my advantage haha... Rize was too stupid to do that, but he has such a lethal weapon, and he wouldn’t use it."
After that, he changed his clothes and walked into his room. Lying down, he fell asleep almost immediately from exhaustion.
Usually, Rize would just be knocked out for the entire night until he had to wake up early in the morning and start his training. However, that night, he woke up in the middle of the night feeling thirsty.
"Mmm..." Rubbing his eyes, he groggily walked out of his room to grab some water. As he walked through the corridors of the cabin, his eyes fell on a silhouette standing near the window. The moonlight cast its light on the silhouette, making it barely visible.
"Geralt?" He muttered as he noticed the old man staring into the distance. With a curious look, he went down the stairs and approached him.
He noticed that the man had a cup in his hand with some sort of liquid in it.
"Why are you awake this late?" Geralt asked without looking at Rize.
"I was going... to get some water."
"Hm." Geralt nodded faintly before he took a sip.
"..." Rize stood there awkwardly as he watched the man. He could tell there was something on his mind.
’Knowing this man, he rarely, if ever, shows any emotions... I wonder what’s bothering him.’ Rize thought to himself. ’But it’s none of my business... I think so.’
As he turned around to walk away, Geralt called for him.
"Come here, boy," Geralt said. "I need to tell you something."
"..." Rize turned around, a bit confused. Then he approached the man. His shadowy expression gave his already solemn look an even more menacing air.
"What is it?"
"Sigh." He sighed as he swirled the drink around in the cup. "You’re still a child, Rize. You are far from ready for this world yet. It is far too cruel and far too brutal. Be ready to see blood wherever you go. That is why I always say that your task to protect the princess is your life purpose. Countless people would be ready to do anything to get her, just so that they could get to her Esteemed father, his highness the King."
"..."
"Things are calm now, but it is all a facade. In a few years, the entire world will flip upside down... When that happens, you must be there for the princess and to protect her... Keep her alive because she carries the keys to peace." He said as he finally stared at Rize with calm eyes. "It is no exaggeration that I’m preparing you to save the world, Rize."
"..."
The boy was completely speechless. Geralt’s words hit him hard and made him realize. This entire month, he had only been training, eating, and sleeping. He didn’t give himself time to realize that this world he was in now was his new reality. This was his world.
It wasn’t a novel or fiction anymore; it was real life. He could truly die, and he could get hurt, and he could suffer... It would all be as real as it can get.
’I know, Geralt... I have already seen the future.’ He thought to himself. ’This world will change. But... Your princess, I never really cared about her. Her death or survival are meaningless to me. My only concern is my survival and my life. Nothing else.’
