Chapter 61: Chapter 61- Run (Part 2)

Chapter 61- Run (Part 2)

The sensation that Rize experienced at that moment was what he intimately called the ’tingles’. That was his instinct’s reaction to immense, life-threatening danger. When he is faced with a situation that could cost him his life, Rize would experience tingling in his body that told him to run as far and as fast as possible.

The tingling sensation he experienced at that moment was perhaps the most prominent in his life so far. He knew that merely seconds later, his head would be rolling on the ground. So, without a single moment of hesitation, Rize grabbed the phone with his hand as he instantly stood up and dashed toward the door as fast as he could.

His aura flared as Essence coursed through his body, increasing his speed a bit. At the same time, back in the room, Vigil frowned, still not fully aware of the situation.

Then, his eyes wandered to the table in front of him, and that was when he noticed something was missing. The phone was nowhere to be seen...

Vigil was no idiot or a fool. He was an awakened being with a lot of experience, and it’s for a good reason that the Zathari sent him to take care of this important mission. His power was nothing to scoff at.

"He escaped..." He muttered as his eyes started widening. Then, he instantly stood up. "He escaped!!!"

He rushed toward the door at top speed, kicking it open. "The prisoner escaped!! WAKE THE HELL UPPP!!" He slammed his fist against the metal door, creating loud noise before he rushed to the door.

"Huh?"

"What?"

Slowly, people started waking up, confused and drowsy. They heard their leader’s scream. Meanwhile, running across the open chamber, Rize looked left and right as people woke up from their slumber.

His face scrunched as he continued running. ’I need to find an exit! Just another sec-’

Looking back, Rize saw that Vigil was already in hot pursuit. His speed was levels ahead of Rize’s, so it was naturally not even a contest. The boy felt a chill run down his spine when he saw that. At the same time, he clicked on his phone and then tapped it a few times in a certain rhythm and fashion.

This was the danger signal Rob taught him to use in case of emergency. Doing it would send a signal to the capital that he was in danger, along with the precise location of his device. After tapping it, a notification appeared that Rize had successfully sent a signal.

’It’s now a matter of time before they come here. If I...’

"Where do you think you’re going?"

"...!!!"

Rize looked to the side just as a punch was swinging toward his face, merely inches away from him. The boy felt as if his life was flashing before his eyes.

’S-So... fast!!’

The punch moved at the speed of sound, or so he felt. But Rize didn’t waste time as he channeled all his Essence to the brim, which gave him even more reaction speed. He instantly ducked down as he grabbed his gun.

*BANG* *BANG*

Two bullets from close range- that was a deadly attack for any normal person. Even a weaker awakened would be lethally injured from that kind of attack. All weaker awakened...

Rize watched as Vigil disappeared like a ghost, dodging both attacks as if it were nothing. If he had a hunch that Vigil was the strongest enemy he had ever faced, then he was certain now that he was definitely the strongest enemy he had ever faced.

"Neat little trick, boy," Vigil said as he stomped down with his feet.

’Shit!’ The boy rolled to the side as he sprang into the air and continued running. His breath was rapid, but he remained calm even though he knew he was very screwed.

"Where do you think you’re going, bastard!"

As he was running, one of the Zatharis stood in his path with a sword in his hand. He wasn’t awakened, but he appeared strong. When Rize got close, he instantly swung the sword, aiming for his head.

Compared to Vigil, fighting that man was merely a joke.

*Swish*

Rize sidestepped the attack before he pulled the knife from under his sleeve and stabbed the man in the stomach.

"AUGH..." He exhaled a pained, shocked breath before Rize swiftly stabbed him in the neck, ending his life instantly. Blood splattered all over Rize, but he ignored it and tried to continue running.

[You have killed a mundane human.]

[You have gained +1 Point in Agility.]

He received a notification a second later. But Rize couldn’t even read it or bother with it.

"Mark of Valor."

Not even taking one step forward, Rize suddenly heard a whisper behind him. It was far away, but the chills it sent down his spine were immense. Something dangerous was rushing his way. Just as Rize turned around to look, he saw something miraculous.

There was a glowing, translucent sigil flying his way. It appeared in the shape of some runic letter. The boy’s purple eyes reflected the light as he watched it close in on him. He had no time to react; he was almost certainly going to get hit, and he didn’t know what to do.

[Danger detected!]

[Endless Hunger activated: Defense Mode!]

Suddenly, out of nowhere, Endless Hunger emerged from the depths of darkness as it flew into the air. This time, it didn’t take the shape of a tentacle, and rather, it was in the form of a barrier, thick and big enough to cover his body.

*BAAAANG*

"Ugh!"

Rize felt a wave of energy slam into his body as he slid back on the ground several feet, barely keeping his balance. Then, he stared up, his eyes wide from surprise. There, he saw a large gap in the wall created by Endless Hunger; through it, he saw Vigil with his confused look.

"He awakened..." Vigil muttered as he watched Rize turn around and start running again with no hesitation.

"Catch him! He must not escape the premises!"

The men were still confused from what happened, and nobody moved instantly.

"What are you waiting for?! Move!!"

Their leader’s voice made them instantly dash forward as they grabbed their weapons.

"Get him! We can’t let him escape!!"

"Where do you think you’re going, you rat!"

As Rize ran, the Zatharis instantly rushed at him from every angle.

’Endless Hunger, activate Assault mode!’ Rize thought as he dodged an incoming punch before swiftly slicing the man’s head. What he didn’t notice was that after awakening, his speed, reactions, and efficiency had jumped a notch. He could think faster, see faster, and hear faster, and they simply couldn’t keep up as mundane humans.

[You have killed a Mundane Human.]

[You have gained +1 Point in Strength.]

At the same time, Endless Hunger changed its shape to become a sharp dagger as it instantly lunged into its next target. Nobody there could see it clearly in the darkness, so the black matter had a field day with that.

*Swish*

Stabbing a target, it penetrated their heart with ease. Even though its movements were still sluggish and almost ’child-like’ in nature, it was still lethal and dangerous for normal people.

[Endless Hunger is learning.]

[Progress: Tier 1 (11%)]

The man fell dead to the ground while Rize received a notification. But this time, it had no points added.

That was the last of his concerns as the number of people rushing after him increased. Just as he reached the door, he kicked it open and ran inside.

"Get him!!"

"We can’t let him escape!!"

Meanwhile, Vigil was nowhere to be seen.
