Chapter 66: Chapter 66- Reunion
Chapter 66- Reunion
Venera was someone who was blessed with immense abilities to control her emotions. Being the princess of Sagardia and one of the most important people in the world, she had to learn how to remain in control of every situation she was in. Malicious people were bound to try to use her or make her slip up, so she had to be smart and calculating with every word she uttered.
Rarely did she ever feel anger, let alone feel enraged. Yet, at that moment, she felt as if her blood was boiling and her mind was filled with so much bloodlust that she wanted to hack that man into pieces. She had completely lost control of her emotions, something she had never experienced before.
’I’m going to kill him!!’ She clenched her teeth as her eyes flared up with desire for revenge. However, as her sword started descending, she suddenly stopped. Someone had grabbed her arm.
She looked up at Yelena, who had a serious look on her face.
"What do you want, Yelena? Let go." Venera said with a threatening tone.
"My apologies, Your Highness. I simply wanted to suggest something." Yelena said. "He deserves death for what he did. But if we keep him alive, he might give us useful information."
"..." Venera looked down.
"I understand how much you wish to end him right now, Your Highness. But I know you’re aware of how important this is to everyone. He will face what’s coming for him. Death would be his sweet release."
Venera clenched her fists around the sword, her hands shaking from sheer anger. Yelena watched silently, waiting for the princess to make a decision. She could tell that Venera was beyond enraged, and her desire to end that man was perhaps the strongest she ever felt.
However, at the same time, the woman was curious what Venera would do. Was she truly the princess she always felt she was? Or were emotions going to take over as any normal person would feel?
After several seconds of hesitation, Venera bit her lip before she slowly put her sword down. Then, she looked away as if she didn’t even want to see that man before her.
"Take him." She said as she walked back to Rize and picked him up.
Yelena looked at her for a second before she nodded and grabbed the injured man.
"Did you call for backup, Yelena?"
"Yes, they will be here soon. We don’t need to stay around. They will take care of the rest." Yelena said calmly as she walked after the princess.
"Hm," Venera replied as she looked at Rize, and her eyes flashed with care. He was still completely unconscious. "Let’s go."
"Understood, Your Highness."
Then, Yelena grabbed Venera’s shoulder, and a split second later, the group disappeared from sight as if they were never there. In the far distance, the light of aircraft illuminated the sky as the Royal Knights traversed the forest toward the location where Rize was.
The situation was only going to get more chaotic.
***
Rize felt like he was swimming in darkness; his entire body felt numb and painful even in his subconscious mind. He didn’t know how much time had passed since he fell unconscious.
But, slowly, that darkness started unraveling, and the light of the world slowly penetrated his vision as he opened his eyes. He frowned at the bright light. The sound of birds chirping in the distance filled his ears. He struggled to adjust to the sensory overload in that drowsy state.
"Where... am I?" He muttered as he opened his eyes and looked left and right. "Did I die...?" He asked himself.
However, the boy saw a ceiling and felt a soft mattress and pillow underneath him. He slowly rose from the bed, confused by his new environment. However, as he stared around, he realized that this wasn’t a new environment after all.
"My room?" He muttered as he touched his head. "I made... it?"
He couldn’t believe that. He was dead meat. The last thing he remembered was Vigil raising his sword to cut his head off. Yet, somehow, now he was alive and back at the palace? How did that happen?
"Mmm..."
As he was trying to understand what truly happened, he heard a soft moan next to him. His eyes looked down, only to be surprised.
Sitting on a chair near him with her head leaned against the bed was Venera. She was completely deep asleep.
"..." Rize stared at her for a few seconds and then stared at his surroundings again. "Well, this is a bit confusing..." He muttered. ’I might’ve missed a page. What is she doing here?’
Rubbing his eyes, Rize tried to push the blanket off of him, only to suddenly feel a sharp pain assault his torso. He squinted and made a pained noise. Looking down, Rize realized that he was completely shirtless with bandages wrapped around his body and neck.
He didn’t even notice that his head was also bandaged until he touched it.
"Hm." He hummed. ’They really made it in time to save me. I thought it was going to be impossible. Normal traversing would’ve taken them quite a long time to make it to me. I wonder what Venera did...’
That was when it dawned on Rize. Venera came... She had responded to his signal and came immediately. She didn’t ignore it, didn’t throw him away as his doubtful mind thought. That idea gave him a feeling that he had never experienced before. Something that he had always sought and yet couldn’t truly grasp what it was.
’Why did I even think that she might not come?’ He mused. ’I’m such a pessimistic fool. Dammit, focus, Rize. This isn’t who you used to be anymore.’
As he was lecturing his negative side, he suddenly felt a movement to his side along with a soft breath.
"Mmmm..." Venera apparently felt the rustling as she slowly opened her eyes and looked up, still drowsy. "...Rize...?" She asked in a soft tone.
"Yeah, it’s me," Rize said with a smile.
"Rize..." She whispered again before her eyes suddenly shot open as she jumped up, taking him by surprise. "Rize!"
"Wha..."
Before he could even understand what was happening, the girl suddenly jumped on him, wrapping her arms around his neck and pulling him into a tight hug.
It felt like someone electrocuted him for a moment as he froze in place and looked down.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, calm down, princess. What is happening he-"
"I’m glad," Venera whispered as she tightened the hug. "I’m really glad you’re alive..."
"..."
Her tone made the boy look down, trying to see her expression. But she hid it away, which didn’t really change much when her body was showing him how she was feeling. Fear, relief, hope, and... guilt?
"I’m so sorry for being so late... You could’ve died if I didn’t come in time." She said. "I’m deeply sorry."
"... Hey now, why are you even apologizing? You saved my life, you know?" Rize said with a calm, soft tone. "I owe you one."
"No." Venera shook her head as she pulled away. "I don’t know the unimaginable suffering you went through in that place. It is all because of me. It’s because you had to stay behind and find a way to defuse that bomb. I should’ve done better."
"..."
"I should’ve done way better."
