Chapter 83: Chapter 83- How Threatening!
Chapter 83- How Threatening!
"This is a mess..." Rize stood up as he looked around him. His eyes scanned the area, searching for anything that could be suspicious. However, judging from how Yelena and the king himself reacted, it seemed that they didn’t know who the person controlling these humans was.
However, a part of Rize still told him that this mysterious person was there, watching the entire scene unfold. After all, there was simply no way someone as smart and as meticulous, but most importantly as hell-bent on taking down the king, wouldn’t be there to witness how he reveals the truth before the masses.
’Where are you?’ Rize’s eyes squinted as he clenched his teeth. ’I know you’re here somewhere, watching with a grin on your face. Show yourself.’
"Rize?"
"Let’s move out of the way for now," Rize said as he looked at Venera. "I don’t like how things are going."
Venera didn’t reply immediately as she looked at her father while he was facing the controlled masses. Then, her eyes shifted to the silent crowd. The looks told her more than enough about what they were thinking. Her father’s plan to hide everything from the masses had failed. Now, even if he somehow tried to rectify it by pretending like this was just another maniacal attempt at attacking him, people would start raising more questions, and this time, he can’t really keep everything shrouded in mystery.
’Even if they remain clueless, they won’t be very happy with it.’ Venera thought to herself. This was bad, and not just for her father, but for the nation as a whole. That will almost certainly divide the people between those who oppose the war and those who are with it.
Division was the worst possible outcome for an empire as big as Sagardia, and Theodore knew that; that was probably why he didn’t try to stop them and opted to calm the situation and face this man who wanted his death.
It was the smartest choice.
"Do everything you can and more; you will certainly fail." He said with a cold tone; his aura alone sent chills down the spines of everyone present. The king was mad, and rightfully so. His anger, as much as it was under control, still felt like a life-threatening situation to those who could sense its true scope.
’What a freakish monster.’ Rize thought to himself. ’ He isn’t even releasing his aura, and I feel like I have a sword against my neck. How does someone even reach that level of power?’
Rize could see the palpable energy surrounding Theodore’s body. It was so vast and powerful that he felt pitiful in comparison. Like an ant staring at a true god, the difference was astronomical, if not outright ridiculous.
"Now, leave these people." Saying that, Theodore put his hand on the man’s shoulder, and suddenly, his wide, terrifying eyes lost all that light, and he fell to the ground unconscious. Then, Theodore looked around him and snapped his fingers.
A wave of energy swept through the plaza, sucking all the energy out of the citizens. They all dropped to the ground, one by one.
"Take care of them and make sure they’re all fine," Theodore said to one of his assistants.
"Understood, Your Majesty."
Then, Theodore walked to the podium again. "As you all saw, these people do not wish for our empire to fall. They would spout lies and use you, the innocent people, as tools to achieve their goals. They don’t have any morals. We will be attacked from every front, so I only ask you, people, to remain steadfast and not fall for their illusions."
Not many reacted to his words. What just happened was simply too baffling to witness. Who did that? How were they able to control them? And more importantly, what did he make them say?
Many had questions, but they couldn’t ask the king, so they opted to remain silent instead. With that, what was before a successful speech had entered a rather weird state. Nobody seemed fully convinced, and yet they weren’t fully suspicious. They danced between disbelief and hope, two things that contradicted themselves naturally.
With that, the speech came to an end, just like that. Saying more could potentially make the entire situation worse.
With that, the king left, and so did most people, as they realized that staying there could be dangerous. There was a looming silence cut through by small conversations here and there.
"Let’s go, Rize. There is no point in staying here." Venera said as she looked at him. "What happened had happened..."
Rize nodded as he stared at the Royal Knights. They had already scattered across the entire place, searching for any clues of the culprit. It was pointless, though; that person was able to leave no trace behind, or the king would’ve noticed.
Still, it was worth searching around in hopes of discovering something that could lead them to their man.
Rize then turned around and started walking after Venera. Even though he kept an eye on his surroundings, his mind was plagued with thoughts.
’What am I missing?’ He frowned. ’I feel like there is a detail I’m not fully thinking about. He had to have been there, and he had to have been very close...’
Rize had scanned every face that walked into their vip area, and none seemed to stand out to him. Perhaps that was it; he was able to seamlessly blend with the crowd so easily that nobody could truly suspect him.
But that only made him scarier because he dared to mock the king right to his face without hesitation. Beyond his main message, it was also a warning to Theodore that he had access to many people and, if he wanted, he could do anything to anyone. Facing him like that was pure psychological warfare, trying to make Theodore paranoid of every single face around him.
He wanted him to lose trust in his closest people, including his family. Even the strongest could never handle being afraid of everything. It was brilliant as much as it was evil.
’Luckily, he didn’t decide to harm anyone as a show of power. However, if he decided to do it... How could anybody stop him?’
Just imagining the scenes, the bloodshed and the terror, it sent chills down his spine. This was far more dangerous than anyone could’ve imagined. A man who had no morals with one sole goal, and no hesitation in doing whatever he needed to do to make sure that he reached that goal.
’He had already shown that he would kill innocent people if needed.’ Rize frowned as he got inside the car and stared outside the window. ’Why didn’t he do it, though? I would have thought he would’ve gotten a way stronger reaction if he did. Maybe he’s keeping that trump card for when he needs it? Or maybe there are limitations to what he can do with his ability?’
The more Rize thought about it, the more he felt like he was going down a deep rabbit hole. It occupied his mind like nothing else.
’This is so annoying.’
