Chapter 91: Chapter 91- Dazzling

Chapter 91- Dazzling

After walking for a while, the group finally emerged from the forest into the vast plain. Rize took a moment to take in the cold gush of wind that swept across before he exhaled a long breath. He had been hunting for a few hours, so the sun was already in the heart of the sky, casting its warm light upon the entire world.

"Let’s go," Rize said.

The tired, sad group followed him in silence, carrying their dead comrade carefully and gently. The moment they reached the gates, the guards were instantly alarmed as they gathered around them. However, Rize was able to mitigate the situation after showing them his sigil and explaining the situation.

It didn’t help that the entire city was in a state of panic, so seeing a dead corpse being brought into the city wasn’t a good sight at all. So, the guards called an ambulance.

"The ambulance will carry you to the hospital, where they will take care of him and you all," Rize said. "One of you should give me their number so I can contact you later. I will tell you what to do."

"..." The group stared at him speechlessly. They couldn’t find the words of gratitude to say to him after everything he did. However, Ivan still bowed down.

"Thank you so much for everything, Rize... We owe you your lives more than anything." He said. "We can never repay you for the great kindness you gave us."

"Don’t worry about it," Rize replied. "I’m just doing what I think is right. Anyway, just take care of yourselves, and we will take care of it later. Give me your number."

After getting their contact information, Rize bid them farewell as they got onto the ambulance and moved away. The boy stood there for a second and stared around him. The city was as active as ever, but whether it was because he knew what had happened, or if it was simply a feeling... Everything felt so much more dull and colorless.

The energy in the air that he felt when he took his first step into this place was just not there anymore, and he didn’t know if he liked that change or not.

"Sigh, what am I even thinking of?" Rize muttered as he started walking. "I guess my training is done for the day... Don’t feel like doing more."

The bitter taste the death of that man left in his mouth made him decide to end it for the day. Either way, the boy had done what he wanted to do and more. He had gained so many stat points, progressed his Gift, his rank, and his Blade of Wrath, and he was able to learn a lot more about his abilities.

It was a very fruitful day, so he decided to end it that way, on as positive a note as he could. Tomorrow will be a new day.

Making his way back to the palace, he walked into his room and immediately took a shower to wash all the blood off his body. For a while, he stared under the warm water, simply staring into the nothingness.

It was odd.

Rize wasn’t new to seeing dead people; he had even killed multiple himself, and even though it affected him, it didn’t really make him feel this way. Yet, for some reason, seeing that man’s dead corpse just made him feel so annoyed. Perhaps he was spared the hell of seeing the dead corpses of the innocent civilians in the amusement park.

’Yet, Venera not only saw all of that, but she’s their princess, their potential ruler in the future. I can’t imagine the pain and guilt she felt at that moment.’ He clenched his fist as he put it against the wall. Water dripped down his hair as his eyes turned cold.

"Weakness... is a curse." He muttered. "A curse that only brings sadness and grief. I’ve never seen a weak person who didn’t suffer and didn’t get the short end of the stick. People talk about justice and fairness and good, when all that this world depends on is power. Your fate is always in the hands of the stronger person."

Did Rize like that? Absolutely not, but it was the truth, and he had to accept it one way or the other. He didn’t want to be weak; he didn’t want to lose anyone he cared about or face unfairness. He wanted to fend for himself.

"I will get stronger. Stronger than all of you." He said.

After finishing the shower, Rize turned around and walked out of the room. As he was drying his body, he heard a knock on the door.

"Who?"

"It’s me, Rize. Can I come in?" Venera asked from the other side.

"Yeah, hold on a second," Rize said as he put on a shirt and shorts before he walked to the door and opened it.

"I was going to ask Rob if you came back or no-" Just as Venera spoke, she stopped as she saw Rize. His face, still wet. His hair, dripping softly. A towel hanging around his neck.

It was a sight she had never seen before, and it made her freeze for a second. Rize’s handsome face was simply unbearable sometimes, even for someone as stoic as she was.

"Yeah, I came back a bit ago."

"Ehem, sorry for coming uninvited. I will let you-"

"No, it’s fine. I’m already done; you can come in." Rize said as he let her walk in. The girl had a weird expression on her face, but it dissipated quickly as she sat down on the bed.

"How was your training?"

"It went pretty well. I got a lot stronger." Rize said. "Definitely good progress for a first day out there. However..."

"However?"

Rize sighed as he sat down in the chair and told Venera everything that happened. The girl listened quietly as she nodded her head. When he was done, Venera had a slightly dark expression on her face.

"I see... That is truly awful." She said. "Many people face the same fate. They come here thinking they could achieve their dreams with ease, and they end up dead in the forest. Except many are never found."

"It’s... Really eye-opening." Rize said. "It is not a joke. None of this is a joke or a game. People’s lives are truly on the line, and I didn’t really think that deeply about it before."

"We both didn’t... Until what happened recently." Venera said. "Sigh, with the panic and the fear going on, the independent awakened are now opting to go out and risk their lives more to try and get stronger, hoping they could join the expedition."

"Why?"

"Prestige, promised wealth, and naturally... Power." Venera said. "Oh, don’t forget the blind belief in my father’s words."

"... Right," Rize said. "I guess they did say something along those lines."

"Yeah, they’re not the only ones. But..." Venera stood up, walked to Rize, and tapped his shoulder. "It shows how kind and beautiful your heart is when you go out of your way to help them so much. You’re a good person, Rize."

A faint smile appeared on Venera’s face, one so mesmerizing, it left him stunned for several seconds. All he could think of was one word.

’Dazzling.’
