Virat: Abandoned by Destiny

Chapter 61 — The Kingdoms Beyond the River

Narrator

"A kingdom may honor a warrior with a medal..."

"But some people earn their titles long before a king gives them a name."

"They earn them through the choices they make..."

"Through the people they protect..."

"And through the moments when standing alone would have been easier than standing together."

Morning slowly returned to Restart Village.

The storm had disappeared.

The clouds that had covered the sky for hours were finally breaking apart.

Golden sunlight slipped between them.

The sacred river flowed quietly beside the village.

Its surface reflected the pale morning sky.

Birds slowly returned to the trees.

The broken doors.

The damaged houses.

The muddy streets.

Everything carried the scars of the previous night.

But the village was alive.

People were alive.

Families were together.

And for the first time in what felt like an eternity...

There was silence.

Not the frightening silence of fear.

A peaceful silence.

The kind that comes after surviving something that should have destroyed you.

Villagers slowly gathered in the center of Restart Village.

Some were still exhausted.

Some had bandages around their arms.

Others were repairing their homes.

Children stayed close to their parents.

Kai stood beside Niki.

T remained close to Lily.

And V...

V was still asleep.

Inside his home.

Lily sat beside him.

She gently moved a strand of white hair away from his forehead.

T sat on the other side of the bed.

She held his hand with both of hers.

"Brother..."

She whispered.

"He is sleeping for so long."

Lily smiled faintly.

"He needs it."

T looked at V.

"Is he okay?"

Lily looked at her son.

For a moment...

She said nothing.

Then she gently touched his forehead.

"He protected us."

Her voice became softer.

"Now we protect him."

Outside...

Brald stood beneath the morning sunlight.

His clothes were still damaged from the battle.

The restraints were gone.

But his eyes were fixed on the village.

On the people.

On the houses.

On the river.

On everything he had spent his life protecting.

A horse approached.

The Holy Kingdom's King stepped down.

Behind him stood Maelis Vorne.

And beside them...

Alistair.

The thousand soldiers had already secured the area.

But the King did not allow them to remain in the village square.

He had come without a parade.

Without banners.

Without ceremony.

Because this was not a conquest.

This was an apology.

The King walked toward Brald.

Brald bowed slightly.

"Your Majesty."

The King stopped before him.

"Rise."

Brald straightened.

For a few seconds...

Neither man spoke.

The King looked around.

At the damaged houses.

At the villagers.

At the sacred river.

Then he looked back at Brald.

"I have ruled a kingdom for many years."

Brald listened.

"And yet..."

The King slowly exhaled.

"Last night reminded me of something rulers often forget."

Brald remained silent.

"A village does not become important because a kingdom declares it important."

His eyes moved toward the villagers.

"It becomes important because people are willing to stand and protect it."

A faint breeze passed through the square.

The leaves above them moved gently.

The King looked directly at Brald.

"You stood against an enemy who tried to take your village through fear."

"You refused to surrender the freedom of your people."

"And when your own position was threatened..."

"You chose your people over your title."

Brald lowered his eyes.

"I only did what a leader should do."

The King shook his head.

"No."

A pause.

"Many leaders say that."

"Very few prove it."

The King turned toward Maelis.

Maelis stepped forward carrying a small royal case.

He opened it.

Inside was a silver insignia bearing the emblem of the Holy Kingdom.

The King took it.

Then he faced Brald again.

"From this day forward..."

"By the authority of the Crown of the Holy Kingdom..."

"I recognize you as..."

He paused.

The entire village became silent.

"The Sage Guardian."

Brald's eyes widened slightly.

The villagers looked at each other.

The King continued.

"Not because you possess the greatest strength."

"But because you understand something greater than strength."

"Responsibility."

Brald looked toward the villagers.

His eyes softened.

"I accept it."

The King nodded.

"Then carry it well."

Brald smiled faintly.

"I will."

For a moment...

The village remained silent.

Then one villager slowly raised his hand.

Another smiled.

Then another.

Soon...

The square filled with applause.

Not loud.

Not celebratory.

Something warmer.

Something earned.

Brald looked at his people.

His eyes became slightly wet.

But he did not wipe them.

He simply smiled.

Then...

The King turned.

His gaze settled on Alistair.

Alistair stood quietly beneath the shadow of a tree.

His cloak moved gently in the morning wind.

The King walked toward him.

Alistair raised an eyebrow.

"Your Majesty?"

The King stopped before him.

"You have always disliked attention."

Alistair gave a faint smile.

"Because attention makes shadows less useful."

Maelis almost smiled.

The King did not.

Instead...

He studied Alistair carefully.

"You crossed the Kingdom of Spades."

"You entered the Holy Kingdom."

"You reached my throne."

"You carried evidence that prevented a political disaster."

"And you returned to the village before the situation became irreversible."

Alistair remained silent.

The King continued.

"Most people who work in darkness are eventually forgotten."

"But some shadows..."

"Protect the light."

He held out the royal insignia.

"Alistair."

A pause.

"From this day forward..."

"The Crown recognizes you as..."

"The Ghost."

The village became quiet again.

Alistair looked at the insignia.

Then at the King.

"The Ghost?"

The King nodded.

"Because when kingdoms see the consequences of your actions..."

"They rarely see you."

Alistair gave a small smile.

"That sounds more like a curse than a title."

The King finally smiled.

"Then wear it like one."

Alistair accepted the insignia.

He looked at it for a moment.

Then placed it beneath his cloak.

"I will."

From somewhere behind them...

A voice called out.

"Alistair!"

Brald.

Alistair turned.

Brald walked toward him.

For a moment...

The two men simply looked at each other.

Then Brald smiled.

"You came back."

Alistair's expression softened.

"You called."

Brald laughed quietly.

"I suppose I did."

They stood together beneath the morning sky.

Two men.

One who protected the village openly.

One who protected it from the shadows.

The King watched them.

And for a brief moment...

The politics between kingdoms disappeared.

There were no borders.

No treaties.

No titles.

Only people.

Then...

A small voice came from behind them.

"Father..."

Everyone turned.

V stood at the entrance of his house.

His hair was messy.

His eyes were half-open.

He looked completely exhausted.

T immediately ran toward him.

"Brother!"

V barely managed to stay standing as she hugged him.

Lily followed.

"Slowly, T."

V looked around.

He noticed the King.

His sleepy eyes widened.

"...Who is that?"

Brald laughed.

For the first time since the storm...

The village laughed with him.

The King looked at V.

And something about the boy's innocent expression made him smile.

"That..."

The King said quietly.

"...is the boy everyone was afraid of last night."

V blinked.

"I was?"

Kai laughed from behind.

"You don't even remember."

V looked confused.

"I was sleeping."

T giggled.

Lily covered her mouth.

Even Alistair smiled.

The village finally felt alive again.

But far away...

Behind the mountains...

The political world had already begun moving.

Part 2 — The Truth Behind the Blade

The afternoon sun had begun to descend.

The Holy Kingdom's soldiers were preparing to leave.

Horses stood along the village road.

Armor reflected the golden sunlight.

The river continued flowing beside them.

Unchanged.

Unstoppable.

The King stood with Brald, Alistair and Maelis near the edge of the village.

There was one final matter to discuss.

The King looked toward the river.

"The agreement concerning this river..."

Brald nodded.

"It still stands."

"It must."

The King looked at him.

"Yes."

Maelis opened a document.

"The ancient river treaty was signed by multiple kingdoms."

"The river cannot be blocked."

"No kingdom can redirect its flow for political or military advantage."

"And Restart Village..."

Maelis looked toward the village.

"...was granted independent status because of its role in maintaining the purification system."

Brald remained silent.

The King continued.

"That independence will remain."

Alistair looked at him.

"Even after what happened?"

The King nodded.

"Especially after what happened."

He looked toward the sacred river.

"If I allow Lazim's actions to become a reason for changing the treaty..."

"Then every kingdom will begin questioning the agreement."

"And once treaties become tools instead of promises..."

"They stop protecting anyone."

The wind moved through the grass.

Brald looked toward the river.

"So the King of Spades protected his kingdom by refusing to fight."

The Holy King nodded.

"Yes."

A long silence followed.

Then Alistair spoke.

"But now he knows the truth."

"He will."

The King looked at Alistair.

"I will send him the verified evidence personally."

"And I will make one thing clear."

"What?"

"Restart Village is not a weapon of the Holy Kingdom."

Brald looked at him.

The King continued.

"It is an independent settlement."

"The river treaty remains untouched."

"And neither Spades nor the Holy Kingdom will use this village as a political battlefield."

Alistair smiled faintly.

"That may prevent another war."

"That is the intention."

Maelis closed the document.

"But there is still Lazim."

The atmosphere changed.

The peaceful afternoon suddenly felt colder.

Brald's expression hardened.

"He will answer for what he did."

The King nodded.

"He will be taken to the Holy Kingdom."

Brald looked at him.

"Before that..."

"I know."

The King understood.

"You want to question him yourself."

Brald's eyes became sharp.

"Yes."

"For the people of this village."

The King studied him for a moment.

Then nodded.

"You have my permission."

Alistair looked toward Brald.

"There is something else."

Brald turned.

"Malrik."

Silence.

The name fell heavily between them.

Maelis lowered his eyes.

The King already knew.

"His actions..."

Brald said quietly.

"...were not entirely his own."

Alistair nodded.

"Lazim used his mother."

The King remained silent.

Brald's voice became softer.

"He was trying to protect the last person he had."

The wind passed between them.

No one spoke for several seconds.

Then the King said:

"Then history should remember the difference between a man who chooses evil..."

"...and a man who is forced into it."

Brald looked toward the village.

"Malrik betrayed us."

A pause.

"But he was also betrayed."

The King nodded.

"Then let the truth record both."

Brald's eyes remained on Malrik.

He was standing some distance away.

His shoulders were lowered.

His face carried the weight of everything he had done.

Brald slowly walked toward him.

Alistair and the King remained silent.

Malrik looked up.

His eyes met Brald's.

Neither spoke.

The wind moved between them.

Brald finally said:

"An axe..."

Malrik's expression changed slightly.

"It is made to cut wood."

He looked toward the damaged houses.

"The blade is made of iron."

Then his eyes moved toward Lazim.

"But iron alone cannot become an axe."

Malrik lowered his head.

"It needs a handle."

Brald's voice became quieter.

"And that handle..."

"is made of wood."

A long silence.

Brald looked directly into Malrik's eyes.

"Restart Village was the wood."

"Lazim was the iron."

"And you..."

His voice almost disappeared.

"...were the handle."

Malrik's fingers trembled.

"I know..."

His voice cracked.

"I know what I did."

Brald did not look away.

"You gave him what he needed."

"I know."

"You helped him reach people."

"I know."

"You helped him raise the blade."

Malrik closed his eyes.

"I know."

Silence.

Then Alistair finally spoke.

His voice was low.

Calm.

Almost painfully quiet.

"Apno ko kaatne ka kaam hamesha apna hi karta hai."

Everyone became silent.

The words remained hanging in the air.

The river flowed in the distance.

The sound seemed strangely loud.

Malrik slowly looked at Alistair.

Alistair continued.

"The blade may belong to an enemy..."

"But sometimes..."

"The hand that holds it comes from within."

Malrik's eyes became wet.

"I never wanted to hurt this village."

His voice trembled.

"I only wanted to save my mother."

Brald's expression softened.

"I know."

"But that doesn't erase what happened."

Malrik lowered his head.

"I know."

"I will carry it."

Alistair said nothing.

The wind passed quietly through the broken village.

For a moment...

Malrik no longer looked like an enemy.

He looked like another person destroyed by Lazim's scheme.

Brald looked at him.

"You were wrong."

Malrik nodded.

"But you were not the one who created this weapon."

His eyes moved toward Lazim.

"He was."

Lazim remained silent.

For the first time...

The man who had controlled everyone else had nothing to say.

Part 3 — The Road Home

The sun had begun sinking behind the mountains.

The sky had turned orange.

The sacred river reflected the fading light.

The King finally turned toward his soldiers.

"Our work here is finished."

Maelis bowed.

"Your Majesty."

The King looked once more toward Restart Village.

Children were playing again.

Villagers were repairing houses.

Lily stood outside her home.

T was beside her.

Kai and Niki were talking nearby.

And V...

V had already fallen asleep again.

Sitting beneath a tree.

His head resting against the trunk.

Brald smiled.

The King noticed.

"That boy..."

Brald looked at V.

"He's still a child."

The King smiled.

"Perhaps."

His eyes remained on V.

"But sometimes..."

"A child's heart can carry more courage than an army."

Brald said nothing.

The King turned toward his horse.

He mounted.

Maelis followed.

The soldiers began forming ranks.

Alistair stood beside Brald.

The King looked back one final time.

"Brald."

"Yes, Your Majesty?"

"Take care of this village."

Brald smiled.

"I always have."

The King nodded.

Then his eyes moved toward Alistair.

"And you..."

Alistair raised an eyebrow.

"Your Majesty?"

The King gave him a faint smile.

"Try not to disappear for too long."

Alistair smiled.

"No promises."

The King laughed softly.

Then...

He raised his hand.

The soldiers began moving.

Hooves struck the earth.

THUD.

THUD.

THUD.

The army slowly disappeared down the road.

Maelis looked back once.

Alistair remained standing.

The King continued forward.

Soon...

Only a trail of dust remained.

Brald stood silently beside Alistair.

The sunlight slowly turned orange.

The sacred river reflected the evening sky.

Restart Village had survived.

The political storm had passed.

But the world beyond the village...

Was changing.

The Holy Kingdom now knew the truth.

The Kingdom of Spades would soon receive it.

And the ancient agreements protecting the sacred river had gained a new meaning.

The village was no longer invisible.

It had been noticed.

By kings.

By kingdoms.

By shadows.

And haps...

By forces far greater than any of them understood.

Brald looked at Alistair.

"So..."

"The Ghost."

Alistair sighed.

"Don't start."

Brald laughed.

"You earned it."

Alistair looked toward the road where the King had disappeared.

Then toward the village.

"Maybe."

A pause.

"But I'd rather remain a shadow."

Brald smiled.

"Some shadows are remembered."

The two men stood quietly.

Above them...

The first stars appeared.

And beneath them...

Restart Village finally breathed peacefully again.

Narrator

"The King returned to his throne."

"The soldiers returned to their kingdom."

"The political storm moved beyond the mountains."

"But the village remained."

"Its people remained."

"Its river remained."

"And the ones who had protected it..."

"Would carry the names they had earned."

"Brald White..."

"The Sage Guardian."

"Alistair..."

"The Ghost."

"And somewhere beneath the quiet evening sky..."

"A young boy slept peacefully..."

"unaware that the world had already begun to notice his name."

V White.
