Chapter 454 - 453- Straw Doll’s father (2)

After some time of running, Grey felt the intense dread in his heart slowly subside. The oppressive feeling that had been weighing heavily on him gradually faded until, eventually, the fear he had once felt completely disappeared.

When he finally looked behind him, he did not see the straw doll following him.

Grey could not help but let out a long sigh of relief.

The bizarreness of the situation had kept him on constant edge, making him feel as though his life was perpetually in danger. Even now, despite the disappearance of the straw doll, he could not completely relax.

The blue flower Violet used to communicate with Grey was tucked safely inside his robes.

However, the captain had remained unusually silent since the strange encounter. Grey had not heard her voice for quite some time, except when she occasionally gave him directions on which path to take.

Inside the blue flower, Violet’s expression was solemn.

"The straw doll we encountered is very strange. Moreover, it seems to have some sort of connection to Grey. It called him Father."

Violet’s brows furrowed slightly.

"But this is the first time Grey has come here, and it is also the first time he has ventured this deep into the Corroded Zone. There is no way he could have met that straw doll before."

She mumbled to herself in a low voice, one that was too faint for even Grey to hear. The usual amusement and casualness in her voice were nowhere to be found.

"But I must not forget that bizarre existences are called bizarre precisely because no one can understand them or the reasoning behind their actions."

Violet’s expression became increasingly serious.

"They are the residual powers formed when God’s blinding radiance strikes the land and causes it to mutate. Apart from the corrosive substances found within Corroded Zones, bizarre existences are among the most difficult things to deal with. That is precisely why Corroded Zones are so dangerous."

She fell silent for a moment.

"Perhaps venturing into the depths was a mistake."

There were simply too many unknown variables lurking within this place.

The deeper they went, the more bizarre existences and powerful mutated creatures they encountered. Even someone like Violet, who had explored countless dangerous places in the past, could not help but feel a trace of caution.

"There are too many unknown variables lurking around. And the number of Bizarre existences we have encountered so far is staggering."

Violet sighed softly.

But just as quickly as her solemnity appeared, it disappeared.

A strange smile slowly formed on her face.

"But where is the fun in that?"

Her eyes shone with excitement.

"This treasure must be extremely rare if it can attract so many bizarre existences and powerful mutated creatures. There must be something extraordinary hidden here."

The excitement in her voice gradually intensified.

"Even if I have to kill myself again, I must find out what it is!"

Her voice was suddenly filled with excitement and ecstasy.

If Grey could hear her at that moment, he would immediately realize that Violet was speaking in the same crazy manner she had used in the past.

The captain was back.

Or perhaps she had never really changed in the first place.

As Grey continued running through the ruins of the destroyed city, he occasionally encountered hostile mutated creatures.

Most of them were relatively weak.

They hid inside the broken buildings, beneath collapsed walls, or within the narrow crevices scattered throughout the ruins. Their bodies had been twisted and distorted by the corrosion of the Corroded Zone, leaving them with grotesque appearances.

Yet despite their appearances, their instincts were simple.

Hunger.

That was almost all they knew.

Whenever they heard Grey’s approaching footsteps, the mutated creatures would immediately scramble out of their hiding places. Their eyes would turn bloodshot as intense killing intent emerged from within them.

To these creatures, everything that moved was potential food.

They would even kill one another for the chance to devour a stronger creature.

However, when they saw Grey advancing toward them without the slightest trace of fear, some of them hesitated.

The killing intent in their eyes flickered.

For the first time, their instincts were telling them that the creature standing before them was dangerous.

Unfortunately, hunger was deeply rooted within their bodies.

Some ignored the fear instinctively rising within their hearts and suddenly pounced toward Grey with their mouths wide open.

Grey did not even spare them a glance.

His hand casually lifted.

His fingers flicked.

Bang!

The head of the first mutated creature exploded instantly.

Blood and fragments of flesh splattered across the ruined ground.

Grey’s expression did not change in the slightest.

The other mutated creatures froze.

Then, as though enraged by the death of their companion, they descended into a frenzy.

Several creatures simultaneously pounced toward Grey from different directions, their claws tearing through the air as they attempted to rip him apart.

Grey merely flicked his fingers several more times.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

One after another, their heads exploded.

Their bodies crashed lifelessly onto the ground.

Throughout the entire ordeal, Grey’s expression remained calm.

There was no excitement.

No fear.

Not even the slightest hint of pity.

To him, these mutated creatures were simply too weak.

Even his former self in the Qi Accumulation Realm could have dealt with them if he attacked with everything he had and fought as ruthlessly as possible.

Now, after reaching his current level, these creatures could no longer pose the slightest threat to him.

Grey’s eyes narrowed into a cold glint as he continued speeding forward.

The commotion attracted even more mutated creatures from the surrounding ruins.

One after another, grotesque figures emerged from the shadows.

Some crawled out from beneath collapsed buildings. Others emerged from holes in the ground or squeezed through narrow cracks between broken walls.

Their eyes were filled with hunger.

Yet the moment they saw the corpses scattered around Grey, hesitation appeared in their eyes.

The calmness of the young man before them was completely different from the prey they were accustomed to hunting.

He did not run.

He did not tremble.

He did not even look at them.

He simply walked forward as though they did not exist.

For creatures that had always been the cause of fear in others, this was an unfamiliar sensation.

Fear.

It slowly overwhelmed the hunger in their stomachs.

One creature finally turned around and fled.

Then another.

Soon, several of them began running away at full speed.

The creatures that had once hunted others were now desperately fleeing from Grey.

A strange chill ran down their spines as they recalled the sight of their companions dying without even being able to scream.

Grey noticed their retreat.

His expression remained indifferent.

He could easily catch them.

With his current speed, these mutated creatures would not be able to escape him.

But he did not bother.

He continued advancing.

There was no reason to waste his strength on creatures that no longer posed a threat.

Still, a few of them were too frightened to flee properly.

Grey’s figure flashed.

In the next instant, he appeared directly before one of the fleeing creatures.

Bang!

The creature’s head expanded unnaturally before exploding into a cloud of blood mist.

It could not even release a blood-curdling cry.

The remaining creatures witnessed the scene and became even more terrified.

They desperately accelerated.

Their limbs scratched against the ruined ground as they fled for their lives.

For the first time in their existence, they understood what it meant to be prey.

Normally, they were the cause of others’ fear.

They were the hunters.

They were the monsters lurking in the darkness, waiting for unsuspecting creatures to pass by.

But this time, they were the ones running.

And the one chasing them was far more terrifying than they were.

Grey did not chase after the remaining creatures.

He simply watched them disappear into the ruins before turning his gaze forward.

Killing too many mutated creatures would only create unnecessary trouble.

The scent of blood was already spreading through the surrounding area.

If he continued slaughtering them, the smell would inevitably attract a much more dangerous mutated creature.

At that point, he might have no choice but to fight.

And there was no guarantee that he would be able to defeat whatever came without sustaining injuries.

The Corroded Zone was already dangerous enough.

Grey had no intention of becoming careless simply because the creatures he had encountered so far were weak.

His eyes swept across the ruined city.

The broken buildings stretched endlessly into the distance, their skeletal remains covered by strange vegetation and traces of corrosion.
