Void System: Every Heroine Makes Me Stronger

Chapter 11: Goddesses’ Request | M2 (18)

Maerith untied the linen around her waist while the Angel waited beyond the bedroom door.

No fresh blood marked the cloth.

The cut Varexia had opened across Maerith’s right flank had already sealed. A narrow pink line remained beneath the dried blood, fading even as Severin looked at it. Minutes earlier, whatever Eschara had left in the wound had still held the edges apart.

She looked down once. "The resistance is gone."

"Still painful?"

"No."

Severin pulled the binding from his left palm. The edges of the old cut had joined beneath it. The skin remained tender when he closed his hand, but nothing split. The reopened scrape across his shoulder had narrowed beneath its bandage. Heat gathered under the bandage, followed by the cold inward draw he had begun to recognize as the Void feeding stored power into damaged flesh.

It had not waited for him to ask. No message came.

His reinforced body had been closing the wounds since the arena. The Void supported what flesh and bone had not yet finished. His ribs no longer caught when he drew a full breath. The fatigue remained, but it no longer sat heavily enough behind his knees to threaten his balance.

Useful. Keep doing it.

Maerith’s gaze moved from his palm to his shoulder. "Your power is healing you."

"Along with the rest of me."

"Can you tell which is doing how much?"

"Not without asking questions that can wait."

The Angel remained silent outside.

Severin glanced at the ruined gown Maerith had started to reach for. "Leave that. We answer together, after we’re clean."

Maerith turned toward the door. "Tell them I will open the hall when we are ready."

"Yes, my Goddess."

Footsteps withdrew.

They used ordinary water. Maerith washed semen and sweat from between her thighs while Severin cleaned the last dried blood from her side. She wiped arena grit from his back and shoulder. No glow crossed her hands. No divine light erased the room’s smell of blood, sex, and damp linen.

By the time the basin clouded, the pink line on her flank had faded to the color of the surrounding skin.

Severin removed the shoulder binding. The scrape beneath it had closed. A dull tenderness remained when he rolled the joint, then eased before he finished drying.

His Trial shirt was beyond use. He pulled on the dirty trousers and boots, leaving his chest bare. The dragon tattoo spread from his left pectoral over the shoulder and down his arm. With no collar left to hide it, the black draconic mark on the left side of his neck remained visible.

Maerith chose a fresh undergarment and an ivory robe from her wardrobe. The robe crossed over her breasts and tied at the waist. She combed her fingers through her long golden hair, then left it loose down her back.

"Ready?" she asked.

Severin opened the bedroom door. "Open it."

They walked through the short inner passage together.

The private hall held no throne and offered no raised place from which one Goddess could look down on another. Pale stone formed an open floor with a long table against one wall and several chairs that did not match. One stood apart from the others.

Maerith closed the arch leading to the bedroom. Only then did she face the blank outer wall.

"You may enter."

The surface deepened without opening like a mortal door. Women crossed the change one after another and took form inside the hall with almost no interval between them. Severin could not tell from which direction any of them had come. The space behind each woman became pale stone again as soon as she cleared it.

Several stopped when they saw him beside Maerith.

Their attention touched his bare chest, the tattoos, the absence of a weapon, then returned to his face. He felt pressure in the room, but no clean measure and no shared shape. Each woman carried her stillness differently.

Maerith stood at Severin’s right. "This is Severin Morcant. My husband."

No one spoke for two breaths.

One Goddess looked from Maerith’s fresh robe to the closed bedroom arch, then chose not to comment.

Another did. "You married him while we waited."

"Yes," Maerith said.

"What changed in him?"

"Our union made him a Half-God. It did not make him one of us, and it did not give him my office."

A woman near the center asked, "Does Varexia live?"

"No," Severin said.

The word settled harder than the earlier silence.

Maerith inclined her head toward a woman whose calm did not soften when she looked at Severin. "The Goddess of Death."

"Did Varexia’s body and soul separate?" the woman asked.

"Not completely. She tried. My power held both until her body failed, then took them together."

"Where are they now?"

"Being digested."

Someone behind her shifted. "You speak of a Goddess as though she were meat."

"She tried to kill me, my wife, and every Angel behind us." Severin met the speaker’s eyes. "Call the result whatever makes that easier. It won’t change."

The Goddess of Death did not look away. "How long?"

"Roughly sixteen days."

"And during that time?"

"Nothing from her answers me. Nothing she carried is available."

Maerith added, "I witnessed the black mist remove Varexia’s body and the soul that was leaving it. No corpse remained. I cannot see what happens inside Severin’s power."

"Can she return from it?" another Goddess asked.

Severin considered the question rather than the fear beneath it. "She hasn’t moved. She hasn’t answered. I have no usable part of her. That is what I know."

The Goddess of Death folded her hands. "I cannot examine it. I will not call it an ordinary death or imprisonment. Her state fits neither."

Another Goddess turned to Severin. "What will you become when the process finishes?"

"I’ll know when it finishes."

"You know what she owned."

"I know what she used against us. I don’t have a list of everything inside her. Even if I did, it would not belong in this room."

The Goddess looked at Maerith. "He is in your area. Require an answer."

Maerith’s emerald eyes cooled. "He will answer for himself."

The woman opened her mouth, then closed it again. Her suspicion remained. The demand did not.

A Goddess near the long table shifted her weight. Her gaze had moved with each answer, catching who spoke and who looked away. Maerith identified her before she spoke.

"The Goddess of War."

"Rhazek Vhal," the Goddess said. "Demon King. He holds Azravax."

The name meant nothing to him yet. The way the room tightened around it did.

"What does Azravax do for him?" he asked.

"War connected to Rhazek can leave him stronger than it found him. So can calamity he causes, commands, or turns into part of his campaign. The connection must be real. Claiming an unrelated disaster gives him nothing."

"Strength in what form?"

"Body. Demon nature. Core Essence. Authority over calamity." Her mouth tightened. "We do not know the exact division or rate."

Good. An honest limit.

"How much territory answers to him?"

"Six Demon Lords serve him now. Others remain independent. We do not know every arrangement among them, and we do not know his present location."

"Then why bring me a target you cannot locate?"

"Because delay favors him even when we cannot count the gain. A long war feeds the problem."

Maerith spoke before another voice could add a second explanation. "Kharaxis, Velkrath, and Eschara were three of Varexia’s Primordial roots. Azravax was the fourth. She gave it to Rhazek before the Trial reached you."

The names returned with the arena. Stone breaking beneath Varexia. A route cut out of existence. Wounds refusing to close.

Azravax had not been inside her when the Void took her.

The Goddess of War stepped half a pace forward. "When Maerith’s lawful passage opens, descend. Find Rhazek. Kill him. Recover Azravax."

"Recover it for whom?"

The answer did not come as quickly.

One Goddess said, "For the empty place Varexia left."

Severin looked around the room. "Which of you believes she can give me that place?"

A woman near the end of the table answered before anyone else could claim more. Maerith named her with the same restraint.

"The Goddess of Order."

"None of us can appoint you," the Goddess of Order said. "We cannot transfer Varexia’s title, make her authority yours by declaration, or decide that the empty role will accept another existence. We do not know whether it can be occupied at all."

"Then what are you asking?"

"If Varexia’s remaining roots become available to you, and if Azravax can be taken from Rhazek, we ask you to pursue the possibility rather than leave Destruction divided between a dead Goddess and a Demon King."

"You don’t know whether my power will give me her roots."

"No."

"You don’t know whether four roots make a God of Destruction."

"No."

"And you cannot make the decision valid."

"Correct."

Severin almost smiled. Order, at least, knew how to answer the question asked.

He turned back to the Goddess of War. "What can you give me besides a name?"

"What we can verify," she said. "What we witness. What we learn of Rhazek’s wars, servants, and movements."

Another Goddess added, "Cooperation within our personal areas."

"No army below," Severin said.

"No."

"No loyalty from anyone I haven’t earned or taken."

The Goddess of Order answered. "No."

Maerith’s hand rested at her side, close enough to Severin that he could feel the warmth of her fingers without contact. "I will continue preparing your descent. I cannot yet give you the exact moment when the passage will hold."

Maerith still had to make the passage hold.

Beyond the missing location waited a Demon King who grew through war, six Demon Lords, a Primordial root Severin wanted, and territory worth taking.

Worth the distance.

"Rhazek is a target," Severin said. "Azravax is something I intend to take. I accept no command over how I move below, and I promise no title that may not exist. If the four roots and the empty place become real facts, I’ll decide what follows."

The Goddess of War studied him. "That is enough."

"You have his answer," Maerith said.

No one called for agreement.

Maerith crossed to a tall cabinet set into the inner wall. She opened it with her hand on the latch and drew out a long weapon wrapped in plain cloth.

"Your Trial sword is gone," she said.

"It broke doing its job."

"This is the strongest weapon I can presently place in your hands. I cannot promise it will survive every force you may eventually drive through it."

"Better."

She held it horizontally between them. "It is mine to give. I give it to you."

Severin took the wrapped weapon with both hands.

The cloth fell away from a pale-silver blade. It was long enough for his height without becoming oversized, straight and double-edged, with a shallow fuller running through the center. A restrained dark-silver crossguard separated the blade from a black wrapped grip. The pommel was compact, set with a small deep-green stone that recalled Maerith’s eyes without imitating them.

No light moved across the steel. No rune rose from it. The weapon simply held its weight.

Severin closed his right hand around the grip and placed the left beneath the pommel. His palm no longer hurt. He found the balance point, lifted the sword into a guarded line, and made one controlled cut into empty air.

The edge stopped where he intended, though the recovery exposed how much technique he still lacked. The blade did not correct him or teach his hands.

It fit him better than the Trial sword ever had.

One Goddess watched the green inset catch the room’s light. "Wisdom’s Gift."

"No," Severin said.

Her brows rose. "You reject a Goddess’s gift while holding it?"

"I accept the sword. I reject the name. Maerith is my wife, not a patron buying devotion."

He lowered the blade and looked at the pale edge.

"Wisdom’s Edge."

Maerith’s amusement appeared first in her eyes. "That will do."

The Goddess of Order focused on the sword. The Goddess of War did the same. Two others joined them. Their attention fixed on the sword with the same inward stillness Maerith had shown when she questioned the place where Severin arrived.

Nothing appeared to Severin.

The Goddess of Order spoke first. "It will not place the weapon in any known category."

"No grade?" Severin asked.

"No usable one."

The Goddess of War frowned. "It is a weapon. The System recognizes the question and refuses the measure."

"That sounds familiar," Severin said.

Maerith looked from him to the sword. "Not enough to claim the same cause."

"I didn’t."

The others left after that.

Maerith ended the invitation one woman at a time. Each Goddess crossed a permitted transition and vanished without leaving a road, border, or open gate behind. When the last was gone, the hall belonged to Maerith again.

Severin carried Wisdom’s Edge through the inner passage without a sheath. In the bedroom, he laid it on a low padded bench with the edge turned away from the room.

He did not put it into the Void.

Not yet.

Maerith closed the door behind them. "What did you think of their request?"

"Rhazek is worth killing. Azravax is worth taking. The title can wait until it becomes possible."

"And the part they did not say?"

"They’re afraid of what happens if I finish digesting Varexia and choose not to help them."

"They are."

"Good. Fear can keep them honest."

Maerith held his gaze until the bedroom door closed.

"Dressing table," Severin said. "Forearms down. Watch me in the mirror."

Maerith crossed the room.

The high table stood beneath a broad mirror. She placed both forearms on the polished surface and spread her feet when Severin touched the inside of one ankle with his boot.

Her ivory robe drew tight across her round hips.

Severin removed his boots, then pushed the dirty trousers down and stepped free of them. The old calf bandage had loosened enough to slide. He stripped it away. Smooth closed skin remained beneath it.

He moved behind Maerith and opened the robe at her waist.

The robe fell open over her shoulders. Her full breasts appeared in the mirror, heavy and pale against the ivory folds. The nipples tightened as cool air reached them. Severin drew the robe down her arms until it gathered at her elbows, leaving her upper body exposed without taking her forearms from the table.

Her green eyes stayed on his reflection.

"Higher," he said.

Maerith lifted her hips.

He gathered the lower panels above her hips. Her fresh undergarment covered her ass, already darkening between her thighs. Severin filled both hands with the soft, round weight of her cheeks and spread them until the thin fabric pulled tight against her pussy.

Maerith’s breath changed.

His thumb crossed the smooth skin where her right flank had been split. No wound remained beneath it.

"Hold the position."

"Yes."

He hooked his fingers under the undergarment and drew it down her thighs. A slick thread stretched from the cloth before it broke. Maerith stepped out of it when he tapped each ankle, then returned to the stance he had set.

Her pussy was already wet.

Severin slid 2 fingers between her folds. Heat and creamy slickness covered them at once. Maerith’s hips pressed back, chasing the touch before he gave her more.

"Ngh..."

His middle finger entered her. The tight passage took him without the hesitation of their first union. He added a second finger, curled both, and used his thumb on her clit.

Maerith’s head lowered.

"Watch the mirror."

She raised her head again.

Her eyes met his while he worked her open. Each curl drew a small roll through her hips. Her breasts swayed beneath her, full and bare, nipples hard enough to show in the mirror whenever her body moved.

"You remained composed in front of them," Severin said.

"It was my hall."

He pressed harder against her clit.

"Ah..."

"This is my room too."

"Yes, my husband."

He withdrew his fingers. Her pussy clenched around the loss.

Severin gripped his cock and dragged the swollen head through her wet folds. Maerith’s mouth parted in the mirror. Cream spread over the shaft with each slow pass.

"Ask for it," he said.

Her first answer was a measured breath.

He rubbed the head over her clit and stopped at her entrance.

"Severin. Put your cock inside me."

He pushed forward.

Her wet pussy opened around the head. Tight heat closed over him, then stretched as he drove deeper. Maerith’s fingers curled against the edge of the table. A low moan left her while he filled her inch by inch from behind.

"Nghnn..."

Severin caught her hips and buried the rest of his cock in one hard stroke.

CLAP!

Her ass flattened against his pelvis. The soft cheeks spread around him, rippled, then rounded again when he drew back. Maerith’s breasts swung beneath her and struck together once.

"Look at me in the glass."

Her gaze returned to his reflection.

Severin thrust again.

Wet skin struck wet skin. Her pussy gripped the shaft on the way out and swallowed him on the return. The angle drove him deep enough to pull a sharp cry from her.

"Ahhn... Severin."

He set the rhythm.

The dressing table gave a low wooden complaint beneath Maerith’s forearms. Her ass bounced against him with each thrust, plump flesh flattening under the impact and rolling back into his hands. Her breasts swayed below her chest, heavy enough that the movement continued between strokes.

Severin watched all of it in the mirror.

Mine.

He drove harder.

Maerith’s precise breaths broke into moans. "Ngh... ah..."

In the glass, her green gaze held his while he fucked her.

Severin slid one hand from her hip to her breast. He filled his palm with its soft weight and squeezed. The nipple pressed between his fingers while the other hand kept her ass where he wanted it.

Maerith’s mouth opened.

"They watched you stand beside me," Severin said.

"They saw what I chose."

He pinched her nipple and drove into her.

"Ahh!"

Severin caught her hair near the nape and lifted until her back arched. Her forearms stayed on the table. His cock moved through her slick walls with a louder wet clap, cream gathering at the base and along the inside of her thighs.

He slowed without stopping, giving her only shallow strokes.

Maerith pushed back for more.

"Do not reduce the pace," she said, each word roughened by breath.

"You can take more."

"Yes." Her eyes held his in the glass. "Use it."

Severin buried himself to the base.

"Nghnn!"

The impact sent a wave through her ass. Her breasts bounced hard, the full pale curves rising and falling in the mirror. He kept the next strokes fast and deep, taking the measured cadence out of her breathing.

"Severin... ah... do not slow down."

He did not.

He hammered the next stroke through her. The dressing table scraped a finger’s width across the floor, and Maerith’s moans rose with every wet impact.

"Ahhn... ngh... Severin..."

Her pussy grew tighter. The slick walls pulsed around him. Her thighs trembled. One forearm slid across the polished wood, then caught again.

Severin moved his hand from her breast to her clit and rubbed the swollen nub in time with his thrusts.

Her next breath broke into a cry as her back arched. The sound struck the mirror and came back thinner. Her pussy clenched around Severin in hard waves, squeezing his cock while her ass pressed helplessly back into every stroke.

"Severin!"

He held her upright through the contractions and kept fucking her until the first violent trembling softened into smaller pulses.

Then he gripped both hips and drove in as deep as her body would take him.

His cock throbbed.

Hot cum spilled inside her in thick bursts. Maerith gasped at the first pulse. Her pussy clenched again around each release, drawing more from him while he stayed buried against her ass.

"Ngh... my husband..."

Severin remained inside her until the last pulse passed.

The room quieted to their breathing and the soft creak of wood settling beneath Maerith’s weight.

He eased out after the last pulse. Her slick walls dragged along the shaft and held the swollen head for a moment before releasing it. White semen followed, running between her flushed lips and down the inside of one thigh.

Severin steadied her by the waist while her legs recovered. He took a clean cloth from the dressing table, wiped the worst of the fluid from her thighs, then cleaned himself.

Maerith turned only after he released her. The robe still hung around her elbows. Severin drew it up over her shoulders and closed it loosely over her breasts.

No notification came.

Her hair had fallen across one side of her face. She pushed it back with a hand that had begun to steady.

"You were quieter in the hall," Severin said.

"The hall did not require the same response."

"Good answer."

He pulled on his trousers. His boots remained beside the table. Maerith’s undergarment and the used cloth stayed on the floor for later cleaning.

Wisdom’s Edge waited on the padded bench.

Maerith crossed to it, robe still loose at the throat. She held one hand above the pale blade without touching it and focused on a narrower question than the others had asked.

The room did not change.

After several breaths, she lowered her hand.

"Nothing?" Severin asked.

"The System recognizes the sword as an object and recognizes what I asked. It gives me no usable maximum."

Severin looked at the pale-silver edge. "Then how much Core Essence can it carry?"

Maerith met his eyes.

"I cannot tell you how much Core Essence the blade can carry before it fails."
