Chapter 465: Chapter 465: A Chance
The Cloud Sect, the most powerful sect in Yunzhou.
In the main hall of the Cloud Sect.
The face of Fu Dongliu, the Cloud Sect Leader, was as dark as it could possibly be. To think someone would actually dare to harm his son in Yun City.
His son had been crippled, his condition unknown, and two Venerables had been lost in the process.
"Have you found anything?"
A Cloud Sect disciple shivered, not daring to hesitate for even a second. "Reporting to the Sect Leader," he said immediately, "we haven’t identified them yet, but we can confirm it’s a man and a woman."
"What exactly happened?"
"Sect Leader," the disciple began, and then recounted everything that had happened, down to the last detail.
After hearing the story, Fu Dongliu’s expression darkened even further. Inwardly, however, he let out a deep sigh. As his father, how could he not know what kind of person his son was?
Fu Shaohai might be an incorrigible degenerate, but with the Cloud Sect backing him, who in all of Yun City would dare to provoke him?
Forget Yun City—even in the whole of Yunzhou, there were few who dared to cross the Cloud Sect.
’Courting death.’
Fu Dongliu was furious, a volcano on the verge of eruption, but his reason suppressed the impulse.
Fu Dongliu was no fool. He knew that anyone who would cripple his son and kill two Cloud Sect Venerables in broad daylight must be acting with absolute confidence. ’What if they have powerful backing?’ he thought. ’What do I do then?’
"Go. Find out who this person is."
"Yes, Sect Leader."
A short while later, the Cloud Sect’s Alchemist emerged from the inner room, his face a mask of helplessness and distress.
Seeing the Alchemist’s expression, Fu Dongliu’s heart sank. "Brother Gu," he asked urgently, "how is Shaohai?"
"Sect Leader, I’ve done everything I can. Even if the Young Sect Leader recovers, he’ll be a cripple for the rest of his life. There’s no hope for a full recovery."
Fu Dongliu nearly collapsed. He waved his hand, dismissing everyone until he was alone in the vast hall. Staring into the cold, empty space, he seemed to age decades in an instant, his entire being looking gaunt and haggard.
He only had one son. Now that son was a cripple, and the Fu Family’s line was effectively ended. For him, this was a hundred times more agonizing than death itself.
"I don’t care who you are," he vowed. "You’ve ended my Fu Family’s line. I will make you pay."
In a rather luxurious-looking tavern in Yun City.
Ao Xue said with a sigh of resignation, "I was in such a good mood, and then that scoundrel had to ruin it. It’s so infuriating."
Long Ao just smiled. "Why let him bother you? After we eat, I’ll take you on a proper tour of Yun City. I hear it has a lot of famous historical sites."
"You just killed two Venerables and crippled the Cloud Sect’s Young Sect Leader. If the Cloud Sect comes after us, won’t we be in a lot of trouble?"
Although she knew the Dragon Sect was now the overlord of Kyushu, Ao Xue was also well aware that its foundation wasn’t yet stable. Causing trouble at a time like this was hardly a wise move, and all of it had been for her sake.
How could Long Ao not know what was on Ao Xue’s mind?
"No one is allowed to bully you. Not even the Celestial King himself."
’I’ll kill anyone who stands in my way, be they man or god.’
Ao Xue was deeply moved and didn’t say anything more. Just then, however, they finally noticed that something was off. The entire tavern was empty except for the two of them.
"They’re here."
Long Ao nodded. He knew, of course, what was happening. He had some understanding of the Cloud Sect, Yunzhou’s number one super-faction.
The Dragon Sect was now considered the overlord of Kyushu. To consolidate its position, the plan had been to win over Yunzhou’s Cloud Sect. But given the current situation, Long Ao knew that was not only impossible, but war might even break out.
He wasn’t afraid of the Cloud Sect, but unless it was absolutely necessary, Long Ao didn’t want to fight them to the death. His greatest enemies right now were the Four Great Forces, not the so-called Cloud Sect.
"Since you’re here, you might as well come in. There’s no need for this."
As soon as Long Ao finished speaking, Fu Dongliu walked in with two old men. These two were Elders of the Cloud Sect, both of them Great Venerable Martial Artists, considered the most powerful existences in Yun City.
Fu Dongliu was no fool. He knew that someone who could instantly kill a Venerable was no simple character. If he wasn’t mistaken, his opponent was likely a Celestial Venerable, or perhaps even a Great Venerable. He was reluctant to admit it, but the facts were staring him in the face.
"Who are you?"
"Who I am isn’t important. What’s important is what you plan to do now that you’re here."
’Arrogant.’
Fu Dongliu had never imagined that this person would be so arrogant upon seeing him, acting as if he didn’t even exist. ’Is his confidence really that well-founded?’
Even now, the Cloud Sect hadn’t managed to uncover Long Ao’s identity. Thus, Fu Dongliu had no idea that the young man sitting before him was none other than the famous Dragon Sect Master, Long Ao.
"You really are arrogant."
Fu Dongliu and his two companions sat down at another table, staring intently at Long Ao as if trying to see through him and understand the source of his arrogance. After all, this was Yun City, the Cloud Sect’s home turf.
In all of Kyushu, the Cloud Sect’s power definitely ranked in the top three. This was precisely why Fu Dongliu couldn’t figure it out. What was this person’s background that he dared to disregard the Cloud Sect so completely? Could he be a disciple from a sect in another province?
"You crippled my son and killed two of my Venerable Dharma Protectors. I’d like to know how you plan to settle this account with me."
The calmer Long Ao appeared, the more Fu Dongliu hesitated to act rashly. He still hadn’t figured out his opponent’s identity. If the man’s backer was truly formidable, wouldn’t attacking him be asking for disaster?
Long Ao knew exactly what Fu Dongliu was thinking.
He paid the three of them no mind. To him, one Celestial Venerable and two Great Venerables were practically no different from ordinary people. If he wished, killing them would be a matter of moments.
But as he’d already decided, unless it was absolutely necessary, Long Ao didn’t want a life-or-death struggle with the Cloud Sect. It would only give the Four Great Forces an opportunity to exploit.
"Your son was shameless; he has no one to blame but himself. The Cloud Sect is the number one power in Yunzhou, yet you, Fu Dongliu, as its Sect Leader, indulge your son’s depravity. A sect like that will only regress, never advance."
"Hahaha! Boy, you dare to pass judgment on my Cloud Sect? What our sect is like is none of your business! Who do you think you are? Don’t think you can act so wantonly here just because you killed two of my Dharma Protectors. I can tell you that in the eyes of my Cloud Sect, you—"
Waving his hand and cutting Fu Dongliu off, Long Ao said mockingly, "I originally didn’t want to fight the Cloud Sect to the death. I was going to give you a chance. But your Cloud Sect is just hopelessly stubborn."
