Chapter 1232 - 531: Battle of the Richard Plains (Part 3)Chapter 1232: Chapter 531: Battle of the Richard Plains (Part 3)
Yet contrary to Mathew Bade’s expectations, these refugees did not collapse at once. On the contrary, someone among them immediately began shouting orders, and large groups of refugees quickly split to both sides in an orderly fashion under the lead of a few Ranger Knights and soldiers. Though the scene was quite chaotic, the refugees still generally withdrew toward the two corners in some semblance of order: "What?! Impossible!"
Standing in the Brittania Central Army, Lorne revealed a smile.
This was the result of several days of intensive drills by him and the Knights; they had taught the refugees how to retreat.
After the refugees pulled back in relatively orderly fashion, the Undead Monsters, lured by this fresh, delicious meat, immediately lost control. Screeching and roaring, they charged toward the refugees on both flanks. While slaughtering large numbers of refugees who failed to escape in time and savoring the tasty flesh, these Undead Giant Beasts completely forgot Mathew Bade’s order to strike straight at the Brittania Central Army. Fighting on their own, they rampaged everywhere; these mindless creatures even lost basic cohesion as they fought over the meat.
And waiting for these Undead Monsters at that moment was the elite Mercenary Corps from Nuer; the Undead Monsters had already entered their firing range.
"Open fire!!!" Deputy General of the Mercenary Corps, Boris von Rukov, shouted the order. Three Musket Battalions, more than twenty Cannons and Hellstorm Rocket Cannons opened up together. A dense rain-like musket barrage and a sky full of artillery fire engulfed the Undead Monsters in the blink of an eye!
The Fireworks Academy Mercenary Corps from Nuer had long since calculated the optimal range under the Engineers’ measurements. The artillery pieces under their control sniped the Undead Giant Beasts with uncanny precision, as if they had grown eyes. Bloodthirsty Bat Wolves and Tomb Evil Ghosts fell one after another, and the Bloodthirsty Celestial Ghosts did not even dare approach the ground under the dense barrage.
The Undead Monsters were quickly forced to the brink of rout, and Mathew Bade had no choice but to immediately order the Zombie Legion, Skeleton Warrior Legion, and Desolate Tomb Guard Legion to follow up.
"Activate the Hellstorm Rapid-Fire Cannon!" Seeing the great masses of Undead Infantry gradually draw near, Imperial General Dietrich immediately gave the order.
"Activate the Hellstorm Rapid-Fire Cannon!!!" The elites of Nuer at once pushed out a powerful War Machine from their positions. This War Machine spun as it spewed a massive tongue of flame that lashed everything before it. Each barrel held at least a dozen, if not more, small shells, and now they were all unleashed.
The nine barrels of the Hellstorm Rapid-Fire Cannon were divided into three groups, controlled in turn by a central rotating crank. Any unlucky target it locked onto would be subjected to uninterrupted, terrifying fire and swallowed by a hailstorm of leaden bullets.
In an instant, the entire Undead vanguard was torn to pieces, flesh and bone flying; hundreds of Undead were turned into sieves in a single volley.
The advance of the Undead Army was checked by the sheer power of Nuer’s War Machines, yet they still pressed forward in succession until they neared the Alliance Army’s battle line. At a joint command from Lorne and Dietrich, Brittania’s Peasant Infantry Corps and the Empire’s Long Halberd Legion entered the fray.
At this point there was no more strategy; the entire battlefield had become a slaughterhouse of flesh and blood. The Imperial Army, the Brittania soldiers, and the Peasant Infantry Corps stood shoulder to shoulder, resisting the assault of the Undead Army.
The battle raged from morning into the afternoon, and the Alliance Army gradually grew exhausted. The Empire’s Long Halberdiers and Brittania’s Peasant Infantry Corps were slowly driven back step by step under the onslaught of the Undead tide.
However, as Mathew Bade continued to command the Undead Army’s attack, he subconsciously sensed that something was wrong. He immediately ordered a full retreat, and the Undead Army withdrew from the battlefield in an orderly fashion under his command.
When Lorne led the Knights on the flank and smashed the Black Knight Legion that was attempting a flanking encirclement of the Undead rear, what awaited him were soldiers cheering their victory on the plains near Richard Castle; the Undead Army had already slipped out of the Brittania people’s encirclement.
"This battle! It’s ours!" Although it was a pity they had failed to complete the encirclement and utterly destroy Musillon’s Undead Army, the Knights from the North still felt proud of this victory.
Cheers rose endlessly across the plains, singing of Lorne’s triumph.
This was the perfect embodiment of Kingdom Regent Lorne-Rio Cornwall’s outstanding military talent and superb command.
With this victory, Lorne proved that he was fully qualified and capable of competing for the Knight’s Throne with the Lake Fairy’s Divine Chosen Champion, Laine Macado.
Meanwhile, ten kilometers away, Mathew Bade, who was slowly withdrawing, also showed a smile.
"I’ll let you have this small victory first, Lorne."
"But this isn’t over. I know how to defeat you."
The Viper of Musillon took out a letter, sealed with the Ring Seal of Duke Theodoric of Borelion.
"Go. Send a living man to deliver this letter into the Brittania camp."
"The means to defeat the Brittania people is written inside this letter."
