Wasteland: I Awakened A Plant System
Chapter 384: Legendary Zombie Attack 4At the rear of the team, the Legendary-level Zombie, finally free, arrived above Lilith and the other two in the blink of an eye.
A butcher knife, almost half the length of the Zombie’s body, descended toward the three as the Zombie swung it down with all its strength.
A second earlier, they had still been discussing the ownership of the Zombie’s corpse, and none of the three had time to react to the sudden attack.
At the critical moment, Vikram moved!
His figure, like a ghost, weaved through the crowd, and in an instant, he pulled Lilith out of the attack’s range.
Still shaken, Lilith cast a grateful look at Vikram, but the other two were not so lucky.
Jade was fine; this old fox had quite a few trump cards up his sleeve.
He actually pulled out a high-quality metal shield. After blocking the blow, he spat out a mouthful of blood and escaped the attack range.
Only Abhi, with nothing but an Epic-level longsword in his hand, could not withstand such a terrifying sneak attack.
As the Epic-level weapon collided with the Legendary Zombie’s massive butcher knife, Abhi’s grip instantly gave way, tearing the flesh between his thumb and index finger.
His weapon flew high into the air, while the butcher knife continued its descent, ultimately severing Abhi’s entire left arm, which was already missing a hand.
"Ahhh!!!"
A horrific scream echoed throughout the enclosed space, and many of the Survivors who were still alive watched the scene, not with fear, but with schadenfreude.
"Serves him right, that madman! You tricked us, just go die already."
As Abhi endured the excruciating pain, he was filled with frustration and resentment.
Originally, this venture into Legendary-level territory had been a gamble for a chance to restore his missing hand.
Instead, not only was his hand not restored, but his entire arm was severed. He could only swallow the bitterness himself.
[Super Zombie: Butcher, Grade: Gold, Strength: 122, Speed: 112, Stamina: 116, Reaction: 115.]
[Special Ability 1: Summon Corpses, can summon all weaker Zombies nearby to fight alongside it. Special Ability 2: Killing Intent Release, releases overwhelming killing intent capable of driving people mad.]
[Butcher Knife: Gold, the Butcher’s exclusive weapon. Besides its incredible sharpness, any attack that cuts through flesh will inevitably trigger a dismemberment effect.]
Vikram looked at the other Legendary-level Zombie without much surprise in his eyes.
These two Legendary-level Zombies were not very different; the distinction was that one butchered fish, while the other butchered pork.
"It’s just... this weapon."
This was the first Legendary-level melee weapon Vikram had encountered.
Compared to the fish-slaughtering knife’s bleeding ability, this guaranteed dismemberment effect made Vikram incredibly envious.
While this ability was meaningless against small fry, since dismembering them didn’t require a Legendary-level weapon, if it were used against other Legendary-level beings, wouldn’t it mean that as long as the opponent was injured, a leg or arm could be directly severed?
Vikram looked at the not-so-good-looking weapon, and his heart was genuinely moved.
"No wonder it cut off Abhi’s arm so easily."
Coming back to his senses, during the brief moment Vikram was lost in thought, the three individuals and the Zombie had already begun fighting again.
Unlike the first Legendary-level Zombie, this Legendary-level Zombie, due to the enhancement provided by its weapon, and with all of Abhi’s people already dead, faced no threat from firearms.
The Survivors, who had originally served as cannon fodder, scattered and fled.
In a direct confrontation, despite it being three against one, Lilith’s side was steadily being pushed back.
If Jade hadn’t come fully prepared, they wouldn’t have lasted this long.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk. As expected, those who run the Market are indeed formidable."
Looking at Jade, who seemed to have an endless supply of high-quality items, Vikram felt a pang of envy.
It wasn’t the weapons he envied, but the vast resources Jade controlled. Vikram even entertained the thought of robbing him.
"Or perhaps... deal with Jade later and let Lilith take over the White Fox Shelter Market?"
Just as Vikram was pondering how to trick Jade out of his resources, two figures suddenly emerged from a corner of the retail area.
Observing from the shadows, Vikram secretly smiled.
"Finally, they couldn’t hold back. Let me see which faction you belong to."
The two either didn’t act at all, or struck with deadly intent.
Two cold, gleaming weapons left deep wounds on the Zombie’s left and right arms respectively.
As the Zombie’s swinging movements were greatly restricted, Lilith and the other two also revealed expressions of joy.
Even without knowing who had sent these two helpers, with the five of them working together, the Zombie soon had one arm and one leg severed.
However, before they could truly show their triumphant smiles, the two Survivors who had suddenly appeared turned on them.
While the three were still focused on dealing with the immediate threat, the two unexpectedly attacked all three of them simultaneously.
"What!"
The first to suffer was Jade, who had been in the best condition so far and possessed the most trump cards.
In an instant, a dazzling flash of saber light flickered and vanished.
What surprised everyone was that Jade, who had always kept some of his strength in reserve, couldn’t even block a single blow. The hand holding the shield was directly pierced by the blade.
Gushing blood fell to the ground along with the shield.
Jade’s face immediately turned ashen.
"What are you doing? Don’t lash out recklessly. These people’s bodies are valuable, you know? If you damage them, you’ll be the one replacing them, understand?"
Unexpectedly, before anyone could question them, the two on the opposite side started arguing among themselves.
"I know. It’s just one hole. I’ve been very careful, so stop yelling."
As soon as the words fell, the two immediately put away their weapons.
The Zombie behind them, with one arm and one leg severed, no longer posed a threat and was completely ignored by them.
They approached Lilith and the other two empty-handed.
Yet, even so, facing the three armed individuals, the two showed no sign of being at a disadvantage.
No matter how the three swung their weapons, they failed to inflict even the slightest injury on the two.
In contrast, on Abhi and Jade’s side, in the blink of an eye, one was kicked away like a dead dog, while the other was already knocked unconscious.
Only Lilith was left struggling to hold on.
Filled with confusion, she angrily demanded, "Who exactly are you people?"
There was no response. What greeted Lilith were only two merciless fists.
Even before they reached her, the force generated by the punches stung her cheeks.
Realizing that her journey as a Survivor in the Wasteland might be ending prematurely, Lilith closed her eyes in resignation.
"Bang!"
A dull, bone-rattling thud echoed through the ears of everyone present.
Lilith’s eyes twitched, and she slowly opened them.
To her astonishment, she was completely unharmed, and at the same time, a casual, teasing voice sounded beside her.
"You two, waiting this long to make your move... quite patient, aren’t you?"
Lilith slowly shifted her gaze forward.
The two unknown Survivors, whose strength was exceptionally powerful, were still standing only a short distance in front of her.
Even the motion of clenching their fists to punch her in the face was still frozen.
It wasn’t that the two of them were deliberately holding this pose; rather, the wrists of the hands they had used to throw their punches were tightly gripped by another hand, making them completely unable to move.
"Big Boss Vikram!" Lilith’s eyes flickered with surprise and joy.
Knowing that she had been saved once again, she no longer had any doubts about Vikram’s strength.
While feeling relieved, she looked at Vikram, who had saved her several times, with deep gratitude, and began thinking about how to repay this favor.
With a slight blush, Lilith shook the jumbled thoughts from her mind and quickly distanced herself from the two people in front of her.
She was a smart woman and knew her own strength was insufficient, so she wisely retreated at the first opportunity.
At the same time, she didn’t forget to use the grenades taken from the unconscious Jade to deal with the Legendary Zombie, which only had one arm and one leg remaining.
This was to prevent the not-yet-dead Legendary Zombie from causing any more trouble.
At this moment, the two Survivors caught by Vikram were even more panicked than Lilith.
Initially, they were only slightly surprised by Vikram’s speed; being able to arrive so quickly was indeed unusual.
It wasn’t until they truly clashed with him that the two mysterious Survivors realized something was wrong.
Before following their orders to track the three Shelters to this resource point, they had already raised their physiques to 90 points.
Logically, with such strength, they should have held absolute dominance at the edge of the Wasteland.
But the man standing before them, with his indifferent expression, had managed to restrain both of them simultaneously all by himself.
The two exchanged glances, and their other free hands quickly grabbed their weapons, slashing toward Vikram’s arms.
Before their weapons could even make contact, their arms, which had been firmly clamped by Vikram, were released.
Two ghastly red handprints were left on the skin beneath their sleeves.
The two exchanged glances again, seemingly debating whether to continue fighting or flee.
However, before they could finish their silent discussion, Vikram spoke again.
"You two don’t need to exchange glances anymore. Today, whether you want to fight or not, you will fight. I don’t intend to let either of you leave."
Although Vikram didn’t know their specific identities, their physiques of 90 points were clearly revealed to him through the System’s analysis.
"Most likely, they’re people from the Wasteland Central Area again."
As Vikram thought about this, a new question arose in his mind.
’Since people from the Central Area looked down on the Wasteland Edge so much, why bother sending people here?’
’Could it be that they were after the Survivors’ bodies in the Wasteland Edge?’
Suppressing the questions in his heart, the two opponents acted with extreme decisiveness.
Upon hearing Vikram’s domineering words just now, they no longer hesitated and immediately attacked together.
"Whoosh!"
Despite running only on the ground, their speed had already reached an incredible level.
Compared to how they had dealt with Lilith and her companions, it seemed that, because Vikram was not their mission target, the two had no intention of holding back.
Every punch and every blade strike was aimed at Vikram’s vital points.
Strangely, despite being able to restrain both of them by himself just a moment ago, Vikram was now instantly at a disadvantage in the confrontation.
Lilith watched from the side, completely bewildered.
One moment, he had seemed completely at ease. The next, why was he struggling like this?
Just as Lilith hesitated over whether to step forward and share the pressure, she was stopped by a glance from Vikram.
Of course, it wasn’t that Vikram couldn’t defeat the two; rather, he was fishing for a bigger catch.
The two opponents, however, knew nothing of this. Seeing that Vikram appeared to be nothing special, their eyes lit up.
Their offensive became even more ferocious, raining down like a violent storm.
On the other side, the fewer than one hundred Survivors who remained were still inside the retail area.
Having escaped immediate danger, they did not leave.
Besides being reluctant to abandon the supplies, more importantly, they couldn’t leave.
All the exits had been blocked by huge boulders moved by the Legendary Zombie, leaving them willing but unable to escape.
Since they couldn’t do anything else, they decided to do what they did best.
One by one, they began frantically looting the retail area.
Little did they know that, if they had worked together and spent some time clearing the boulders blocking the exits, they actually would have had a chance to escape.
By the time each Survivor’s backpack was full, however, it was already too late to leave.
