Weakest Beast Tamer Gets All SSS Dragons
Chapter 1141 - Taming the Wall - TestChapter 1141: Chapter 1141 - Taming the Wall - Test
In Roran’s sector, the tense, unnatural standoff finally broke...
The first beast moved.
One of the three Gold-tier mutants, specifically, the Gold 1 monstrosity broke rank in an instant. It launched itself directly at the autonomous tower anchoring the sector, charging ahead of its two companions in a deliberate, probing assault.
The tower did not hesitate. It responded with automated immediacy.
Massive, iron-hard roots exploded outward from the blood-soaked earth. They shot forward like hydraulic spears, violently coiling around the charging beast. The wooden tendrils snapped taut, instantly and completely neutralizing the creature’s momentum.
The tower aggressively pinned the monster to the dirt, flawlessly controlling its struggling mass despite the glaring, undeniable fact that, in terms of pure mana-biological rank, a Gold-tier beast should have effortlessly crushed a Silver-tier construct.
Standing a safe distance away on the parapet, Ren observed the violent collision. He kept his expression perfectly neutral, burying his intense, analytical curiosity behind a mask of cold indifference.
Selthia wasn’t the only one fascinated by the exact mechanical limits of the towers for sure.
The wooden monoliths currently guarding the wastelands weren’t physically durable because of the raw materials they were built from. And they certainly weren’t capped at the Silver rank out of something like aesthetic sense, or because of any mana incapacity on Ren’s part.
If he truly wanted to, Ren could have constructed every single one of these towers out of hyper-dense, Platinum-tier materials. He possessed the crystal-molding techniques required to do it now. He had the architectural blueprints to carve the necessary micro-runes. He had the raw capability to erect a sprawling network of defensive monoliths that would rival the absolute greatest, most legendary fortresses of the inner city.
But practically speaking, doing so would have been an absurd, logistical nightmare. Platinum-tier materials didn’t just grow on trees, well, technically some of them did, but that entirely misses the tactical point...
Even though Ren could personally harvest high-tier materials, or even synthetically forge them in the vault, manufacturing them in the astronomical quantities required to physically cover the entire perimeter of the sister cities would have consumed lifetimes he simply did not have.
Even if he compromised and built them at the Gold rank, which was vastly more abundant than Platinum in the city vaults and market now and structurally denser than Silver, it would have demanded an insane investment of crystals, time and energy to produce the sheer volume of towers the Great Wall desperately required.
But none of those logistical headaches were the actual, foundational reason the towers were restricted to the Silver tier.
Selthia may have wanted to believe he had chosen Silver simply to match the baseline rank of the mutant swarms... But she would be completely wrong.
The real reason was the fuel.
It was the ambient mana.
The towers were specifically engineered to passively feed on the atmospheric ether. And the ambient mana environment surrounding the world’s last bastion in the Plains was excruciatingly, pathetically poor. The air here was so mana thin that, under normal conditions, the ambient ether could barely sustain a crude, Iron-rank magical construct.
The fact that Ren had managed to engineer Silver-tier towers capable of operating entirely autonomously, without a human operator forcefully pumping mana into their cores, surviving solely by siphoning the starving atmosphere, was an architectural miracle that absolutely no other magical engineer in history could have replicated.
And the tricks he utilized to achieve that miracle were nothing short of genius.
First: absolute patience.
The towers remained perfectly static at all times. They only actively drew heavy power and engaged their combat routines during a direct assault. Every single second of peaceful calm, every passing hour where nothing triggered their aggro radius, was time spent silently accumulating and hoarding ambient ether.
They charged themselves in the dark, tightening their internal magical reservoirs like a massive, coiled spring. When they finally struck, they unleashed big chunks of that hoarded energy all at once.
Second: function focus.
Ren had carved a highly complex network of conductive runes into the wood that forcefully directed the vast majority of that accumulated mana density directly to the absolute tips of the roots at the exact millisecond of impact.
By concentrating all that mana and magical torque into a small surface area, he generated an armor-piercing penetration power that vastly eclipsed what a Silver-tier weapon should mathematically be capable of.
Maybe his spear making helped device it too... The wooden tips effortlessly punched through the dense, mutated armor of higher-ranked beasts because the absolute totality of the tower’s kinetic force was hyper-focused into those tiny points, exactly like a sharpened steel spearhead piercing plate mail.
Third: mechanical kinetic tension.
The physical strength of the roots themselves didn’t rely solely on mana push. Ren had engineered a complex, spiraling internal structure hidden deep beneath in the center of the stone core of the tower. It was a massive, physical coil.
That dense wooden spring stored immense mechanical tension alongside the magical energy. When the roots were finally triggered to fire, they didn’t just push forward with mana; they violently snapped out, combining the magical penetration of the glowing tips with the raw, brutal, physical torque of a massive bio-catapult violently releasing its payload.
By seamlessly weaving these three architectural tricks together, Ren flawlessly masked the inherent weakness of the Silver-tier materials and the crippling scarcity of ambient mana.
For now it has worked.
But in the inevitable future, those foundational limitations would expose themselves. Against the stronger enemies Selthia was making, or against highly refined siege strategies, the underlying architectural ceiling would eventually crack through the surface. That was exactly why humanity had to understand and improve this defensive advantage right now.
Since a highly intelligent, incredibly dangerous someone was actively discovering that limit right this very second, just miles away on the other side of the Wall.
Ren’s eyes narrowed as the tactical situation on the field shifted. The second mutant, Gold 2, finally broke its holding pattern, rushing forward to assist the first Gold 1 beast that had been violently impaled and pinned to the dirt.
