Chapter 416 234: The Auction

'So this is what a world of wealth and power looks like,' Baron grumbled internally. 'It feels completely different from the team-building exercises in my past life.'

Suddenly, an announcement like "Welcoming the House of Beowulf" came from the entrance. Everyone turned to look again, their breath catching in their throats.

A girl who was both noble and elegant, yet possessed a sharp, commanding air, appeared at the entrance. Her skin was snow-white, her eyes long and almond-shaped beneath gracefully arched brows. She had a high-bridged nose, and her thin, rosy lips looked as if they were painted with cinnabar.

She wore a pale violet outfit, and her deep purple hair was combed into neat strands that fell to her waist, bound by Gold and Silver Rings. The rings chimed with her general-like stride, reminiscent of the war drums beating in unison before a desperate battle between two armies.

Her long, powerful legs were visible beneath the hem of her dress. She wore a pair of fine, deep-purple high heels, yet she walked with a vigorous stride, so much so that even the few household servants of the Beowulf Family following her struggled to keep up.

No one dared to meet her gaze wherever it fell, as if she were a general inspecting her troops on the battlefield.

Isabella Beowulf stopped before Freya. Her icy gaze swept over Freya and the disguised Baron beside her, not lingering on him for even a moment. After a brief, cool greeting to the other ladies present, she led her large retinue into the main auction hall.

As the buxom Lucy, whose chest rippled as she walked, followed behind, she made a silly face at the gawking men in the hall.

Freya was left behind, her expression unreadable as she watched Isabella's alluring, retreating figure. After a long moment, she shot a cold snort at Baron, then turned and strode into the auction hall on her long legs without looking back.

Once they were all gone, the previously silent hall instantly erupted in a buzz of conversation.

"Beowulf's Elder Daughter and the Legitimate Daughter of the Lancelot Clan are enemies? Why is that?"

"You're behind the times. I have a contact who attended the ceremony at the Beowulf Family estate during the Dragon Hunting Ceremony and witnessed the whole thing... I hear it's a love triangle."

"A love triangle? Is it because of Young Master Jill of the Hestia Family? Miss Lancelot is engaged to him... And while Young Master Jill is certainly outstanding, isn't Beowulf's Elder Daughter rumored to have very high standards? A little birdie told me the Hestia Family once proposed a marriage alliance with the Beowulf Family, but they were rejected... That doesn't add up."

"That's because your information isn't accurate enough. My source says that Beowulf's Elder Daughter and the Dragon Knight who's been causing a stir on the Inner Side recently were childhood sweethearts..."

While the crowd outside was still engrossed in gossiping about the two women, Baron had already followed Freya into the main auction hall.

The number of people in the main hall was much smaller than in the outer lobby. Although quite a few still approached Freya to curry favor, most kept it brief. They seemed to understand that saying too much was pointless, and that it was better just to make their faces known. Besides, among those seeking Freya out were not just sycophants, but also other important figures.

For instance, there were members of the Hestia Clan led by Freya's fiancé, Jill; some branch lineages of the Lancelot Family, such as Freya's cousin, the Black Iron Lion Knight Aile; and a host of other organizations and families on good terms with the Lancelot Clan.

"Freya." Aile gave Freya a knightly salute. After a simple greeting, he stepped aside to make way for Jill and his group.

Jill, rushing forward, hastily performed a knightly salute as well, much to the amusement of the surrounding ladies, who couldn't help but giggle.

Who would have thought that the prospective commander of the Griffin Knight Order, the renowned Griffin Knight Jill, had such an earnest side to him.

Jill's sister, the beautiful matron Barbara, covered her mouth and chuckled. "Miss Freya, you're even more beautiful than when I last saw you at the engagement... No wonder Jill kept muttering in his seat about why he hadn't seen Miss Lancelot yet."

Jill said, "I was just concerned. After all, according to our agreement, Freya was supposed to arrive with me in the same Griffin Carriage... but I never received the notification... and I've also lost contact with Elder Sanning. Freya, if I recall correctly, it was Elder Sanning who went to Lancelot's Family to invite you, wasn't it? Where is he?"

He then began looking around for him.

Freya's heart suddenly grew heavy.

'According to the information Baron leaked, Jill doesn't seem to know about the Hestia Family's collusion with the Dragon Eater Association. So naturally, he wouldn't know that the so-called Elder Sanning is the head of the Dragon Eater Association's Blood Department. The main reason he brought her—Fla—to the Monastery was for the Red Dragon Aura that only flows within the Direct Lineage of the Lancelot Clan...'

'In theory, Jill is uninvolved... But the ones who killed my brother, Anthony, were very likely members of the Dragon Eater Association, and the Dragon Eater Association is colluding with the Hestia Family... Even if Fla said on the recording that my brother Anthony wanted to kill her spirit so that Fla could accept her body... I still can't believe it.'

'Or maybe it's not that I can't believe it, but that I don't dare to.'

She said coolly, "As for Elder Sanning, wouldn't Mr. Jill find out just by asking Elder Pence?"

Elder Pence was standing right behind Jill, watching Freya silently. His old, gnarled face, like the roots of an ancient tree, wore the same smile as when he had come to Lancelot's Family to propose the marriage. But now, as Freya looked at that smile, she could clearly see the iciness beneath its seemingly kind facade.

'Who could have imagined that Grand Elder Pence of the Hestia Family—one of the Four Great Demon-Hunting Clans—would actually be a member of the infamous Lawbreaker organization, the Dragon Eater Association?'

Seeing the conversation turn to him, Elder Pence's dark gaze swept over Freya and the Attendant by her side. "Elder Sanning had some urgent business to attend to, so it was inconvenient for him to join the auction at Traitor's Cliff this time."
