With a final rap of the female auctioneer’s gavel, the price for the A Level Taboo Object, the Golgotha Shroud, settled at nearly two million British pounds.
Nearly two million British pounds... Even though Baron knew Taboo Items were expensive, he hadn’t expected them to be *that* expensive.
This was a figure an ordinary person could never hope to achieve in their entire lifetime. At this point in time, that price could probably buy more than ten standard three-bedroom apartments in Beiping, instantly achieving housing freedom.
Baron’s mind raced. He instantly thought of the large batch of Taboo Items from the Beowulf Family stored in his ring. ’If I just secretly sell one or two... no one would find out, right?’
"All Taboo Items are catalogued. If an A Level Taboo Object from that collection appears at an auction, I will hold you accountable."
Someone sent him a message via Spiritual Power. Without even thinking, he knew it was Isabella. Only she would say something like that.
In the end, the A Level Taboo Object was successfully won by Gold of the Walter Family. He smiled as he explained to Dewey and the others beside him why he had chosen to bid on this Taboo Object.
As a Dragon Knight, Baron’s superhuman hearing naturally allowed him to eavesdrop on their conversation. He sneered internally. ’Your money is gone, and soon your Taboo Object will be too.’
After the shroud was auctioned off, more items were brought onto the stage: Taboo Items, Magic Potions, alchemy items, and even Professional Lawbooks.
Without exception, most of the B Level and higher Taboo Items sold for a good price, aside from a few abstract ones, such as a Rolex that traps its user in a time loop at the cost of wasting an equivalent amount of time.
And, also without exception, the demonstrations for these Taboo Items were mostly conducted by attendants assisted by the masked Jack, save for those done by the shapely female auctioneer herself.
Baron could already predict the fate of these Taboo Items, which was why he had told Isabella not to bid on any.
As for the Taboo Items that didn’t fetch a good price, they were all contained by the Westminster People’s Bank, represented by S Level containment specialist Kasha.
It seemed Westminster Cathedral had really come prepared. Basically, just as Baron had predicted, barring any other surprises, the Taboo Items at this auction, from A Level to D Level, would likely all be snapped up by those two.
Other items, such as Magic Potions and Lawbooks, also sold well.
Besides the Magic Potions crafted by Alchemists to replenish Spiritual Power and heal injuries, some of them were Potions for Demon Hunters to reach the Entry Tier or to Promote.
These auctioned Hunter Magic Potions usually contained materials from Demons or even Magical Beasts, which were necessary for a Demon Hunter’s promotion.
Naturally, most of these Magic Potions were bought by Demon Hunters.
As for the Professional Lawbooks, there wasn’t much to say. Even the Professional Lawbooks for Demon Hunters, which Baron had complained were as common as stray dogs, had a starting bid of over a million. And that was without a matching Tier-Entering Potion.
What Baron remembered most vividly was the Professional Lawbook for the Wizard class. Just a single one of those actually had a starting bid in the tens of millions.
’Is the Wizard profession really just for whales?’
In the end, that Lawbook was also bought by a family. Through the conversation of those around him, Baron learned that the group was the family of Barbara Hestia’s husband.
The Golden Clan, the Fredericks.
However, they weren’t called that because their family had produced a Golden Mage, but simply because they were extremely wealthy. They were said to be the largest supplier of Gold in Inner London.
All the Alchemists on the market who needed Gold to create alchemy items used the Gold from their family. As a result, they could be short on anything but money.
Barbara’s husband, whom she married into the family, was the eldest son. He was supposedly a Black Iron Mage, but unfortunately, he was currently sitting in prison. And because it was at the behest of the London Tower Master, Newton, the Golden Clan didn’t even dare try to get him out.
From the looks of it, a Golden Mage was indeed much more powerful than the Golden Clan.
On a side note, back when there was a consensus among the Inner Side Old Blood Clans and the Law Enforcement Organization to put a warrant out for Baron, the London Tower was the only one that didn’t get involved.
According to Jack, if the London Tower had gotten involved, with the methods of those Wizards, Baron could have been captured and dragged back even if he had changed his name and fled to Africa.
Baron deeply agreed with this. Aside from being poor at close combat, a Wizard’s other stats were all A-tier.
Fortunately, the Inner Side hadn’t yet developed anything like the ’Palmer Witch Riders’ of the Proles. Otherwise, the Wizard class would truly have a 5A stat panel.
At that moment, the orchestral music accompanying the auction suddenly grew a little more spirited. On the central exhibition stage, a profound and reserved middle-aged man who looked incredibly learned replaced the original female auctioneer.
"Ladies and gentlemen... The next item to be auctioned, due to its importance and special nature, please allow me to personally come on stage to introduce it... I just hope the Inner Side’s Magical Creatures Organization doesn’t come looking for me tomorrow."
The guests began to whisper amongst themselves. They recognized the man on stage as the host of the auction.
Baron’s pupils contracted. He too recognized the man on stage. Besides being the host of the auction, this guy was also the High Priest from the Monastery’s Dragon Eater Association—the one he was supposed to have killed!
Even though the man wore a mask, Baron was still able to determine his identity from his physique and his voice, which was deep and resonant, yet tinged with a faint scent of blood.
He glanced at Freya out of the corner of his eye; she was clearly unaware of the man’s identity. Baron rubbed the Gentiana Pattern Ring on his hand, which was disguised as a different color, and silently watched the High Priest on the stage. He began to wonder, ’Is his attack going to start today?’
