Chapter 429 - 240: It’s Her?

She was called an Angel because of her pair of pure white, smooth wings. The massive wings drooped limply behind her back; they were the reason everyone had seen a double silhouette behind the gray cloth earlier.

Besides the wings, atop the girl’s head was a pair of equally snow-white beast ears, which looked as if they belonged to some kind of canine.

She was curled up in a corner of the cage, her body enveloped by her wings. Under the warm, orange light, the girl was like a pure white lamb, drawing out the hungry wolf in everyone’s heart.

All the guests in the hall were awestruck. Some of the more respectable gentlemen couldn’t help but rise to their feet, while the ladies—depending on whether they were married or not—either gasped in amazement or shot hateful glares at the girl on stage.

People couldn’t help but exclaim, "She’s like a creation of God from the Bible."

Another gentleman stared, almost mesmerized, at the girl in the cage. "Perfect Defilement," he said in astonishment.

"Yes. ’Perfect Defilement’."

The High Priest proudly introduced the girl in the cage to the guests. "According to a bloodline analysis by our auction house’s finest Alchemist, the Demon’s Blood contaminating her is a mixture from at least three different Demons."

"But the bloodlines of these Demons have fused perfectly with this Bloodless one, with none of the side effects seen in other defiled individuals. She is as perfect as the Mermaids of the sea, the Centaurs of the plains, or even the Birdmen of the sky! In fact, she is even more exceptional!"

The High Priest proclaimed passionately: "This is a perfect creation, molded by God through the hands of a Demon! Possess her, and you will hold the power to create an entirely new race!"

"According to the latest research in the Alchemy Realm, humanoid Magical Creatures like Mermaids and Centaurs are now widely considered to be individuals infected with Demon’s Blood."

Freya said in a low voice, "Their bloodlines were ’defiled’ by Demon’s Blood, turning them into the Magical Creatures now known throughout the Inner Side. In the Magical Creatures Realm, a humanoid creature like this—one with no adverse side effects and the potential to reproduce and form a new people—is what’s known as a ’Perfect Defilement.’

If that host isn’t concealing any other special afflictions caused by her infection, then it’s just as he said. The person who possesses this girl has a very high probability of becoming the God of an entirely new people."

Baron looked at Freya, who could read the question in his eyes: ’You know about this stuff?’ Annoyed, she replied telepathically, "Magical Creatures was my major at the Wizard School!"

Freya added, "No wonder the Holy Cross Association sent people to this auction. It looks like they got wind of it."

For a moment, Baron didn’t understand what Freya meant. ’What’s the connection between creating a new race and the Holy Cross Association?’

Isabella said coolly, "Those Faith Knights only have one thing on their minds: spreading their faith. They won’t pass up any opportunity to do it. Right now, they have churches all over the Inner Side and even the entire world. Since they can’t make much more progress with the Old Races’ faith in the short term, they’ll naturally choose to create their own."

’If there’s no demand, create it. These Law Enforcement Organizations are really something else. I guess it’s no wonder Britain was the first to have its industrial revolution,’ Baron thought with a touch of sarcasm.

Onstage, the host—the High Priest in disguise—was still delivering a passionate oration on the girl’s ’benefits.’ He treated her more like a product than a living person. His earlier agreement with the sentiment from the crowd that the infected were merely ’defective products’ also made it clear his mindset was much the same as most of the high-and-mighty Old Blood Nobility of the Inner Side.

However, in the Inner Side, where bloodline discrimination was even more severe than among the Racial Knights of the United States, this was perfectly normal.

It was just... Baron looked at the girl on display like an exhibit and thought to himself, ’What they say on the internet is true. The world is just one giant coincidence.’

"You seem to know the girl on stage, sir?" Barbara asked, having noticed something in Baron’s eyes.

’Of course I know her.’ Baron silently watched the girl in the cage. She was looking around frantically, as nervous as a lost little lamb. Not only did he know her, but they had also spent a considerable amount of time together.

’It was Vivian, the infected girl who had come to Inner London with her grandfather for treatment. To think she’d been captured and brought to an auction, sold off as the future queen of a new race... No, ’queen’ was more likely just a euphemism for a breeding machine.’

’I didn’t see those wings on her back when we were on the Magic Train. Had she been hiding them back then?’

Baron’s mood inexplicably grew heavy. For a moment, he even forgot to answer Barbara’s question. Normally, this would be a major taboo in the Inner Side, but Barbara didn’t fault him for his lapse in etiquette. Instead, she stopped one of her kinsmen who was about to make a rude comment. The man had wanted to say something, but he backed down after seeing the cold look in the eyes of the Beowulf Family’s eldest daughter.

Barbara, sensing an opportunity, smiled and said, "Miss Isabella seems to have a special fondness for this gentleman."

Isabella’s expression remained unchanged. "I simply don’t want Lancelot’s Family to let a talent go to waste, the same way Miss Freya once overlooked the very Constantine who is now causing such a stir throughout the Inner Side."

Freya was inwardly furious. ’How did she manage to drag me into this?!’

She was about to start a verbal spar, but her gaze fell upon the very same Constantine Isabella had just mentioned—the one currently causing a stir in the Inner Side. She saw that the young man’s unremarkable face was still perfectly calm, completely unruffled. He didn’t have the smug look she had expected to see, and just like that, the anger in her chest dissipated.
