While My Husband Cheated, I Married His Powerful Brother
Chapter 170 Consumed by JealousyChapter 170: Chapter 170 Consumed by Jealousy
The busy street down below was full of afternoon traffic and people moving back and forth.
Naya Whitmore’s eyes followed Eleanor’s pointing finger, cutting straight across the pavement. Over on the opposite sidewalk, a small group of three women was just stepping out of a newly rented storefront. They were chatting, laughing out loud, and holding notebooks and measuring tapes in their hands.
Naya’s dark eyes narrowed into thin, sharp slits.
"Which one is she?" Naya asked, her tone already laced with a heavy attitude.
Eleanor raised her hand slightly toward the glass pane. "The one right in the middle. The girl with dark hair and simple clothes."
Naya locked her gaze onto her target. Veyra. She looked small, ordinary, and completely unremarkable.
She wasn’t wearing anything flashy at all, just a pair of basic jeans and a simple blouse. Her dark hair was pulled up into a plain ponytail, and she was laughing easily at something her friend had just said.
A sudden surge of deep contempt washed over Naya, making her stomach turn.
"That’s really her?" Naya asked, turning her head with a look of total disbelief. "That’s the woman Dorian went out of his way to marry?"
Eleanor gave a slow, solemn nod. "Yes. That’s her."
Naya shook her head, letting out a sharp breath. "She’s literally nothing. She’s a complete nobody. She looks like a basic cashier straight off a retail floor."
Eleanor stayed quiet, letting Naya take it all in.
Naya’s upper lip curled into a harsh sneer. "She isn’t even pretty. She’s plain, average, and looks like she came straight from a back alley."
She turned her attention to the two women standing beside Veyra. One was younger, looking quiet and shy, while the other was holding onto a thick binder and looking around like she was nervous.
Naya scoffed, her voice completely dismissive. "Look at the people she hangs out with. She surrounds herself with total nobodies because she doesn’t know a single important person in this city."
Eleanor leaned forward just a little, her voice dropping into a quiet murmur. "She knows Dorian."
Naya’s jaw clamped shut, the tight muscles in her cheek working overtime.
She turned back to stare out the window, her eyes fixed on Veyra once again.
As she watched her walk down the sidewalk, a strange feeling hit her. Something about the way Veyra moved, the way she threw her head back to laugh, and the casual way she tossed her hair felt familiar.
Naya narrowed her eyes, studying every line of Veyra’s face. She was completely sure she had seen this woman somewhere before today.
Then, like a bolt of lightning, the memory came rushing back to her.
The photograph. It had happened back at the high-society charity gala. She had grabbed Dorian’s personal phone off the table when he wasn’t looking, tapped the screen open, and saw the image saved right there.
It was a clear photo of Veyra standing close to Dorian. Their hands were held tightly together, and their eyes were locked in an intense look.
The memory made Naya’s blood boil with hot rage.
"That’s her," Naya spat out, her voice turning sharp and venomous. "That’s the exact same woman from the photograph."
Eleanor blinked, putting on a confused face. "What photograph?"
"The photo on Dorian’s phone at the charity event," Naya said, her tone dripping with anger. "I saw her with my own eyes. She was standing right there holding hands with Dorian."
Eleanor raised her eyebrows, acting surprised. "You actually saw that?"
"I saw the whole thing clear as day."
Naya’s hands curled up into tight fists against the tablecloth, her sharp designer nails digging deep into her palms until it hurt.
She had tried so hard to force that image out of her head over the last few weeks. She had tried to convince herself that it was just some meaningless business contact or a distant relative. But that picture had stayed in her mind, driving her crazy in the middle of the night.
Now the truth was sitting right in front of her. That random woman in the photo was actually Dorian’s hidden wife.
Naya couldn’t pull her eyes away from Veyra.
She watched the way she walked down the street with total confidence. She watched the way she smiled and reached out to pat her friend’s shoulder, acting like she was the absolute center of their little world.
Naya’s voice dropped down to a bitter whisper. "She’s the one. She’s the nobody who ruined my life and took everything away from me."
Eleanor kept her tone soft and comforting. "I know, dear."
Naya kept her gaze locked onto Veyra’s back as her mind raced through a hundred different scenarios at once.
She had been waiting for a moment like this for a long time. She had been desperate to find a way to get payback for the humiliation she suffered, and now her main target was standing right across the street in plain sight.
A dark, cold smile slowly spread across Naya’s face. It was sharp, mean, and calculating.
She was going to make Veyra pay for every single thing. She was going to make this woman deeply regret the day she ever set foot in Etland City.
Eleanor caught the dark shift in Naya’s expression right away.
She leaned in closer, putting on a curious look. "You really recognized her from before?"
Naya gave a sharp nod. "On Dorian’s phone. Back at the gala."
Eleanor tilted her head. "Tell me what else happened."
Naya’s tone turned bitter and nasty. "I snatched his phone off the table because I wanted to see what he was keeping hidden from everyone. And right there on the screen, she was standing close to Dorian, holding his hand."
She paused for a second to catch her breath, her chest heaving with anger.
"I knew the second I saw it that she was bad news. I knew she was just using Dorian to climb up the ladder. And now she somehow managed to trick him into signing marriage papers."
Eleanor nodded slowly, looking thoughtful. "So you already knew she was a problem back then."
"I knew she was a threat to my whole future."
Without warning, Naya stood right up from the table. Her chair dragged across the floorboards with a loud, harsh scrape that made a few people downstairs look up.
"I’m going straight down there right now," Naya declared, reaching for her purse.
Before she could step away, Eleanor’s hand shot out across the table, her fingers wrapping around Naya’s wrist like a tight cuff.
"Stop," Eleanor said firmly. "You can’t do that."
Naya glared down at her, her eyes flashing with anger. "Why the hell not?"
Eleanor’s voice turned urgent as she held her back. "She doesn’t walk around alone. She has full security with her everywhere she goes. Eight heavy bodyguards, watching her every move."
Naya’s eyes went wide in pure shock. "Eight?"
"Eight full-time guards. That man Leon is standing right beside her, and the rest are spread out in the crowd watching everything." Eleanor shook her head, pulling Naya back toward her seat. "If you go marching down there to pick a fight right now, you’ll be blocked before you even reach her. You’ll end up humiliated, thrown out, or handed straight over to the police."
Naya stood frozen by her chair, her voice shaking with disbelief. "She actually has eight bodyguards protecting her?"
"Yes. Dorian made sure of it."
All the color flushed out of Naya’s face, leaving her pale, before a dark wave of red anger rushed right back up her neck. Her entire body was trembling with fury.
Eight personal bodyguards for a complete nobody. For a basic shopgirl. For a woman who had come out of nowhere and stolen the exact life Naya had spent years planning for herself.
Naya dropped her voice into a low, deadly whisper. "That was supposed to be my life."
Eleanor kept her mouth shut, letting the jealousy burn.
Naya’s voice cracked as her frustration boiled completely over. "That kind of treatment belongs to me! The private security, the bodyguards, the endless protection, and the Thorne family fortune! Every single bit of that was supposed to be mine!"
She turned back to the window, staring down at Veyra as she walked down the block.
Her eyes blazed with intense, bitter hatred.
She was completely consumed by pure jealousy, and there was no turning back now.
