While My Husband Cheated, I Married His Powerful Brother
Chapter 175 The Betrayal BeginsChapter 175: Chapter 175 The Betrayal Begins
The setup inside the second-floor café remained quiet and dim.
Naya Whitmore sat directly across from Xander Hale. Her blue eyes were icy cold, and her voice cut sharply through the low background music of the room. She had just given him a direct order to hand over every single piece of information he had on Veyra.
Xander hesitated for a long moment, staring down at his untouched coffee cup.
Deep down, he really did not want to betray Veyra. She had stepped up when he was completely out of options. She had personally reached out to Dr. Harrison, convincing the top surgeon to perform the delicate operation that saved his mother’s life. He owed her an immense debt.
However, sitting right in front of him was Naya Whitmore, and she was genuinely dangerous. Her father was a powerful city councilman actively running for higher political office. She possessed real authority, vast financial connections, and the kind of influence that could crush a local landlord like him overnight.
If he dared to refuse her request, she could easily ruin his reputation and destroy his livelihood.
He took a slow, deep breath to steady his nerves.
"Veyra Solenne," Xander began, forcing his voice to stay even. "She’s the daughter of Peter Solenne, a man who ruined his own family through heavy gambling debts. She basically spent her entire childhood growing up in total poverty."
Naya’s eyes narrowed slightly as she processed the background. "Go on."
"She was previously married to Caspian Thorne," Xander continued. "He ended up divorcing her. After that split, she ended up marrying a simple security bodyguard, a complete nobody with no background."
Naya’s lips curled into a faint, disdainful sneer. "A complete nobody."
"She came to me recently to rent out my commercial space," Xander added, wanting to sound useful. "She plans to open a modern milk tea shop together with two business partners. But during our lease negotiation, she actually used Dr. Harrison’s name to push me into a corner and force a lower monthly rent."
Naya raised her eyebrows in sudden surprise. "Dr. Harrison?"
"The famous senior doctor," Xander explained. "The same specialist who performed the life-saving surgery on my mother."
Naya leaned forward across the small table, her gaze turning intense. "Is her relationship with Dr. Harrison really that close?"
"Extremely close," Xander said. "He treats her like his own daughter. He vouches for her character in public and protects her whenever problems come up."
Naya smiled slowly, a dark and cold expression spreading across her face.
"So she knows how to manipulate influential people to get whatever she wants," Naya said softly, piecing her own narrative together. "She uses an old doctor’s reputation to earn unearned trust, and then she uses his clout to intimidate local property owners."
Xander kept his mouth shut, choosing not to correct her assumption.
Naya’s tone flattened into something chilling. "She is far more calculating than I initially thought."
Naya turned her head to look out the large glass window. Her cold gaze locked onto the storefront across the street. Through the glass, Veyra was still visible inside the room, smiling naturally, pointing toward the layout, and chatting happily with her friends.
Naya’s hands tightened into tight fists against her leather handbag.
Her thoughts turned toward Veyra’s new project. The milk tea shop. The growing business. The independent life Veyra was so proudly building for herself.
Naya was determined to smash every bit of it to pieces.
She turned back toward Xander, her voice completely smooth, calm, and deliberate.
"I want you to reclaim that commercial space," she stated.
Xander blinked in shock, staring at her. "Reclaim the shop?"
"Yes," Naya said flatly. "Terminate her lease agreement immediately and kick her off the property."
Xander’s face drained of color. "I can’t just do that out of nowhere. We already signed a binding legal contract."
Naya’s voice dropped to a freezing whisper. "You can and you will. You’ll simply pay the early termination penalty stated in the agreement. I will personally cover every single cent of that cost for you."
Xander opened his mouth to protest, but no words came out. He slowly closed it.
He was completely trapped in a corner. If he refused Naya’s demand, her family would destroy his property business. If he went along with her scheme, he would be stabbing the woman who saved his mother right in the back.
He swallowed hard, his throat dry. "When exactly do you want me to hand her the eviction notice?"
Naya smiled thinly. "Not right now."
Xander frowned, confused. "What?"
"Let her finish every single part of the renovation first," Naya instructed, her voice soft and poisonous. "Wait until she has poured all her personal savings, her precious time, and her full energy into fixing up that empty room. Wait until the very moment she is ready to open the doors."
She leaned closer. "That is when you will cancel the lease."
Xander stared at her in utter disbelief, his voice barely a murmur. "You completely want to destroy her."
Naya’s smile broadened, completely devoid of warmth. "I want to ruin her entire life."
A heavy wave of nausea settled deep in Xander’s stomach.
Over the years, he had done plenty of questionable things. He had made harsh threats, pushed tenants around, and acted out of pure greed. But this targeted malice felt entirely different.
Naya didn’t just want the property back; she wanted to crush Veyra’s spirit, humiliate her in front of everyone, and force her into total misery.
A genuine pang of guilt and sympathy for Veyra struck his heart.
Yet, alongside that guilt came a cold, selfish sense of relief. At least he was not the person standing in Naya Whitmore’s crosshairs. He was merely an instrument she was using to strike her enemy.
He gave a small, slow nod. "I understand what needs to be done."
Naya’s expression remained icy. "Good."
She picked up her purse and stood up from the table. Walking over to the window, she stood there for a moment looking down at the sunlit storefront below.
Across the asphalt, Veyra was still inside the brightly lit room, laughing easily as she shared another idea with her team.
Naya’s eyes burned with quiet hostility.
"Veyra Solenne," she whispered under her breath. "You took away my status and my future. Now I am going to strip away everything you hold dear."
Inside the dusty commercial unit, Veyra was still actively reviewing the interior plans.
She had no idea what kind of conversation was taking place in the quiet café across the street. She had no clue that Naya Whitmore was staring at her with pure hatred, or that a calculated trap was already closing in around her new venture.
She held up Jade’s hand-drawn blueprints, her eyes bright with genuine enthusiasm.
"This is honestly fantastic," Veyra said, pointing to the drawn counter space. "The seating booths look cozy, the lighting setup feels comfortable, and the overall style is matching my exact vision for the place."
Jade beamed with pride, holding her pencil ready. "I’ll sit down tonight and draw up the precise measurements for the construction crew."
Mia nodded in agreement. "And I’ll start contacting suppliers tomorrow morning to get prices on all the counter fixtures, blenders, and raw ingredients."
Megan raised her hand with a grin. "Leave the heavy seating to me. I can start hauling over the spare tables and padded chairs from my mother’s storage building by this weekend."
Veyra let out a light laugh, looking around at her partners. "We are actually making this happen."
"We really are," Mia replied with a warm smile.
Veyra cast her gaze around the bare room, looking past the peeling paint, the dusty floors, and the unvarnished walls. All she saw was pure potential and a bright future.
A strong feeling of hope and excitement filled her chest.
She had secured a great physical store. She had reliable, hardworking friends by her side. She had a clear, solid path forward.
She didn’t know that Naya Whitmore was watching her every move from the shadows. She didn’t know that Xander Hale was actively plotting to betray her trust.
She simply kept making lists, sharing her dreams, and laying down the foundation for her new life.
She moved forward with complete confidence, entirely unaware of the severe trouble waiting for her just around the corner.
