"Are you crazy?!"
Adam looked up at the pink-haired girl and flashed a grin. "In a manner of speaking. Hehe."
"I...I can’t believe it. You’re really crazy."
April muttered in a daze. There was no way Adam could have done what he did if he wasn’t insane. But more than that was that display of physical strength. The axe kick literally shattered the skull of the raptor.
It was incredible.
The way he hadn’t asked her permission before grabbing her around the waist made her blush a little. But there was nothing to it; it simply came as a surprise to her.
Unaware of what the pink-haired girl was thinking, Adam climbed his way towards the grotto. The space was too narrow to support the two of them comfortably. Then again, Adam had no intention of staying there.
"Are you alright?" Adam asked moments after he came up to April.
"I should be asking you that." April shot back, giving Adam a once-over. Fortunately, she found no injuries on him. "That was a really dangerous stunt you pulled back there. What would you have done if you fell?"
"Don’t stress the small stuff," Adam casually dismissed the subject. "Let’s continue our climb before more of that raptor comes seeking trouble."
Without waiting for a response, Adam continued climbing. Left speechless, the pink-haired girl stared as Adam climbed away from her. She could not believe Adam had simply brushed aside the issue.
She let out a resigned sigh and climbed after him. The sun had already dipped below the horizon, bringing forth the night. But the duo were already more than halfway to the top.
Meanwhile, the watching parents, guardians, officials and instructors who had seen what Adam had done were left in awe. The boy was a daredevil.
Jonathan, in particular, felt his heart hammering against his ribs the entire time. His son had nearly given him a heart attack. Never had he imagined Adam could be that daring. But what shocked him the most was that blink he executed.
Unlike the people around him, he knew Adam knew no such technique. The only ones he had taught the boy were fighting moves, and those weren’t techniques. That left only one possibility.
His son had learnt it from observing that grey-haired girl. The technique itself was nothing special for someone in his realm. But the execution was just beautiful. It was like watching a master at work.
On the other hand, the vice-principal could not help but smile. Not only was the boy intelligent, but he was also a combat genius. Adam was the perfect all-rounder; a true genius.
Asher Princeton suddenly felt the urge to take on a disciple. He was so glad he accepted to take on this new batch of first years. Missing Adam would have been a painful loss. In all honesty, he had never seen the appeal in taking on a disciple.
It was just extra work with no pay. Now, however, his thoughts had changed. Seeing the boy display such talents stirred something in him. It was a strange, yet warm feeling inside. Asher was looking forward to meeting the boy in person.

"Finally!"
April declared as she fell on her back, her breathing slightly heavy. The climb to the top had not been particularly exhausting, but it still took a lot out of her. She glanced to the side to see Adam looking around, barely out of breath.
"Wh... What are you thinking now?" April asked as she forced herself to sit up. "Don’t tell me you still want to keep moving?"
"Of course not," Adam replied without looking over to her. "I’m simply looking out for danger."
Because there was no moon above, there was barely any light around, making seeing a lot more challenging. Adam turned around to the valley. He spotted a few fires flickering here and there, knowing they were set by other applicants. And far, far away in the distance, probably tens of kilometres away, the sky was lit up in a dim glow.
’That must be coming from the city. I didn’t realise we were this far away from the academy.’ Adam thought to himself, impressed at whoever teleported them here. He turned to face April and said, "Let’s get some fire started."
"Fire?" April echoed confusedly. "Oh... so you’re a flame user."
"Yes."
Adam replied without hesitation, moving away from the edge as he gathered the twigs and broken branches scattered on the ground. Farther away from the cliff, the stone ground dipped lower, providing a bit of coverage from the strong winds.
April followed along as he watched Adam arrange the wood to make the fire. He then pointed a finger forward, channelled his Spark and created a small, orange flame that started the fire. Warmth soon bathed their immediate surroundings, chasing away a bit of the cold.
The pink-haired girl sat on the opposite side and lowered her backpack, bringing out her ration and two water bottles. She wordlessly passed Adam’s bottle over before picking up her ration.
"Thanks."
Adam received his bottle and took a quick sip, calmly staring as April unwrapped her ration and broke it into two pieces. Seeing her ration reminded him of what he had lost, reigniting his almost forgotten fury.
"Here." April looked at Adam and offered a piece to him.
Adam looked at the piece and then at the pink-haired girl. The rectangular-shaped ration brick was already too small and slim for one person. Getting a water bottle was good enough for him.
"It’s fine." Adam politely turned it down. "The ration is not enough for one person. Besides, I’m not that hungry."
"Don’t be modest, Adam. Take it. I insist." April did not pull her hand back, her expression serious. "Either that or I toss this piece away."
Adam raised his brows in mild surprise. They barely knew each other, so there was no need for her to sacrifice what little she had. Then again, he could see that the girl was serious.
"Thanks." Adam finally accepted her offer and took the piece from her hand. "I’ll make it up to you later."
"You already did." April chuckled softly as she looked at Adam’s confused expression. "Don’t you remember what you did during that raptor’s attack?"
"Oh, right. That..."
He hadn’t thought much about his actions back then. He simply did what he felt was the best course of action. Silence settled between the two as they chewed on their portions.
The next day promised its own challenges and discoveries. But they would have to survive the night first.
