Inside a sleek and luxurious vehicle only the truly elite and powerful could afford, Aurelius Spencer casually sat in the backseat with one leg crossed over the other.
He had one hand supporting his chin while the other held a tablet with information about a certain someone.
Aurelius had long brown hair casually tied in a ponytail, green confident eyes, and a presence that spoke of nobility and relaxed confidence. Born of the Spencer family, he had everything one could ever ask for.
He had the talent, the looks, the influence, and one of the most powerful affinities ever recognised in the world.
Beast Taming.
This affinity allowed the user to tame any beast through a contract. Through that contract, the user was able to use all the beast’s awakened abilities under contract and have their stats permanently raised by a certain percentage.
It made the user far stronger than any other person in the same realm, and highly versatile. And the more powerful they became, the more beasts they could tame. It had been through this affinity that his family had been able to rise to their current position in the Northern Federation.
Like most elite and powerful heirs, Aurelius chose the fourth class type. It wasn’t that he was incapable of taking on the highest tier of the second class type, but that he found it bothersome.
There was no reason to take such a course when they had subordinates for that. His goal was to simply go through the motions, as directed by his father.
Who would have thought there would be a black sheep in the academy admission evaluation?
Aurelius had not been bothered at the time, since there had been no need.
But in less than twenty-four hours of being admitted, this Adam fellow had found himself in one trouble after the other. His curiosity about the boy naturally developed as the public continued to clamour on about his existence.
Aurelius had then ordered a detailed background check on the boy, which he was currently reading while on his way to the academy.
There was nothing special about the boy or his family. However, the boy’s father was rather powerful, and a speed-type awakener no less.
’Maybe that’s where his talents came from,’ he silently thought.
It wasn’t far-fetched to hear people awaken with powerful affinities and talents from a no-name background. But for the boy to awaken a physical and a dual-elemental affinity was a real shock.
The boy’s results finally made sense.
Sadly for the boy, he had to get entangled with a few elite heirs. Under normal circumstances, the Spencer family’s intelligence network could have uncovered the one behind the boy’s capture, but that did not seem to be the case.
Those idiots from the Sterling and Blackwell families could not have been that meticulous. That meant someone a lot higher up the food chain was involved.
As to who that person or group was, he had no idea. They covered their tracks so well that even his family could not find anything.
’That in itself hints at a couple of families within the Federation. But why...?’
It made no sense.
Teaching the boy a lesson would not escalate to such levels. Shifting his gaze from the tablet, he looked outside as vehicles and pedestrians went about their day.
But more than that, however, was how Mr Asher Princeton had personally made a move. The vice-principal was someone who did not like to personally get involved with students. That had been the case since the man joined the academy. Who would have thought he would take the boy as his disciple?
Perhaps the vice-principal was curious as to what having a disciple meant. Perhaps it was some kind of pet project to see how good a teacher he was. Whatever the case, he didn’t think it would last.
"Francis, what do you think about the ongoing issue around that boy, Adam?" Aurelius glanced at his driver as he asked.
The driver seemed to consider the question for a moment before replying, looking into the rearview mirror. "I think everyone is making a mountain out of a molehill, Young Master. The boy may be talented, but compared to the affinity you possess, he may not measure up."
Indeed.
Aurelius agreed wholeheartedly but kept his silence. He wasn’t being arrogant or anything of the sort. It was just that people like Adam had risen and fallen over the years. There was only so far a physical affinity could take someone. Adam may be talented, but in his eyes, the boy was inconsequential.
Adam would fade away sooner or later.
Aurelius looked back at the tablet in silence, seemingly thinking about something. ’Should I challenge him to a duel?’
The thought came out of nowhere. Being the first among the current badge of first-years had its benefits. But was it worth challenging Adam over it? Aurelius eventually threw the thought aside, as it had no significant benefits to him.
"We’re here, Young Master."
The driver’s voice pulled Aurelius out of his thoughts. He looked ahead to see the tunnel pass coming into view. The plan had been to arrive at the academy on the last day, but his father had ordered him to arrive today.
Looking out the window, he spotted several high-end vehicles also entering the academy, as many had chosen the second day as their day of arrival. The drive to the first-year dormitories took more than half an hour before his car came to a stop.
Several heads turned to his car before he even stepped out. Whispers began flying around as Aurelius stepped out of the car, the air around him projecting confidence and nobility.
"Isn’t that..."
"Yeah... That’s him. He came in second place during the admission trials."
"Wow... What I would give to get noticed by him."
Aurelius ignored the whispers and chatter as he made his way to the massive first-year building. However, before he could get far, the commotion grew.
"Yo. It’s that boy, Adam."
Aurelius came to a sudden stop when he heard that name. He looked to his left to see Adam making his way to the building, dressed in training clothes. The boy seemed to sense his gaze and also glanced over.
For a brief second, the two held each other’s gaze before Adam continued moving, seemingly unbothered by his status.
’Interesting...’
In that brief moment the two had locked gazes, Aurelius felt his instincts flare. Perhaps there was more to the boy than he had initially thought.
