Who Designed This Underworld Dungeon?

Chapter 1698 - 1008: Mad Fire Burns the Tree (Part 2)

Dorian watched them from behind, contemplating numerous things in his mind.

The geographical position of the Deep Sea Tribe is advantageous, with convenient transportation and abundant resources. It wouldn’t be a bad choice to make it a base.

Thinking this, his eyes emitted a yellow flame, which made Shark and the others shiver for no reason, even in their most familiar waters, fearing they were being watched by some aquatic monster, prompting them to speed up.

But in the next moment, Dorian withdrew the flames from his eyes; it was not the time yet.

Avoid sacrificing something major for a minor gain.

The Demon Continent is a chaotic place where tribes are engaged in battles with each other, selecting the strong to survive like a gladiatorial game. Every year they first deplete a large population before they can invade the continent opposite; if they did not self-destruct, other kingdoms would only be more overwhelmed.

And it was High Priest Onora who ended this chaotic scene, leading her army to subdue many tribes, facilitating peace talks and alliances, pressing down on potentially ruinous great wars for the Demon Clan, leaving small conflicts and frictions to resolve themselves.

The result of this was the Demon Clan’s potential was unleashed, and within a few short years, many achievements emerged, with the Fallen Demon Egg being among the finest.

Every major tribe must listen carefully to Aurora’s words and consider the cost of defiance, something nearly only the Demon King could manage in the past.

So, in the eyes of the current Demon Clan, Onora’s status is self-evident.

And during the prolonged year of deep engagement with humans, Dorian learned many things, such as.....

To capture the thieves, you first capture their king.

At dawn on the third day, they arrived at the water gate of Great Demon City. After revealing his identity, Dorian was allowed entry into the city, while Shark and the others were denied access due to identity reasons.

The exterior of Great Demon City was so grandiose it seemed implausible for the Demon Clan to have established such a marvel, and those residing inside were believed to carry the Demon King Bloodline.

Or, it might be more appropriate to refer to them as the "nobility."

So ordinary demons like Shark shouldn’t even think about entering; there’s no room for lower-class demons to stand here.

Dorian’s minor noble lineage allowed him entry, but the thin bloodline didn’t benefit him much.

On the way led by an envoy sent by the High Priest to the priest’s palace, he witnessed at least ten disputes and brawls, all amongst various renowned families.

The Demon King Bloodline seemed to leave them only with a more belligerent nature; even the demons of the Deep Sea Tribe were more peace-loving by comparison.

To this, Dorian showed a disdainful expression.

He finally reached the priest’s palace in the dark of night, following the envoy into a place he thought he had no right to enter.

That was the terrace for priests to interact with the Great Demon Tree, the closest place to the tree itself.

Standing upon the terrace carved with reliefs of past Demon Kings, was High Priest Onora.

She closed her eyes, gently caressing the Great Demon Tree; moonlight poured down, making her golden hair and eyepatch gleam, the surroundings glowing with starlit splendor.

The branches of the Great Demon Tree seemed to sway, indicating its current joy.

This tree, which could reveal all the secrets of the dead to the priest, seemed to have acknowledged her.

Dorian was momentarily stunned, but only for a moment; his gaze resumed its calm, silently standing to the side.

Until Onora finally concluded her communion and turned to face him—there was no way to be sure if she really saw him, as her eyes were closed.

"Lord High Priest, the mission is complete."

Dorian knelt on one knee to show respect.

"I was delayed in returning due to numerous affairs, please forgive me."

He listened to Onora’s nearing footsteps, struggling to suppress his accelerating heartbeat; despite his composure, the environment made him nervous.

To his disappointment, Onora stopped at a tens-of-meters distance, no longer approaching.

"Stand up, it seems you’ve indeed been influenced by them."

Kneeling on one knee, such formalities are scorned by the Demon Clan. The words Dorian just said were ornate like those of humans, unlike his former self.

Dorian felt the scrutinizing gaze settle upon him, bringing a vast pressure he couldn’t quite describe, upsetting the calm he had prepared for.

Yet how can I yield to pressure, I’m the leader of the Mad Fire God Sect!

Dorian stood up and took a step towards Onora, saying:

"In my infiltration into various kingdoms, I’ve gathered much valuable information, it must be useful, please allow me to recount it all."

He took another step towards Onora, who did not react.

"Though I failed the mission in the Yanor Kingdom and the Light Eagle Group was annihilated, I went to another country and established a vast organization there."

He dared to approach further, struggling against the oppressive aura emanating from Onora that quickened his pounding heart.

Damn it, what kind of strange power is this?

But it doesn’t matter, as long as I reach that place.....

Dorian chattered on, drawing closer to Onora, who remained calm, watching him until the end.

"Boom!"

A sudden mad fire shot from his eyes like a sniper rifle, exploding at a close range without warning, a move no one could evade!

His mind was in disarray, and he could no longer endure.

But Onora’s image vanished; the mad fire pierced through the air, hitting nothing.

"Where did she go!"

Dorian could no longer hold his voice, howling his former crazed tone.

He intended to use mad fire to burn Onora, to make her submit, thereby.

The entire Demon Continent would become the territory of the Mad Fire God Sect, hahahaha!

"I didn’t expect you to be so reckless."

Shadows wiggled on the terrace, and Onora emerged from them, her face indifferent.

"That power, so that’s it, it’s the mad fire. You found yourself a good master."

"Cut the nonsense, watch me burn you!"

Like ocean waves, the mad fire spewed from his eyes, instantly engulfing the whole terrace.

But Onora appeared behind him.

Dorian quickly turned, sweeping the mad fire towards his back.

Onora, however, waved her hand, and the shadow at her feet surged up like a wave, clashing with the mad fire.

"Haaahhhh——"

Dorian howled wildly, while Onora remained expressionless, as indefinable darkness clashed with the mad fire, flames spewing in all directions.

In the next moment, a spear of darkness from behind pierced his spleen, the severe pain causing him to falter, and the mad fire vanished instantly.

Onora’s mouth turned down, elegantly stepping towards Dorian as shadows closed in, ready to contain him.

But just then, a greater flame suddenly appeared behind Dorian.

Onora raised her head to see, her long-closed eyes suddenly opened.

The sky-reaching flame nearly illuminated the whole of Great Demon City, the yellow fire tinting the place with an unusual hue, presenting an unprecedented grand spectacle in history.

But the problem was, the source of these flames was not a beautiful fireworks display.

But the mad fire.

"Crackle——"

Leaves were burned to ashes, branches fell, the bark cracked as it burned, twigs danced in agony...

The Great Demon Tree, engulfed in mad fire, "wailed"!

This tree, who knows how many years it has lived, regarded as the greatest asset by the Demon Clan, enabling the greatest intelligence in the world, had now become the torch of the mad fire!

The demons that did not escape in time were ignited, falling from the sky in lament, the thick branches tumbling one after another, shattering the ground into ruin.

Never before has such a large-scale mad fire appeared in this world...

Onora’s shock was undisguisable, filled with the urge to tear Dorian to pieces!

But just then, because of the sheer scale of the mad fire.

A mad fire sun, resembling an eye yet vastly enormous, gradually formed on the crown of the Great Demon Tree.

The residents of Great Demon City, too, looked up at this anomaly.
