Who Designed This Underworld Dungeon?
Chapter 1718 - 1018: Half-leaf Greatsword VS Wet Little Scythe"Hahahaha, cancel, I can cancel again!"
Leon swung the Half-leaf Greatsword, and just holding this thing made him feel full of spirit, strength surging through his whole body with no end.
"This time really is a huge surprise."
Good thing he’d just gone through back-to-back brutal fights, slaying two giant dragons and the Dragon Hunter Armor Pilgrimage Butterfly. His soul reserves were nice and fat, so even after dying once, the souls he had left were enough to buy the Half-leaf Greatsword on the spot, with some change still left over to pick up a few stalks of Green Flower Grass to patch himself up.
All the way here he was basking in the joy of getting the Half-leaf Greatsword, looking absolutely fired up.
After a period of breaking it in, Leon had more or less figured out the basics of this greatsword’s nature.
It’s a bronze-forged greatsword, and its defining trait is weight—so heavy it’s even a notch heavier than the Bordeaux Hammer. Combine that weight with the sharpness of the blade, and in his hands, cleaving a house in half with a single swing is nothing to talk about; reaching the House Explosion Realm is easy work.
Just that by itself makes it pretty damn handy, and unlike the Bordeaux Hammer, it can actually be enchanted with other attributes. The hammer’s built-in frost is nice and all, but the moment you run into Monsters like Wet Humanoids with high frost resistance, you’re kind of out of tricks.
What really sold Leon on this thing, though, are those two words—cancel.
Simply put, while swinging this Half-leaf Greatsword you can cancel your end lag like with Ring Capture, chaining into Rapid combos. The Ring Knight Straight Sword’s combos are already terrifying—so what happens when the Half-leaf Greatsword starts comboing? That’s just busted.
But Leon also found some differences between the Half-leaf Greatsword and Ring Capture.
First is the input: the cancel on the Half-leaf Greatsword is actually a bit simpler than Ring Capture, almost like triggering a Combat Skill. You can just pop the cancel, and what you see is that after you let one swing fly, your body and arm twitch in a weird spasm and snap back into position, continuing with that "first" slash; or you can fire off a Combat Skill similar to Swirling Slash, and then, if you use cancel during the skill, it’ll turn into...
A helicopter!
Under those conditions, the Half-leaf Greatsword turns into the endlessly spinning rotor of a helicopter, ruthlessly harvesting the Life of any living thing the blade touches. It’s basically the ultimate mowing-the-lawn Musou gear, unbeatable for charging into massive enemy swarms!
But the effect is naturally different from Ring Capture. The Half-leaf Greatsword lacks that mysterious "stagger" power; it can’t make enemies who touch the blade lock up completely like they’ve been hit by Ring Capture.
Rather than calling it cancel, Leon feels like it deserves a more fitting name—Infinite Combo.
Maybe it’s because the weapon’s offensive power is already strong enough that if you added a stagger effect on top, it would probably skyrocket straight into "must-pick weapon" status in every single guidebook.
Even though it looks like all you need is enough souls and then go find the Pilgrim to buy this Invincible weapon, the prerequisites to even meet the Pilgrim are probably brutal. Actually, no—definitely so brutal most people will never meet those conditions.
And even if someone does manage to get their hands on the Half-leaf Greatsword, ordinary folks probably wouldn’t be able to use this weapon at all.
Up till now he’d only been sorting through the upsides of the Half-leaf Greatsword; it was finally time to lay the downsides on the table.
The weapon’s overwhelming killing power against enemies is paid for with near-catastrophic damage to the wielder’s own body.
The Half-leaf Greatsword’s Infinite Combo deals "real damage" to every part of your body that’s involved in swinging it.
Every time you use Infinite Combo, the arm, lumbar spine, leg bones, and other power-generating areas tied to the move will crack a little.
A tiny fracture or two won’t cause any lethal impact on your adventure, but if they stack up, the injuries get very serious. If you keep forcing it at the end, it’ll turn into nearly catastrophic trauma—like your bones completely shattering.
On top of that, if you use the Combat Skill–based Infinite Combo to spin your body like a helicopter...
Then the bones in your torso really will go into comminuted fracture mode in minutes, right before your eyes!
For injuries like that, you’re looking at at least four full gulps from an Elemental Bottle!
The weird part is that this move only pulverizes your bones while leaving your flesh totally untouched, which is seriously freaky.
So compared to Ring Capture, which only burns stamina to activate, the Half-leaf Greatsword is really "deal one thousand to the enemy, take eight hundred yourself," fighting with your very Life burning as fuel.
Of course, if you don’t use Infinite Combo, then you don’t have to worry about bone fractures at all—but in that case, there are completely better weapons you could be using instead, right?
If you’ve got a wheelchair in your hands and you don’t use it, that’s no different from not having a wheelchair at all!
Leon is a properly qualified wheelchair enjoyer.
I’m going to track down those Wet Humanoids with the little scythes and get my payback!
With that ambition, he marched toward the place in his memories.
But just as he finished descending the mountain, he ran into the Gloomy Fountain again, and a large number of Wet Humanoids promptly appeared before him.
There were even more than last time—at least twenty of them. Luckily, there weren’t any spellcasting Wet Humanoids in the mix this time.
"Heh, I get to wash away my shame this fast, huh."
Leon stared at the Wet Humanoids’ little scythes, the urge to rip one away for himself almost impossible to hold back. He leveled the Half-leaf Greatsword in front of him and charged forward with a shout.
