Who Needs a CEO? I Choose Stardom
Chapter 229 - 184: Prodigal Dad and Pissed Off (3)Shunzi had specialized in cooking crayfish for years. His skills in this area might even surpass those of Ni Guangli, his "grandmaster." The moment Ni Bingyan caught the scent, she started drooling and immediately agreed.
After eating the crayfish and saying goodbye to Shunzi, Ni Bingyan returned home. She was so sleepy she couldn’t stop yawning, so she went straight to bed without any time for her studies.
Seeing that his daughter still loved food as much as ever, even if she disliked clubbing, Ni Guangli finally saw a glimmer of hope. He went to bed happy that night, planning to start dragging her around the next day to find delicious food and pass the time.
But when he woke up early the next morning, he found his precious daughter listening to German news while making breakfast, all while stretching her leg against the kitchen sink. She had truly mastered the art of multitasking!
"What in the world are you doing?"
Having just woken up, Ni Guangli’s freshly permed hair was a complete mess. Paired with his look of disbelief, the sight was utterly comical.
Ni Bingyan couldn’t help but laugh out loud before dutifully replying:
"I didn’t get any studying done last night because I went out with you. I have to hurry and make up for it."
Ni Guangli: "..."
’He was just trying to take his daughter out to experience the world, but the way she put it, *he* was the immature, fun-loving one, and she had to squeeze time out of her busy schedule just to humor him.’
’He’d spent money and effort, all for this.’ Ni Guangli was too angry to even speak.
’Who does this kid even take after?’
’That temper of hers is as foul and hard as a stone in an outhouse!’
Ni Bingyan found this amusing and was about to say a few comforting words to him when her phone rang.
"Dad, can you watch the pot for me? The congee with preserved egg and pork is almost ready. Just sprinkle these chopped scallions in a little later! I’m going to go take this call."
Because of Ni Guangli’s sudden arrival, Ni Bingyan had been trying to wrap up work early every day to spend time with her dad, so her RV was still parked at the set of *Rainy Days with an Umbrella*.
Today, however, she had to go to Guozigou to continue filming *Soul Ferryman*. That location was far from home, and her scenes were scheduled back-to-back. Ni Bingyan guessed the call was probably from Duanmu Li, asking if she wanted to move the RV.
Ni Bingyan had originally planned to come home every day, but being dragged clubbing by her dad last night had left her thoroughly traumatized. She decided to use her busy work schedule as an excuse to hide out on set for a couple of days. She’d have a proper talk with her dad when she had the time.
If she did that, she would have to move the RV over to the Guozigou Funeral Home.
Moving that thing was a real hassle, and Duanmu Li always deferred to Ni Bingyan on the matter.
’She couldn’t let her dad hear about this, of course.’
’Otherwise, he’d think she found him a nuisance!’
Ni Bingyan grabbed her phone, bounded up the stairs two at a time, and shut herself in her bedroom before finally looking at the screen.
But the missed call wasn’t from Duanmu Li; it was from Wei Shuojie.
’Calling this early in the morning must mean something was up.’
Ni Bingyan first messaged Duanmu Li on WeChat about moving the RV, then dialed Wei Shuojie’s number.
"Sister Wei? What’s up? Miss me already this morning?"
Wei Shuojie had woken up, checked her phone, and saw a message from the PR department that made her see red.
She had a cold, so she’d turned off her phone and gone to bed early for just one day, and Ni Bingyan still managed to get into trouble. She was at her wit’s end.
"Oh, yeah! I was just wondering how a famous actress like you managed to eat that huge pile of crayfish late at night! An entire iron basin full of them! The shells piled up into a little mountain; I’m surprised you weren’t buried under it!"
"You’re kidding, Sister Wei! I just went to eat crayfish with my dad, and there were paparazzi? What kind of gossip monger is that bored!"
"Maybe in their decades in the business, they’ve never seen an actress who can eat so much, so they thought it was a rare sight!"
Wei Shuojie felt her energy draining away.
Ni Bingyan didn’t think having a big appetite was a bad thing.
Her workouts were intense enough that she wasn’t worried about gaining weight at all.
"Don’t worry, Sister Wei, you can count on me. My abs are still there! I’ve been working on my arm muscles, and they look great. I’ll let you feel them later!"
"If you think that’s all there is to it, you’re sorely mistaken!"
Wei Shuojie snapped, "You went clubbing with your dad last night and took off your mask to eat! Did you really think the booth was so dark that no one would see you? Do you have any idea what they’re saying about the photos? They’re saying you’ve been slacking off on set, that you left filming to spend time with your sugar daddy!"
Ni Bingyan nearly choked.
"Who has that much time on their hands? Plenty of people know my dad! When your own father wants to go clubbing, are you supposed to say no? What if he fell and hurt himself?"
"Right. So someone quickly stepped up to explain for you, saying it wasn’t a sugar daddy, it was your real dad. And then the netizens all went full Sherlock Holmes, analyzing your expression. They said you looked as happy to be there as someone clocking in for a shift at work—totally reluctant. Hahaha! I mean, there aren’t many fathers in the world who take their daughters clubbing."
Wei Shuojie had initially placed high hopes on Ni Guangli, thinking he could convince Ni Bingyan to publish a book. But he’d shown up, and there had been no movement on that front at all.
Not only was there no movement, he was creating a different kind of commotion entirely.
She knew he was just worried about his daughter’s well-being and wanted her to relax and learn to enjoy life.
But as a result, not only had she not learned how to relax, but Ni Bingyan now had to work even harder just to squeeze in time to indulge his nonsense. It was infuriating!
But there was nothing she could do. She couldn’t very well argue with Ni Guangli, so she could only take it up with her own artist.
