Who Says I'm Not a Proper Adventurer?
Chapter 105: Specialty: Double Arrow ReleaseChapter 105: Chapter 105: Specialty: Double Arrow Release
He’d spent a day letting his body adapt.
Before meeting up with Cecilia today, he had gone to see Flora and asked her to find a suitable Potion for him.
She was already helping him look for one.
Lance planned to return to Gray Rock Town tonight, stock up on highly nutritious food from a tavern or the market, buy the Potion, and then head home to safely acquire this powerful Specialty.
For now, his choice was to improve his long-neglected Archery skill.
Based on his experience with Castro Swordsmanship, a relatively ordinary Skill like this wouldn’t grant a Specialty that provided intense physical enhancement.
As long as he could get a useful ranged Specialty, dealing with these Goblin minions would become much easier.
Besides, just by meeting the kill quota for this large-scale extermination mission, he could earn back around three hundred experience points, recouping his investment.
’No matter how I look at it, this is a good deal.’
Lance took a deep breath, focused his mind, and directly invested 47 points of Skill Experience into the Archery tab.
The panel flickered with a faint light.
A massive, chaotic stream of memories flooded into his mind.
The tedious scene of drawing a bow and loosing an arrow repeated over and over again.
His arm muscles began to tremble, a dull ache spreading through his fascia as if he himself had truly trained for countless days and nights under a scorching sun.
[Levin Archery Level 3 (0/375)]
The physical strain from reaching the Master Level was still within tolerable limits.
A fervent look appeared in Lance’s eyes.
’Keep going!’
He’d scrimped and saved, hoarding experience points for so long, all for this ultimate thrill of spending them with abandon!
Without a moment’s hesitation, he dumped another 375 experience points in at once.
[Levin Archery Skill Level +375, Level 3 → Level 4 (Mastery)]
[Perception +1]
This time, the images flooding his mind were no longer of target practice.
Countless complex and varied combat scenarios were brutally crammed into his mind.
All kinds of moving beasts and Demons appeared.
And he was moving too, no longer just shooting from a stationary position.
Lance closed his eyes, silently absorbing these combat instincts that had appeared from nowhere.
Along with the forced increase to his Perception Attribute, he felt his senses become incredibly sharp.
He could instantly map the trajectory of any moving object within a fifty-meter radius, allowing him to anticipate its path.
Not only that. Before, he had to plant his feet firmly to guarantee his accuracy. The moment he moved, his posture would fall apart, and his accuracy against moving targets would plummet.
But now, all sorts of difficult techniques—like generating power from an angled draw and maintaining dynamic balance while shooting—were etched into his very bones.
He could now be called a professional Archer.
This qualitative leap was a world of difference compared to when he was at Level 2.
Just as he opened his eyes again, the notification he’d been most anticipating arrived right on cue.
[Through hundreds and thousands of tedious draws and mechanical repetitions, your muscle memory has thoroughly grasped the essence of nocking multiple arrows at once.]
[You have obtained the Specialty: Double Arrow Release]
---
Double Arrow Release
Specialty Level: Ordinary
Prerequisite: [Levin Archery] must be Level 4 (Mastery)
Effect: You have mastered the ability to nock and shoot two arrows simultaneously. When shooting from a stationary position, neither arrow suffers an accuracy penalty.
When shooting while moving, the accuracy of both arrows is only reduced by 10%.
As the bowstring’s tension is divided, each arrow deals 85% of its normal single-shot damage.
---
Lance quickly calculated the practical benefits of this Specialty in his head.
Normally, loosing two arrows at once would severely compromise one’s form, making accuracy ridiculously poor—let alone attempting it while on the move.
But this Specialty guaranteed only a 10% accuracy penalty even while he was moving.
This meant he could exert greater ranged suppressive fire and cover a wider area against a Monster Group.
Although Double Arrow Release reduced the damage per shot, it was meant for clearing minions anyway.
Especially against Goblins; even at 85% damage, his Attributes were high enough that each arrow would still be a one-shot kill.
It effectively increased his clearing speed.
’Not bad. A high-quality Specialty.’
Lance closed the system panel and turned to the girl crouching behind him.
"I’m ready."
As he spoke, he took the sturdy Hazelwood Short Bow from his back.
"I’m going to clear out the minions now."
"Use a Spell to conceal yourself and stick to the plan. Don’t reveal your position early, no matter what."
Cecilia nodded firmly, her expression intent.
She immediately closed her eyes, Magic Power swirling at her fingertips.
The 0 Ring Spell, [Woodland Camouflage].
It was a practical Spell developed by the High Tier Tutors at Violet Academy, refined through extensive combat experience.
Its inspiration was said to have come from Professional Druids who lived as recluses deep within the forests.
As the Magic Power took effect, the withered yellow leaves on the ground and the thin green vines on the tree trunks seemed to come alive.
They began to crawl up Cecilia’s boots, rapidly clinging to her shoulders and back before weaving themselves together.
In just a few breaths.
A camouflage net woven from real plants had perfectly covered the majority of her body.
This was far more practical than illusionary spells that merely relied on distorting light.
Not only did illusion Spells require a significant, continuous drain on the Caster’s Magic Power to maintain, but the moment the user moved, their position could easily be given away by a flaw in the light’s refraction.
But this camouflage, constructed from physical materials in the environment, blended in perfectly with the gloomy forest background.
Most importantly, it allowed the Caster to make small, safe movements.
Cecilia shifted her feet slightly, her body blending perfectly into the background of bushes. Only her eyes remained visible, fixed intently on the back of the bow-wielding figure advancing below.
A searing current surged from Lance’s chest, rushing through his bloodstream to every corner of his body.
A pale blue screen flickered on his retina, clearly listing his physical data, which was now at its peak.
Power: 13.5 (7.5+6)
Agility: 13.6 (8+5.6)
Perception: 11.2 (7+4.2)
...
Hiding behind a bush, Lance calmly surveyed the Goblin Camp ahead.
The sight before him was completely different from the three Goblin strongholds he’d seen before.
This camp already had the makings of a proper fortification.
Two three-meter-high watchtowers, built from logs, flanked the entrance.
Two Goblin Archers stood on top, scanning the surroundings as they conducted reconnaissance for the camp’s perimeter.
Lance slowly raised the Hazelwood Short Bow, skillfully holding two arrows between his fingers and steadily nocking them both onto the bowstring at the same time.
He dispensed with aiming altogether, relying on his heightened Perception to quickly lock onto the two green figures on the watchtowers.
TWANG!
The bowstring let out a dull thrum.
The Goblin on the left watchtower instinctively sensed danger. It had just started to turn its head...
...but the arrow was too fast. Before it could even scream, the shaft pierced straight through its head.
At almost the exact same instant, the other Goblin met its death.
The other arrow pierced straight through its chest.
The immense force of the impact launched its small body from the three-meter-high watchtower, sending it crashing heavily onto the muddy ground below.
