Chapter 121: Chapter 121: Hydra’s Prophecy
This was a conclusion Orpheus’s father had reached while he was still alive.
His father had once witnessed with his own eyes this man’s terrifying ability to wantonly manipulate fate.
Molok had once confessed to Orpheus’s father that he possessed the formidable power to directly create prophecies.
Once a prophecy was successfully established, the invisible wheels of fate would forcibly push reality in the foretold direction.
But this was by no means without a price.
Should the prophecy fail to come to pass or be thwarted midway, the one who set it would suffer a truly terrifying backlash.
That was why Molok never uttered a prophecy lightly.
Over a decade ago, Molok was not yet the high and mighty Count he was today.
His disguise at the time was merely that of a wandering Minstrel.
It was during that time that Orpheus’s father unexpectedly became acquainted with him, and was shocked to discover that this Minstrel was, in fact, also a direct descendant of Mad King Lot.
It was at that particular juncture that Molok needed Orpheus’s father’s help to accomplish a certain appalling feat.
The rampage in the Underground City, which led to the tragic deaths of hundreds of thousands of civilians, was single-handedly orchestrated by Molok from behind the scenes, all to accomplish that feat.
After that disaster, Molok vanished without a trace for over a decade.
It wasn’t until recently, while sorting through his late father’s belongings, that Orpheus discovered that the special communication device had begun to glow faintly again.
Following this lead, he was finally able to contact him.
On his deathbed, his father had warned him repeatedly: unless it was a moment of absolute crisis, he was never to contact Molok.
Although his father had used some secret method to test and confirm that the other party was one of the Lot Race People with a pure bloodline.
But this man was simply too dangerous.
On the surface, he appeared gentle, refined, and completely normal, but the deeper one dug into his personality, the more one could feel a pure madness that made one’s skin crawl.
He was a true descendant of Mad King Lot, having perfectly inherited that irrational core of madness.
Orpheus’s father had even privately speculated that although this man of this generation was called Molok, perhaps it was just one of many false identities throughout his long life.
Because his father had once seen a figure who looked remarkably similar to Molok among the truly secret ancestral portraits of the Lot Clan.
That portrait dated back to his great-grandfather’s era, or perhaps even earlier.
"Since your father once helped me, I shall honor my promise and help you complete this prophecy."
Molok sat quietly in the main seat, a gentle smile on his face.
This should have been the loving gaze of an elder toward a junior.
But as that gaze fell upon Orpheus, the hairs on the back of his neck stood up, and a bone-chilling cold instantly spread through his entire body.
Then, a strange prophecy, accompanied by Molok’s soft chuckle, slowly began to echo throughout the spacious parlor.
"When the Cyan Moon weeps blood, and night descends."
"The venomous serpent, spurning its fate, craves an immortal crown from imperfection."
"It shall devour the cold, lonely light."
"And douse the severed neck with boiling crimson blood."
"Behold, in the abyss of flowing fire."
"A new head shall break free, birthed in crimson."
"It shall bathe in raging flames, becoming a colossal shadow that roars to the heavens."
"The authority of Nine Heads shall at last be crowned eternal amidst the ashes."
After reciting the prophecy, Molok seemed to recall something utterly hilarious in his mind.
He couldn’t help but lower his head and let out two extremely faint chuckles.
But, overwhelmed by excitement, Orpheus completely missed his uncle’s small, mocking gesture.
Right now, he felt nothing but uncontrollable ecstasy over this prophecy.
His father had once warned him with extreme gravity that Molok loved to play with the fates of others by exploiting loopholes in the wording of his prophecies.
But Orpheus mulled over the verses again and again, unable to find any hidden danger that would work against him.
For it seemed to perfectly align with all of his current plans.
The great work he was currently staking his life on was called "Hydra’s Cradle."
The requirements for challenging this great work were incredibly harsh.
The challenger must attempt to fuse the bloodlines of nine different Sub-human Species into their own body, without the aid of any Healing Spells, Divine Arts, or Potions whatsoever.
Each modification was a mad dance on the razor’s edge of life and death.
Over the years, relying on forbidden knowledge like "Forbidden Alchemy" and "Exotic Anatomy"—subjects that could not see the light of day—Orpheus had managed to endure past the limits of physical collapse, arduously completing eight modifications.
And for the final, most crucial Sub-human Species, he had meticulously selected the Cyan Moon Werewolf King Species.
This species possessed an extremely rare bloodline ability.
Under certain extremely demanding conditions, it granted the ability to resurrect.
Orpheus desperately needed this heaven-defying ability.
Once he forced his way through the final modification and fully completed "Hydra’s Cradle,"
he could make perfect use of this resurrection ability to obtain his next great work.
This was the entirety of his ambition.
Only by completing three true great works with all his might
would he, an unacknowledged illegitimate son, have a chance of being accepted back into the proud Lot Main Family.
Only then would he be qualified to set foot in their true ancestral home.
Molok’s strange prophecy perfectly aligned with all of Orpheus’s innermost desires.
He chewed on the phrases in his mind again and again.
To him, "When the Cyan Moon weeps blood" and "devour the cold, lonely light" undoubtedly signified his successful injection of the Cyan Moon Werewolf King Species’ serum into his heart.
"And "A new head" was the perfect symbol for the Hydra’s final new head growing successfully.
As for the last line, "crowned eternal," it was a blatant hint that upon completing this great work, he would successfully transition into the corresponding Heroic Profession: "Hydra."
All of this foretold that he would finally be accepted back into the proud Lot Clan.
It also meant he would be worthy of touching the glorious crown of Mad King Lot.
Orpheus trembled with excitement.
He immediately rose from his high-backed chair and, with utmost reverence, gave Molok, who sat in the main seat, a deep bow.
"Thank you, Uncle, for your generous help. I will never forget the immense debt I owe you for this day."
Orpheus raised his head, a sincere smile gracing his exquisite face.
However, all he saw was the strange smile lingering on Molok’s lips.
It was a smile that seemed laced with condescending mockery.
This caused an irrepressible, bone-deep chill to suddenly rise in Orpheus’s heart.
’It seems Father’s warnings were right. This seemingly gentle man before me is, to the bone, a complete and utter madman.’
