Chapter 124: Your Ears are Completely Red

Chapter 124: Chapter 124: Your Ears are Completely Red

"Cecilia!"

Yuna suddenly raised her voice and called out.

The shout startled Cecilia, who had been completely lost in thought, and made her shoulders jump.

"What is it!"

The maiden’s eyes darted about in a panic. She looked at the familiar buildings around them, as if only just now realizing she was on her way back to the dorm.

"Where are we?!"

Cecilia asked with a slight stutter.

Yuna stopped walking and gave the absent-minded girl in front of her a reproachful look, sizing her up and down.

"So all that stuff I was just telling you... you didn’t hear a single word, did you?"

Caught red-handed, Cecilia was instantly flustered.

"I... I was listening, of course!"

She retorted instinctively, but a goody-two-shoes like her was terrible at lying.

Her darting eyes and stammering tone gave her away completely.

"Hmph, hmph!"

Yuna crossed her arms and let out a triumphant little snort.

She deliberately took a step forward, bringing her face close to Cecilia’s, and stared at her, her eyes wide as she looked from side to side.

This intense scrutiny made it impossible for Cecilia to look her in the eye. She could only avert her gaze guiltily toward a nearby streetlight.

"Wh-what is it? Is something wrong with me?"

"Wrong! Very, very wrong!"

Yuna took half a step back, a strange, gossipy smile playing on her lips.

"Don’t tell me you’re acting all spaced-out because you’re thinking about spending the night alone with Lance in the wilderness?"

Since they had just had a barbecue together today, Yuna was now formally acquainted with Lance, so she could call him by his first name.

"Of course not!"

Having her true feelings exposed, Cecilia reacted as if she’d stepped on hot coals, immediately issuing a loud denial.

"It is so!"

Yuna pressed her advantage, poking her roommate’s shoulder.

"You can’t even argue your way out of it. Go on, feel for yourself. Your ears are bright red."

"That’s... That’s because it’s really hot tonight!"

After tossing out that weak, unconvincing excuse, Cecilia could no longer bear her roommate’s teasing gaze.

She turned, gathered her skirts, and dashed back to their dorm building as if fleeing for her life.

Watching her roommate’s hasty retreat, Yuna let out a wicked snicker.

As expected, things were getting more and more interesting.

However, Yuna knew to quit while she was ahead. She didn’t chase after her to tease the easily embarrassed girl any further, lest she actually make her angry.

Cecilia ran all the way back to their second-floor room in one breath.

Once her heart had calmed down a bit, she went to her desk and sat down.

She had originally intended to follow her usual routine, taking out a sheet of parchment to write in her internship review journal and summarize the day’s combat experiences.

But after hearing the announcement about the overnight stay tonight, she was completely unable to remain calm.

The moment she closed her eyes, her mind filled with images of setting up a tent in the middle of nowhere.

She just couldn’t concentrate.

So she gave up on her review and shoved the journal into the very back of her drawer.

The maiden turned, walked over to her bookshelf, and began rummaging through everything.

Soon, she had pulled out several thick tomes.

A Guide to Surviving Forest Terrain, An Analysis of the Nocturnal Habits of Low Tier Demons, Quick Construction of Spells for Outdoor Living...

Any book with a title that could possibly be related to Wilderness Survival was pulled out, not a single one missed.

Just then, Yuna pushed the door open and walked in.

She flopped comfortably onto the soft sofa in the living area, stuffing crispy snacks into her mouth while she watched Cecilia bustle about.

The normally elegant Half-Elf Maiden was now pacing the room, clutching all sorts of thick, academic books.

One moment she was piling a book on a chair, the next she was adding another to a corner of her desk.

She looked just like a busy little squirrel gathering food for the winter.

’Ah, whatever. I’ll just leave her to it.’

Yuna munched happily on her snacks and casually picked up a book that was lying by the sofa.

To prevent Cecilia from discovering she was reading something so indecent,

Yuna had cleverly disguised her copy of The Flirtatious Earl and the Elf Maid with the respectable cover of Basic Water Magic Principles.

With this perfect camouflage, she could openly enjoy the blush-inducing, heart-pounding plot right there in their dorm room.

Meanwhile, Cecilia, sitting at her desk, was now surrounded by towering stacks of books.

She held a quill in her hand, writing things down bit by bit on a blank sheet of scratch paper.

She was trying to alleviate her intense anxiety by listing out her concerns.

"I absolutely cannot let my senior see me looking like a mess!"

The maiden firmly wrote this first, absolute rule on the paper.

But immediately after, a second problem popped into her head.

’What if I drool in my sleep?’

She chewed on her knuckle, her brow furrowed tightly.

’I don’t think my sleeping posture is very good, either. I have a bad habit of kicking off the blankets sometimes...’

As she wrote this, Cecilia suddenly thought of something utterly mortifying and quickly shook her head.

’Cecilia, what on earth are you thinking?!’

She berated herself harshly in her mind.

’You and your senior will obviously be sleeping in two completely separate, individual tents out in the wilderness. How could he possibly see you kick off your blankets!’

Although she managed to convince herself with logic, new worries quickly followed.

’Will my face look awful from being swollen when I first wake up?’

’Are there any special Spell models in these books that can perfectly deal with sweaty clothes and other hygiene issues?’

An endless stream of minor worries, like a fish blowing bubbles, kept filling the clever maiden’s head.

Time slipped by quietly to the rustling sound of the quill on paper.

The moon ambled slowly across the inky sky, eventually setting in the west.

But the Magic Crystal Lamp on the desk shone brightly all night long.

In the quiet room, besides the faint sounds of Cecilia turning pages and writing, the only other noise came from the sofa.

Yuna, completely engrossed in her book, had at some point fallen fast asleep against a pillow.

In her sleep, the girl mumbled lines from the novel.

"My Lord Count, I’m so cold... Hold me..."

A whole night flew by in a flurry of anxious thoughts.

At some unknown hour, Cecilia, who had finally succumbed to exhaustion and fallen asleep, lifted her head from the cluttered desk.

Bright, glaring sunlight was already pouring into the room through the glass window.
