Maeve sat on the edge of her bed, with her elbows on her knees, staring at the floor.

The loose grey pajamas felt too thin. Her hair was still tied in the same ponytail she’d made after the shower.

She kept replaying the last our in fragments. First the nerve agent; him walking into her room without knocking, with a robe hanging open and pillow to his face like a pervert who’s just so casual about everything.

But then the actions of him catching her towel instead of just letting it drop when he had the opportunity of something no man would miss.

Then the living room; the long, unbroken monologue about cholinergic pathways and volatile solvents while sitting in the same open robe, the thumbs-up when she summarized the situation in one sentence and not getting offended when she cut his words off.

And then the conversation she had heard through the door.

Every word...it felt as if he wasn’t a rich heir but an acentric man who is slightly disconnected from the world.

The way he observes, the quiet, and almost polite way of refusing Bishop, when he could’ve easily accepted the support of Bishops for his position.

Maeve pressed her fingers against her temples.

She’d seen many heirs, she even has a messaging group with her friend who’re also assistants to heirs but none of their experiences match hers.

He does not have a concept of nobility in his mind at all.

There are times when he just stares are notice boards in academy, times where he spaces out, but there are also times when he can negate the pressure of Union’s Head, Luca himself, and even make it easy for her to breathe.

Sometimes he’s so charming and hot, sometimes he’s the dumbest person she had ever seen in her life. What is even his deal?

’He’s intelligent,’ she thought. ’But it feels like his survival instincts are that of a...peanut!’

He was also, in her professional opinion...an idiot.

She exhaled slowly.

’How am I supposed to work with someone like this?’ she thought.

’He’s certainly caring compared to other heirs,’ she thought. She was seriously relieved when he rejected the offer otherwise her life would’ve turned Jaggard.

The thought had barely formed when a new sound ripped through the suite.

A raw scream of horrific realization.

"YOU CAN COPY FORCE CONTROL!"

Maeve’s head snapped up.

The voice belonged to the second man. And whatever he had just witnessed was enough to strip any calmness from his tone completely.

"---What?"

Her heart slammed once against her ribs.

She was already on her feet before she consciously decided to move.

Her hand reached out for the door.

Opening the door, she saw a butt-naked man holding a red crystal staff and swinging it like a plaything, while the man in front of him was horrified to his bone.

"Not really...copy. Please, that’s insulting, I just saw how you did it, and built a better version," Marcellus said, casually holding the staff.

The words did not help ease the situation. They in fact...made it worse.

"Your control isn’t the problem, the containment is. When you shift the binding energy to force crystallization, you’re not localizing the effect tightly enough, you’re letting it bleed into the surrounding volume instead of confining it to exactly the mass you need. That’s why the reversion has a delay. You’re not just reforming one staff’s worth of blood, you’re managing however much extra you displaced into a state you never actually wanted a state change in."

"You also don’t measure your input. You clearly don’t know exactly how much liquid you’re committing to the lattice before you commit it, you’re eyeballing volume and letting the technique overcompensate, which is why the weapon’s heavier than it needs to be and the collapse takes longer than it should. Mine’s smaller."

He tapped the staff against his palm; it made a lighter, sharper sound than Kell’s had.

"Same tensile strength, less wasted mass, because I bothered to calculate the volume-to-lattice ratio before I converted anything." He said.

"It’s not a bad technique~ It’s just unrefined. I refined it for you," he said.

Kel...wasn’t listening anymore.

His eyes had gone somewhere past Marcellus entirely, doing frantic math on doorways and consequences...literally. He wanted to run.

’This...this needs to be known...’ he thought.

’The heir of Severans can understand and use other’s force control?’ he thought.

’An information is the key...the key to either the rise... or the nastiest fall of the Severan family!’ he thought.

He looked at Dario once. Dario was almost dead. Even doctors couldn’t save him if they wanted to.

’Fuck him...’ he thought.

Kell bent slightly, and poured all his force into his legs.

*Boom*

With a sudden force, he exploded from the ground, tiles cracked on the area he was standing on.

He shoved past Marcellus, aiming straight for the open suite door and the hallway that lay beyond it.

But...he did not succeed.

Something came off the wall behind Maeve. It made no warning, or no shimmer, or any dramatic build.

A creature half the size of their suite, it’s mass filled the living, the hallway, with Red eyes, no tail, a head built for cracking walls.

"Wait...no-" Kell’s voice broke entirely.

"No---no-please-no, I won’t I won’t say anything of this---" he repeated.

Maeve’s eyes were half-lidded. Her hands pressed lightly together in front of her chest. The lights in the suite seemed to dim around the creature’s bulk.

The creature that was the very epitome of shadows. A bull with a head of hell-hound, with muscular structure that rivalled the Karkadann itself.

"Juggernaut." She spelled that name once, and the creature bit off the upper body of Kell in one single nasty bite.

There was a single, muffled scream that ended almost immediately.

Its massive jaws closed over Kell from the waist up with a wet, final sound of meat and bone giving way.

The sound was obscene, the sharp crack of ribs and spine, the heavy, rhythmic working of jaws.

Blood poured between its teeth in dark sheets.

Pieces of clothing, flesh, and fragmented bone dropped to the floor in wet clumps.

Kell’s legs, still standing for a second out of pure structural inertia, folded and collapsed into the growing pool of red.

The shadows engulfed the body of Kell and Dario, pulling them into their abyssal darkness.

It’s mass folded inward, and sunk back into her own shadow, as if nothing had ever occurred.

Maeve exhaled a deep sigh, and slowly opened her eyes.

In a few seconds, the living room was clean again.

Marcellus was still standing naked in the center of it all, holding crystal staff loose in his hand, and cock still hanging freely.

He looked at her with wide and amazed eyes.

A grin appeared on his face when she finally looked at him.

"Oh..my..goodness," he whispered.

He walked towards her.

"That," he said in a low voice, "was the single most impressive cleanup I have ever witnessed, be honest with me, how long have you been able to do that?"

"That...is my power, so I have been---but first, Young Master, please put on some clothes, you’re naked!" She said.
