The top floor of the academy tower was oddly serene than the rest.

Luca Ferraro sat behind a large black desk with a wall-sized display placed directly in front of him.

The room contained very little furniture. A long shelf embedded in the wall, files arranged in precise order with a dedicated corner for books.

A smaller table stood near the floor-to-ceiling windows with two chairs.

From there, the island of IAA was laid completely bare.

Luca had been watching the same recording for several minutes. Afterall, the first duel of third generation had taken place, and there is no way he would miss it.

The recording captured quite an opening attack. In real life, awakeners give less time to chatting. Duel was a perfect portray of the world of awakeners.

He was impressed by the Pretorias for growing at a rapid pace. The Union did not favour any country. That was also the reason why despite being a part of Austerity, the union stays neutral of any factions, while still holding its dominance.

Some of the techniques Rafe used were the ones head of Pretorias has conjured himself, a top hundred ranked awakener on a global level.

But then...the image showed Marcellus.

He again looked at the file of Severan’s heir. Age eighteen, classification support, unranked, nothing that considerably stood out.

Yet the same child had resisted his force, or rather found a way for it to pass through without any resistance. He was impressed, since it was a feat worth noting, but there are exceptions in the world of awakeners, he considered Marcellus one such exception and brushed the moment off.

He returned to the recording, and the fight continued.

Marcellus took the first strike, then another, and then he used a power, completely unrelated to Severans. A power that dealt in raw vibrations in the surroundings.

It was odd, and it looked like a desperate measure of retaliation in a battle.

And it was certainly not in his profile.

"It seems that Severan’s heir had taken measures and not revealed his powers during evaluation," A woman’s voice came from behind him.

"Because the academy did not know he could...use such powers," she said.

She wore a dark formal suit with a white shirt; her hair was tied behind her head and a tablet rested in her left hand. Seren Veyra, executive of Union, and Luca’s manager.

Luca continued watching the recording. Rafe’s final attack began, the arena began rising, and engulfed Marcellus in an orb of debris.

And then...it appeared as if Rafe had no control over his powers.

"Odd..." he murmured.

’Could that suggest Marcellus can stop others from using their powers? Is that his power?’ Luca thought.

A person can only learn a specific type of force control. One with lightning element can only conjure different types of powers derived from lightning. One with earth can conjure those derived from earth. Similarly fire, water, poison, gravity, acceleration, shadow, and whatnot.

Every person follows one ’Segment’ of power, since their force control would fall under that specific segment.

"Odd indeed," Seren murmured.

Marcellus had used a power related to frequency first, then he had used something related to stopping the core.

’Frequency...’ Luca thought.

’Maybe his powers are related to frequency, it figures how he can stop others by disrupting their force control, right. That is impressive,’ Luca thought.

He thought he had figured out Marcellus’s powers until...the pink petals emerged.

Petals that looked so beautiful even through the screen, and then they surrounded Rafe like a storm, shivered in screams, tearing him apart, and then...there was an explosion so disastrous that it shook the arena, and even disrupted the surveillance.

"..." Luca was speechless.

"Still...frequency, I guess," He murmured.

"That is a rather large interpretation of frequence based powers. I personally doubt that." Seren replied.

"Because if it really is frequency, how did he create visually alluring petals?" she questioned his conclusion.

"Right..." There was silence for moments.

"What was his classification again?" Luca asked.

"Support," Seren replied.

And then they both stared at the torn arena.

"..."

"..."

"Of course." Luca murmured.

.-.-.-.-.-.

The cliff was just behind the tower of IAA. Past the tree line, where the mountain dropped straight into fog.

The ledge. That’s what the Bishop called this place. A place he had picked, like a backroom for whenever he desires serenity.

Long ash grey hair tied neatly in a tail, moving with the wind in waves. Dark grey eyes with dilated pupils.

He was tall, long limbed, and thin or his height.

The man kneeling in front of him had stopped speaking. A man with striking black hair, wearing dark violet blazer of the academy. He was Dante.

"Say it again," Bishop said, calmly. "I want to make sure I understood you the first time before I decide how angry to be about it...honestly, I’m sort of numb with rage. I don’t know how to process it."

"He’s...not a support type," Dante repeated. "Marcellus."

"Ah- That does seem like a problem," Kaelo Bishop nodded.

"But, I never asked for you to find that out," he added.

"I thought a slight win like this could be ple-"

"Ha!" Kaelo scoffed.

"You thought? You do that?" Kaelo interrupted.

"What do you think this is? A fantasy novel? A fucking story about a character’s heroic acts? What...what does this make us?" Kaelo leaned in.

"I mean, I sent for the woman, I got two of my men dead, and now a subordinate of mine...you...just had to push your goon to a duel with Marcellus, only for it to be a tie, raising his stakes in the rankings, elevating his position....wh—what is this? I feel like I’m the stepping stone in someone else’s story, are you a fucking idiot?" Kaelo scoffed.

Dante lowered his head.

"I apologize," he murmured.

Kaelo stared at him for a few seconds.

Then he laughed for a brief moment.

"Don’t," Kaelo said.

"?" Dante raised his eyes.

Kaelo leaned back on a massive stone just beside the cliff.

"Its... the whole situation is hilarious." Kaelo murmured to himself. "Seriously, if you just wanted yourself to only be a stepping stone, you could’ve sent unranked cadets first, let him win, get strong, and then bust your fucking ass to the depths of hell with some sassy dialogues, oh my god, I feel like I could be a great author if I wanted to,"

"With this story I could’ve gained several braindead readers, fucking fatsos with nothing on mind and reading a shit story, make it fucking interesting atleast!" Kaelo spread his arms.

"Because of you, Severan is going to be reassessed, it’s not just the academy, but his own family itself that’ll protect him, because...Now. He. Is. A. Combatant!" Kaelo said.

"His visibility will rise, his reputation will be different, and the only person who I considered a hurdle to get Maeve is now the biggest wall covering her, how can you be so fucking dumb!" He growled.

"He’s no longer easy to remove," Kaelo concluded.

"..." Dante stayed silent.

He knew better than anyone of how Kaelo really is.

Every woman that Kaelo had ever had, died the most gruesome death. He does not want them because he loves them, no, he sees them as playthings. And what interests him more are those he cannot possess.

Kaelo was known to be a controlled psychopath. He’s not someone who really plans things out. He’s adaptive to situations, and that’s what makes him more dangerous.

"I don’t think you should do anything more to make this situation worse." Kaelo put a hand on Dante’s head, and gave it a slight pat.

"Just...stay put."

"This isn’t the right direction."
