In terms of legal affairs, Mo Kai only knew Xia Tian through Nan Zhubin.

And Xia Tian’s connection—was very strong.

"Sister Xia Tian gathered some of their classmates and a few even have their names on my company’s roster."

"Although they say it’s just for practice, I know they have consulted their senior alumni and even professors for a lot of work..." Mo Kai rubbed his hands together.

Mo Kai started the company for his own practice; the students from Political and Legal University also joined for practice.

But just like Mo Kai has his father’s professional team backing him up, the Political and Legal University’s postgraduate students have support as well.

Some of these people, when they intervene, are no less professional than Mo Kai’s father’s team.

"Likewise, we spent a small amount of money to achieve bigger things, so I was thinking, could we somehow—express extra gratitude to these senior alumni?" Mo Kai said.

This was to consolidate the network.

"But the things I’ve learned... maybe they’re more social, so I was thinking if I could invite Sister Xia Tian for a dinner to ask her opinion, avoiding any taboos in the college."

He considered it quite thoroughly.

Even considered the misunderstanding that a solo dinner with Xia Tian might cause.

A few close co-workers could catch bits of their conversation and couldn’t help but turn their heads to look.

They knew Mo Kai’s family was strong. But Mo Kai usually acted low-key, and the postgraduates carried some intellectual pride, so there usually wasn’t much going on in their interactions.

But now—this guy said he started his own company and invited a professional team from Political and Legal University?

Some senior girls began to look at Mo Kai with emotions, their enthusiasm even surpassing Nan Zhubin’s.

Nan Zhubin thought for a moment: "...Okay, what time? Where to?"

"That’s the problem." Mo Kai’s eyes sparkled, "Senior, what does Sister Xia Tian like to eat?"

"..."

While Nan Zhubin and Mo Kai were discussing.

A short distance away, at a workstation, Shi Qianqian withdrew her gaze from Mo Kai and Nan Zhubin, not intervening.

She picked up a cup from the table, took a sip of water, then stood and stopped in front of another workstation.

The fellow student who had worn a blue tie during the first group meeting had changed to a green tie today, still showing a formal appearance.

But contrasting to his attire, his whole demeanor showed a fatigue akin to pulling an all-nighter, appearing exhausted.

The computer screen in front of him was lit, displaying an English paper, with an open notebook beside it, but only three lines were written, leaving the rest blank.

The Blue Tie kept his posture, staring intently at the computer screen, not moving for almost a minute.

Shi Qianqian stood behind him for quite a while without making a sound.

The Blue Tie sensed someone behind him, turned his head, and was surprised to see Shi Qianqian, "Senior... what’s up?"

Shi Qianqian looked at him, her gaze shifting from the computer screen to the notebook page, then back: "How long have you been reading this document?"

The Blue Tie’s lips moved slightly, but he didn’t answer immediately.

"I saw you looking at it last week," Shi Qianqian’s voice was low, "A week has passed, have you finished it?"

The Blue Tie lowered his head, his gaze fell on the blank part of the notebook: "...Not finished yet, I wanted to try without using translation software... see if I can chew through this paper."

The word count of an English document isn’t insignificant, but it isn’t that much either. Shi Qianqian glanced at the bottom right of the Blue Tie’s computer screen; there weren’t many pages, and even without translation software, one could finish it by reading word by word over a week.

It seemed like an excuse.

But Shi Qianqian didn’t debunk it, just said: "It’s not necessary. The main purpose of reading literature is to understand the research ideas, including how they discover problems, design experiments, and the related data analysis process, got it?"

"The reason to read English literature is partly because professional development outside is currently faster than domestically; on the other hand, domestic journal review periods are too long, so publishing in foreign English journals yields faster results. Do you understand?"

The Blue Tie nodded shyly.

"So the main thing is to expand the specialization idea, and English reading ability is relatively secondary," Shi Qianqian concluded.

"If you have time, read more articles. As you read more, your English reading ability will naturally improve."

Saying this, Shi Qianqian glanced at Nan Zhubin, then with a pointed tone said: "Everyone has their own learning pace, don’t be influenced by others."

"...Okay, Senior."

Having said that, Shi Qianqian nodded and finally said: "Although the teacher is lenient with our requirements, you have ideas and ambition. If you have any problems usually, reach out to me or other senior alumni in time."

"Don’t be shy, everyone starts from scratch. And learning—especially research—progresses through communication."

If Bai Qinghua peeked out from the gaming room at this moment, he would certainly be astonished to find Shi Qianqian embodying Weng Pinting.

"Also... take care of your health, you obviously didn’t sleep well." Shi Qianqian added.

The Blue Tie’s ears turned slightly red: "Okay, Senior... thank you, Senior!"

Having said enough, Shi Qianqian turned and left. The Blue Tie slapped his face hard to refresh himself, then focused back on the screen in front of him.

The office became silent again.

-----------------

In the evening, at 6:30.

With Nan Zhubin speaking up, Xia Tian almost immediately accepted the dinner invitation.

Considering the weather, Mo Kai chose a Jiangsu-Zhejiang restaurant within the CBD, accessible by metro, and the route from Political and Legal University to the dining location was virtually covered by air conditioning. Plus, there weren’t many people during the week, offering the greatest convenience for Xia Tian’s travel.

The air carried a faint aroma of yellow rice wine mixed with plum vegetables.

When Xia Tian arrived, Mo Kai and Nan Zhubin had already seated themselves by the window. Nan Zhubin was looking down at the menu.

"Sister Xia Tian! Over here, over here!" Mo Kai waved.

Looking down, Nan Zhubin sensed a sunflower mixed with orange scent enveloping his nasal cavity.

When he lifted his head, his vision seemed to brighten and expand.

Xia Tian wore a light gray linen cardigan over a white T-shirt and a blue pleated skirt below.

"Hello, long time no see." Xia Tian addressed Mo Kai with this sentence.

Then she turned her head to Nan Zhubin, smiling.

After a two-second pause, Mo Kai coughed: "I had Senior order a few dishes first... take a look and see if there’s anything else you’d like to have."

Xia Tian took it, the corner of her mouth rising slightly again: "This is enough, I don’t need to add anything."

She pushed the menu back to Mo Kai: "You should be a regular at this place, pick something. Too much and we won’t finish it."

"Not really, I was waiting for you." Mo Kai quickly handed back the menu.

Xia Tian took the menu, flipped through it briefly, then closed it: "You two go ahead and order, I’m alright with anything."

"Alright." Mo Kai said.

He made another mark on the menu, then quietly said something to the waitress he called over.

Mo Kai then looked beside him. He and Nan Zhubin sat together, Xia Tian was across from them.

For some reason, these two didn’t speak. As a result, Mo Kai felt embarrassed to speak up either.

Time quickly passed in silence, gazes, and smiles. Luckily, Nan Zhubin had ordered dishes early, and given Mo Kai was familiar with the kitchen, the dishes were served quickly.

The dishes included Longjing shrimp, stir-fried seasonal vegetables, snow vegetable and bamboo shoot soup, as well as three portions of scallion oil noodles, and a plate of osmanthus sugar lotus root.

Mo Kai lightly coughed, looking at the somewhat entranced Xia Tian.

"Sister Xia Tian." He started, "The main reason for today’s dinner is to thank you."
