Why Are the Psychos Obsessed with a Mere NPC?
Chapter 156 - 146: AuditoriumJian Yu felt as if her spirit had been drained away. She lay in bed for two whole days.
That was until the Qin Family applied for a kinship test to claim her as their daughter, using public opinion to pressure the academy.
Jian Yu was a little stunned. "Are they that sure I’m a member of the Qin Family?"
Xi Yu hugged her, kissing her over and over, and started a countdown. "Two more days."
Pei Yin paused, then pressed, "Two days for what?"
Jian Yu’s gaze shifted away, her face flushing slightly.
Xi Yu, lost in their affectionate moment, didn’t bother to explain.
’He had no intention of letting Pei Yin cut in line.’
Ling Yanzhi glanced at the time and said sarcastically, "The Qin Family is as classless as ever."
He raised an eyebrow, his expression filled with derision.
Jian Yu asked hesitantly, "Shouldn’t we do something about it?"
Ling Yanzhi put the necklace on Jian Yu, gently squeezing her earlobe twice with his fingers.
"Shen Gu is already compiling the information. Lin Yu will issue an official clarification through the academy."
Feeling the warmth that lingered on her ear, Jian Yu found her eyes darting to Ling Yanzhi again and again.
Her large, lively eyes looked full of spirit.
Ling Yanzhi leaned down and kissed the corner of her lips. "We didn’t get to have our fun the other day. We can continue today."
Pei Yin chimed in, "The livestream from the other day is trending again. District 13 was already a hot topic, but then you went and performed a one-hundred-percent voluntary Contract. You’re making everyone green with envy."
Xi Yu said sullenly, "The Alliance threw a bunch of people at me. They all want my baby to help them form Contracts."
Jian Yu turned, letting her momentum carry her back so she was leaning lightly against Ling Yanzhi’s chest.
She looked at Xi Yu’s annoyed expression and softened her tone. "A lot of people?"
"Ten. That’s a lot." Xi Yu stood up, leaned over, and buried his face in the crook of Jian Yu’s neck. "I refused them all."
Pei Yin rolled his eyes. "I knew the Alliance was full of it, but I didn’t expect them to try and dump ten people on you just like that."
Pinned between two people, Jian Yu couldn’t move easily.
She stroked Xi Yu’s hair and gave the back of his neck a reassuring squeeze. "It’s fine that you refused. My ability probably isn’t strong enough to help them form Contracts right now anyway."
Xi Yu’s eyes narrowed as he praised her unconditionally. "Baby’s ability is very strong. I was the one who didn’t want to agree."
Jian Yu pressed her lips together. "If possible, I’d like to choose for myself. I don’t mind if they’re from the Alliance."
Ling Yanzhi chuckled and pushed Xi Yu’s head away. "No one is forcing you."
They just didn’t want to use their privilege to strong-arm others, and they rarely had occasion to use it anyway.
But that didn’t mean they were willing to tolerate the Alliance’s unreasonable demands.
Pei Yin felt unable to break into their intimate circle. It was a painful sight, and a bitter feeling of jealousy washed over him, leaving him looking weary.
Since he was miserable, he didn’t want anyone else to be happy either. "I heard Duan Fei is going to pursue you, too?"
The rumor about Duan Fei had spread the very same day.
It just hadn’t generated as much buzz as the news of Jian Yu helping an F-level Spiritual Power User form a Contract with an A Rank Green Spider Ant.
Xi Yu’s mind was completely occupied with the two-day countdown, so he didn’t react.
Ling Yanzhi’s brow furrowed. He tugged at his collar, revealing a sliver of his well-defined collarbone.
Jian Yu’s gaze was instantly drawn to it.
Her eyes were wide, and as she raised her gaze slightly, she saw the dark, triumphant glee in Ling Yanzhi’s eyes.
’A sharp gaze, a wild gesture, a sexy collarbone... Very nice. He really knows how to get to me.’
Jian Yu blinked, then looked down and found his hand.
She slid her fingers between his, lacing them together tightly.
Jian Yu lifted their joined hands and kissed the back of his.
She widened her eyes, looking up to see his reaction. Just as she expected, Ling Yanzhi’s ears were bright red.
His expression didn’t change much, but he bent down, cupped the back of her head, and gave her a deep kiss.
The urge to kiss her was purely instinctual, tinged with anticipation and aggression.
"Hey! Is anyone even listening to me?" Pei Yin shot up from his seat, annoyed. His tall frame cast a shadow over them.
A fine silver chain hung from the hem of his shirt, glinting as it swayed with his movement.
Jian Yu cleared her throat. "I didn’t agree."
Pei Yin huffed, his jealousy palpable. "Whether you agree or not doesn’t affect me. It’s not like it’ll be my turn anyway."
He added out of the blue, "And then there’s that guy, Ji Shiyin. You held his Soul Beast, and it’s all over the forums."
As these unpleasant topics were brought up one after another, Ling Yanzhi found it impossible to ignore them.
The very air around him grew heavy.
Xi Yu thrust Yang Zhang into Jian Yu’s arms, his eyes showing a hint of obsession. "Hold mine."
Jian Yu looked down, stroking Yang Zhang’s head with her fingertip.
Sensing its nervousness, she gently tugged one of its tentacles and soothed, "You’re very cute."
Yang Zhang’s eight tentacles stretched out, its black body slowly turning pink.
It had a small apple nestled on its belly. It brandished its tentacles, grabbed the apple, and offered it to Jian Yu.
Ignoring the odd texture in her hands, Jian Yu felt like she was holding a gelatinous octopus.
She lifted it up in surprise for a better look. ’It really is kind of cute now,’ she thought.
Pei Yin watched, exasperated. "It’s getting late. We should get going."
The group slowly made their way to the Beast Taming Arena and headed to their respective competition grounds.
Jian Yu politely declined the offer to watch the matches from the main platform, following Shen Gu to the other competition zones instead.
After helping the Dean and Shen Yinhong, only her black smoke ability had yet to be triggered.
Her Awakening was happening too slowly. Jian Yu wanted to see if helping one more person form a Contract would speed things up.
Once they were out of Ling Yanzhi’s line of sight, Shen Gu’s tense posture relaxed.
"Did you see the announcement? Senior Lin Yu has already taken care of the Qin Family situation."
Jian Yu opened her Star Brain. "I haven’t seen it yet."
The bulletin was posted quickly. The Qin Family had been floored by a surgical report stating that Shen Qing had undergone a hysterectomy.
The satisfying takedown Jian Yu had been hoping for never happened; she didn’t even have to show up in person.
’Novels really are fake,’ she thought. ’Truly powerful people don’t even need to show up to set the record straight.’
The Qin Family had shamefacedly issued an apology, paid the academy a huge sum for reputational damages, and even taken the blame, claiming that Qin Xianzhao’s death had nothing to do with the academy.
Jian Yu closed her Star Brain and looked around. Shi Zhao had said he would arrive today, but she wasn’t sure if he was here.
"Are you looking for my cousin?" Shen Gu asked, seeing her searching. He explained before she could ask, "She went to the auditorium to fulfill a vow."
Shen Gu said happily, "The auditorium opens to the public the day after the new students finish their prayers. I took her to pray there once, and she felt it was very effective, so she wanted to go chant there one last time before leaving."
Jian Yu stopped in her tracks.
The words from the love letter surfaced in her mind:
My baby knows I’m in the auditorium, so why won’t you come in?
I miss my baby to death. I can’t help but go insane when I think about how they’ve all had a taste of you.
Please, baby, come find me, won’t you?
Won’t my baby come to the auditorium and find me on her own?
Jian Yu shook her head but remained rooted to the spot.
’How could I possibly connect a pervert with Si Xu?’
’A person as noble and pure as a clear breeze and bright moon, like a divine angel.’
A pang of guilt shot through Jian Yu.
Shen Gu saw Jian Yu tap her chest with her finger, then press her palms together in a prayer-like gesture.
He asked hesitantly, "Do you want to go to the auditorium too, Yu?"
He pointed to a nearby exit. "If you want to go, we can leave from there. It’s the fastest way to the auditorium."
"Oh no," Shen Gu suddenly exclaimed. "It looks like my cousin’s in trouble. She’s telling me to come over. Yu, do you want to come with me?"
Jian Yu opened her mouth to speak, but caught sight of a Yuge perched nearby out of the corner of her eye.
That strange feeling washed over her again, and a desire for adventure began to stir.
Shen Gu didn’t have time to say more. "Someone is trying to steal the Green Spider Ant. I have to go now."
Jian Yu didn’t hesitate any longer. "I’ll go with you."
’I put my own energy into helping form that Contract,’ she thought. ’I can’t just stand by and do nothing.’
Stealing a Green Spider Ant would require severing its Contract bond.
Shen Yinhong wouldn’t be foolish enough to dissolve the Contract herself.
To dare to steal something at Weis Lan, the thief must have a powerful background.
