Sheng Yue looked up, his cold gaze sweeping around.

The cacophony died down instantly. Everyone straightened up, their expressions serious and unsmiling.

Sheng Yue rose slowly. "I’m going to the command room."

"Alright." Jian Yu nodded, a beat behind.

Given the ambiguous nature of their relationship, he didn’t really need to report his movements to her.

But since he had taken the initiative to say something, Jian Yu couldn’t very well pretend not to hear.

Compared to Xi Yu and the others, Sheng Yue’s reaction was somewhat cold.

’In the past, she definitely would have overthought it. Was she just being delusional again?’

But now, Jian Yu just felt that Sheng Yue probably moved at his own pace, and she didn’t want to rush past the subtle boundary between them just yet.

Sheng Yue took a few steps away, then abruptly turned back.

He was roughly holding a small blood leopard. "Could I trouble you to look after Yin Jiu for a bit?"

"Of course." A faint light sparked in Jian Yu’s eyes. Her large, round eyes blinked twice as she nodded.

Sheng Yue held it with one hand and supported it with the other, presenting it with both hands. ’So coquettish,’ he thought.

Yin Jiu’s eyes widened. It shyly splayed its claws, revealing the pink pads underneath.

It wiggled its furry body and took the initiative. "The Little Flying Bear is my friend," it said. "He told me you’ve held him before."

"Yes... twice," Jian Yu admitted, looking into Yin Jiu’s glistening blue eyes. The little beast looked like a cat that had been caught by the scruff of its neck.

She explained hesitantly, "The Little Flying Bear wasn’t feeling well that day."

Yin Jiu turned its head away. ’That hateful Little Useless Bear! She held him twice!’

Yin Jiu vented its frustration by clawing at the empty air.

Sheng Yue glanced at the Soul Beast, still half an arm’s length away. ’Is that sickeningly sweet act of yours for real?’

Ignoring the negative feedback, Yin Jiu decisively kicked its legs and lunged for Jian Yu.

Jian Yu instinctively caught Yin Jiu.

She looked up toward Sheng Yue, but his figure flickered and vanished with a few flashes of Instant Teleportation.

His voice lingered in the air. "Sorry for the trouble."

"..." Yin Jiu tilted its head back, whimpering. The words it had so carefully prepared were stuck in its throat.

"Are you not feeling well, too?" Jian Yu asked, lifting the creature and giving it an easy out.

"Mmm~" Yin Jiu’s eyes darted around. It shakily stood up, then flopped back down weakly. "Not feeling well."

Jian Yu placed her fingers on its back, stroking the long, snow-white fur along its spine.

A faint, orchid-scented mist seeped through Yin Jiu’s fur to its skin.

Yin Jiu’s eyes narrowed in pleasure. Its body seemed to grow a size larger as it stretched lazily, its warm form snuggling into Jian Yu’s embrace.

Its eyes darted back and forth, fixated on Jian Yu’s ponytail.

Jian Yu adjusted it in her arms, feeling as if she were holding an aloof, long-haired cat.

’The snow-white leopard ears made her unconsciously recall Sheng Yue’s two seemingly unintentional acts of seduction.’

’The sheer undershirt beneath his uniform, the beast ears faintly visible in the dimness of the night, and that restrained, self-controlled invitation in the library...’

Jian Yu gently rubbed Yin Jiu’s ear and whispered, "Is there something you want to tell me?"

Yin Jiu’s ears twitched. It responded in an equally quiet whisper, "Master likes you."

"Mm-hm." Jian Yu’s fingers didn’t pause as she happily scratched Yin Jiu’s chin.

"I know."

Those two words left Yin Jiu stunned, its eyes welling up with tears.

It stopped wagging its tail, deliberately going limp as it shifted its soft body closer to Jian Yu’s heart.

It carefully pressed a paw against her chest and looked up with pleading eyes. "Then... Darling, can you like my master a little, too?"

Jian Yu didn’t answer.

’Whether she nodded or agreed out loud, Sheng Yue would know through Yin Jiu.’

Jian Yu gazed out at the sky beyond the Starship for a moment.

She lifted Yin Jiu, looking into its beautiful blue eyes. A faint, ambiguous smile played on her lips as she said, her reference deliberately unclear, "I could like *you*."

Yin Jiu’s form grew another size larger. Its tail coiled around Jian Yu’s wrist, and it looked at her shyly. "I like Darling, too."

’As for Master, he can go cry about it.’

Someone nearby, confident in their high Level, overheard the exchange and muttered, "Making your Soul Beast confess for you? Pathetic."

Yin Jiu’s ears drooped, perked up, and then drooped again as it pretended not to hear.

「Command Room」

Sheng Yue leaned back in his chair, eyes closed and lips pursed. Through his Soul Beast, he savored every detail of Jian Yu’s touch.

He bit down lightly on his tightly pursed lips, a glisten of moisture appearing on their surface. A spot of deep red marked the faint imprint of his teeth.

"I could like *you*."

Those few ambiguous words broadcast from the standard-issue equipment.

The miniature tracker, originally intended for location tracking to prevent students from going missing, had clearly recorded Jian Yu’s words and was now playing them on a loop.

Sheng Yue’s eyes snapped open, his gaze hazy as he stared at the ceiling.

A suppressed gasp escaped him, the puff of hot air blurring his vision.

...

The Starship entered deep space. A lazy atmosphere began to spread, and the rhythmic sound of slumber rose and fell throughout the cabin.

Yin Jiu’s eyes were half-closed as it quietly let Jian Yu stroke its fur.

It was so content it felt like bubbles were coming out of its nose, and its bones seemed to have melted into jelly.

They had departed at 8:30 in the morning; two hours had now passed.

They were getting closer and closer to the Beast Forest.

Jian Yu’s gaze wandered, settling on everyone’s attire.

Worried it might be rude, she hadn’t really dared to stare at anyone before.

Now that she took a proper look, she realized many people’s outfits were far more comfortable than she’d imagined—not much different from casual wear.

Most of the boys wore practical, form-fitting gear, with the academy insignia pinned to their chests. The look was clean and efficient.

What surprised Jian Yu was the girls. Many wore short skirts paired with tall boots, looking as if they were just heading out for a day of fun.

Jian Yu glanced down, her eyes falling on her own white boots.

’She guessed that the other girls’ outfits must have some sort of defensive properties as well.’

An electronic announcement echoed through the Starship’s interior.

"Attention. Entry into the Beast Forest region, codenamed Ultimate Eye, in two minutes. All personnel, please check your weapons, locators, energy supplements, Beast Crystals, and other provisions. Prepare for entry."

Jian Yu’s things were all in her Space Ring, so it was unlikely she’d forgotten anything.

Pei Yin, worried that keeping everything in one place wasn’t safe, had even helped her divide her supplies into three separate sets.

The students around her began organizing their gear. Most of them seemed to be using some kind of compression pack.

’She’d looked them up before. They cost anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand Star Coins on the open market.’

They looked like ordinary backpacks and weren’t very large, but their internal storage capacity was the size of a standard wardrobe.

’People always said Space Rings were incredibly rare. But several people she knew had one, which had almost made her forget just how precious they were.’

The Starship landed.

The one hundred fifty students were divided into ten squads, each led by a professor from their respective departments.

"You all know the mission. I’ll be providing mobile support this time, rotating between the squads to provide covert protection."

Sheng Yue stood at the center of the clearing, the vast Beast Forest looming over them.

Sunlight filtered down in sparse patches, casting his figure in a cold, lonely light.

"If you encounter danger, send a distress signal immediately."

Someone raised a hand. "President, aside from the Beast Crystals required for the mission, if we find other things we want, can we take them?"

For example, Beast Plants, Beast Fruits, meteoric Crystal Stones, or maybe even a relatively docile Beast Pet...

Sheng Yue’s voice was glacial. "Stick close to your assigned professor. Leaving the squad is strictly forbidden, as is entering dangerous zones without authorization. Other than that, I have no requirements."

Jian Yu lifted her gaze, her eyes sweeping over Sheng Yue’s tightly pressed lips.

His blue eyes were focused but held no warmth. His tall, powerful frame, combined with the indifference in his voice, gave him an air of stark, solitary self-reliance.
