Chapter 56
.
.
Teahyun sat behind his desk, his posture composed yet deceptively relaxed, as though the weight of the entire company resting on his shoulders meant nothing to him.
The office was silent except for the faint rustle of paper as he flipped through a stack of documents, his sharp eyes scanning every line with precise attention. A sleek pen twirled between his fingers in a smooth, practiced motion, the small movement the only sign that he wasn’t entirely still.
Anyone who didn’t know him would think he was calm.
Anyone who did know him understood that this was simply how he operated—quiet, controlled, and always thinking several steps ahead.
The silence broke when the door opened.
Teahyun didn’t look up immediately. He didn’t need to. The sound alone was enough to tell him who it was. Still, after a brief pause, his gaze lifted lazily, landing on the figure who had just stepped inside.
Ann.
Her hair was tied neatly into a bun, her expression composed and professional as always. She closed the door behind her before stepping forward, her heels clicking softly against the polished floor.
"Mr. Lu would like to see you," she said.
Teahyun’s pen stopped mid-spin before dropping lightly onto the documents in front of him. He leaned back in his chair slightly, his expression unreadable as he considered the request. There was no surprise in his eyes—only mild curiosity.
"Let him in," he said, gesturing faintly with his hand.
Ann nodded once and turned to leave, closing the door behind her with quiet efficiency.
A few moments later, the door opened again.
This time, Lu Feng walked in.
His presence filled the room immediately, the kind of quiet dominance that most Alphas carried without effort. His hands were tucked into his pockets, his posture straight, his gaze sharp as it settled on Teahyun. There was tension in the way he moved, though he tried to mask it beneath control.
Teahyun noticed.
He always noticed.
"Can I sit?" Lu Feng asked, glancing toward the sofa beside the desk.
Teahyun tilted his head slightly before nodding. "Of course," he said smoothly. "What kind of host would I be if I let my guest stand?"
Lu Feng sat, his movements measured, but the tension in his shoulders didn’t ease.
Then silence followed.
Teahyun made no effort to break it.
Instead, he picked up his pen again and returned to his work, as though Lu Feng’s presence in the room was insignificant. The only sound was the faint scratch of ink against paper as he signed a document, then another, his focus unwavering.
Minutes passed.
Lu Feng remained seated, his gaze drifting around the office, observing everything—the minimalistic design, the clean lines, the lack of clutter. It reflected Teahyun perfectly: controlled, deliberate, and impossible to read.
And still, Teahyun ignored him.
The deliberate indifference was enough to irritate even the most composed person.
Eventually, Lu Feng spoke.
"Do you know who Shen Yu is, Mr. Kim?"
Teahyun’s pen paused again.
Slowly, he lifted his gaze, leaning back slightly in his chair. A faint smile curved his lips, though it didn’t reach his eyes.
"I don’t recall any business strategy, company, or technology by that name," he replied calmly.
Lu Feng let out a quiet chuckle. "You’re avoiding the question."
"I’m answering exactly what you asked."
"I didn’t come here to talk about business," Lu Feng said, his tone sharpening slightly. "So don’t pretend."
Teahyun’s smile widened just a fraction, his dark eyes remaining completely unreadable.
"Is that so?" he murmured.
Lu Feng stood, stepping closer until he reached the desk. He placed both hands against it and leaned forward, his presence pressing into the space between them as he stared directly at Teahyun.
"I think you know exactly what I’m talking about."
Teahyun didn’t move immediately. Then, slowly, he set his pen down and stood up from his chair, his movements unhurried. He walked around the desk with quiet confidence until he stood directly in front of Lu Feng, close enough that the tension between them became tangible.
"If we’re speaking plainly," Teahyun said, "then yes—I know Shen Yu."
Lu Feng’s eyes narrowed slightly.
"Then let me make this simple," he said. "He has something that belongs to me."
Teahyun raised a brow.
"And I’m going to take it back."
For a brief moment, silence filled the room again.
Then Teahyun let out a soft, almost amused breath.
"And how," he asked, his tone calm but edged with something sharper, "does that concern me?"
Lu Feng frowned. "Isn’t he your brother?"
Teahyun tilted his head slightly, studying him.
"Is he?" he asked.
The question wasn’t defensive. It wasn’t even serious.
It was unsettling.
Lu Feng felt it immediately—the shift in the atmosphere, the subtle realization that he wasn’t in control of this conversation. Teahyun wasn’t reacting the way he expected. If anything, he seemed entertained.
Teahyun turned away, walking back toward the desk before pouring himself a glass of whiskey with slow, deliberate movements.
"Honestly," he said, taking a sip, "I expected more from you."
Lu Feng’s jaw tightened. "What is that supposed to mean?"
"The rumors," Teahyun replied casually. "They made you sound far more dangerous than this."
Lu Feng exhaled sharply, irritation flickering across his face.
"You hesitate too much," Teahyun continued. "You think too loudly. It’s written all over your face."
The words were blunt, but they landed exactly where intended.
Lu Feng pinched the bridge of his nose before straightening again.
"Shen Yu has something that belongs to me," he repeated, his voice more controlled now. "And you’re the only one who can help me get it back."
Teahyun turned slightly, the glass still in his hand.
"Oh?" he said. "And what exactly is that?"
Without a word, Lu Feng reached into his pocket and pulled out a photograph. He stepped forward and placed it on the desk.
"Jiang Li."
Teahyun’s gaze dropped to the image.
It showed Jiang Li sitting beside Shen Yu, holding a cup of bright blue bubblegum ice cream. His expression was soft, his eyes fixed on Shen Yu with quiet affection. Shen Yu, meanwhile, stood beside him, looking up at the stars, unaware of the way he was being watched.
It was an ordinary moment.
But it didn’t feel ordinary.
It felt intimate.
Real.
Teahyun studied the photo longer than expected before looking back up.
"They look happy," he said.
Lu Feng’s expression hardened. "They fought."
"And?"
"I want him," Lu Feng said plainly. "I need you to distract Shen Yu so I can take Jiang Li."
The room fell silent again.
Teahyun set the glass down slowly.
"So," he said, "you’ve been stalking them."
Lu Feng didn’t respond.
Teahyun’s gaze sharpened slightly. "That’s already your first mistake."
Lu Feng frowned. "What do you mean?"
"For someone who claims to want him," Teahyun said, "you don’t know nearly enough."
He stepped closer again, his voice lowering just slightly.
"Jiang Li is pregnant."
Lu Feng froze.
The reaction was immediate, undeniable.
"And I doubt," Teahyun continued, watching him closely, "you’re interested in raising another Alpha’s child."
Lu Feng’s composure cracked for the first time, shock flashing across his face.
"And if you had done your job properly," Teahyun added, "you would already know they’ve made up."
Lu Feng stared at him. "How do you know all of this?"
Teahyun smiled.
That same unsettling, knowing smile.
"You’re not the first person to come to me with this kind of request," he said.
The implication settled heavily between them.
"And you won’t be the last."
Lu Feng’s jaw tightened again, but this time he didn’t speak.
Because now he understood.
This wasn’t a negotiation.
It never was.
Teahyun stepped back, picking up his documents again as though the conversation had already ended.
"People like you," he said calmly, "are easy to read."
Lu Feng’s hands curled slightly at his sides.
"You see something you want," Teahyun continued, "and you convince yourself it belongs to you."
His gaze lifted once more, sharp and final.
"But Jiang Li isn’t something you can take."
The words carried weight.
"And Shen Yu," he added, "is not someone you can outplay."
Silence filled the room.
Heavy.
Unavoidable.
Then Teahyun turned away completely, dismissing him without another glance.
"If you’re done," he said, "you can leave."
Lu Feng stood there for a moment longer before finally turning toward the door.
But just as he reached for the handle—
"Oh, and Mr. Lu?"
He paused.
Teahyun didn’t look at him when he spoke.
"If you go near Jiang Li again," he said quietly, "you won’t have to worry about Shen Yu."
A brief silence followed.
"Because you’ll be dealing with them."
Lu Feng didn’t respond.
He simply left.
And this time, the silence he left behind felt far heavier than the one he had walked into.
