"Is that so? What did he give you, then? Let me see. I want to know if he put any real thought into it."

Shen Meng hesitated for a moment before saying, "There’s no need. It’s just a small trinket."

Heh...

Wu Min raised her wrist again. "Even a small trinket can show his heart. Look, Wang Hua got me this watch—it’s worth 11,000. Let me take it off so you can try it. Maybe it’ll show Yang Hui how other people’s boyfriends do things. If he’s still so stingy while trying to woo my cousin, I won’t approve."

Shen Meng chuckled. "Why would he need your approval to date me? As long as I say yes, that’s all that matters."

Wu Min had already taken off her rose gold Longines watch and offered it to Shen Meng. When Shen Meng refused, she was instantly displeased. "What’s wrong? You think it’s gross because your cousin wore it?"

Having no choice, Shen Meng held out her left hand.

Wu Min scoffed. "Shen Meng, have you never worn jewelry before? It’s left for men, right for women. You wear it on your right wrist. Come on, give me your right hand."

With a sigh, Shen Meng raised her right hand. The sleeve of her loose-fitting loungewear slid down, revealing a slender, pale wrist.

Wu Min’s eyes froze. On Shen Meng’s wrist was a flash of blue—the iconic fluted crown of a Cartier watch glinted in the light, and the diamonds between the Roman numerals seemed to mock her in silence.

"Th-this is a really good knockoff, huh?" Her voice suddenly went shrill, but her fingertips trembled uncontrollably. The face of her Longines suddenly seemed clunky and ridiculous. The rose gold she had just shown off in a nine-photo collage on her Moments feed now looked as dull as scrap metal.

Shen Meng sighed. ’This is exactly why I didn’t want to show her.’ She knew this would happen. ’My cousin isn’t a bad person, just too vain.’

She suddenly grabbed Shen Meng’s wrist, her nails digging into the watch strap. "Have you had it authenticated at the store? These days, the A-grade replicas even come with fake warranty cards—" Her words died in her throat. She spotted the warranty card on the nightstand, its gold-embossed stamp bearing Shen Meng’s initials and today’s date.

Picking up the rose tea, she seemed to forget she had made it for Shen Meng. She took a sip to hide her embarrassment, recalling what Wang Hua had said when he gave her the watch: "A Longines is a perfect match for you." It had sounded so nice at the time.

Now, a new thought suddenly surfaced in her mind: ’A Cartier is what’s a perfect match for me. The bare minimum for a man is that he can afford to buy me a Cartier Ballon Bleu.’

"Cuz, it’s getting late. You should go get some rest."

Shen Meng sighed to herself. ’We were all having a good time. Why did you have to come over here and make things miserable?’

Wu Min snapped back to her senses. Every tick of her Longines’ second hand felt like a slap in the face.

"Right, get some sleep. For Yang Hui to give you such an expensive gift... I hope he’s not planning a blitz to conquer you quickly. You still need to pay attention to the details later on. Be careful, or after he’s won you over, you might never see him put in any effort again."

"Alright, Cuz, just go to bed."

Their values were completely different; talking any further would be pointless.

Wu Min returned to her room, utterly dejected. The first thing she did was go to the official website to check the price of Shen Meng’s Cartier Ballon Bleu. "98,000..." That was her entire annual salary.

That night, Wu Min had a dream. She was flying through the sky, carried by a man who rode upon a seven-colored cloud, a giant blue balloon floating above his head.

The next morning, Wu Min rubbed her sleepy eyes and walked into the living room.

"Cuz, why are you up so late? Auntie left you breakfast, so hurry up and eat."

Shen Meng was sitting on the living room sofa, putting on her makeup. Wu Min didn’t say anything. ’Why am I up so late? Isn’t it obvious? I couldn’t sleep.’

"Shen Meng, why are you getting all dressed up on a weekend?"

Her cousin was already gorgeous to begin with. With a little makeup, she was the kind of woman men couldn’t take their eyes off.

"Yang Hui said he’s taking me out."

From the kitchen, Wu Min poked her head out. "Remember what I said! He gave you that gift yesterday because he’s planning a blitz. He wants to conquer you fast. You have to hold your ground!"

Shen Meng, who had just finished applying sunscreen, replied nonchalantly, "You shouldn’t always be so cynical about people."

A splash of cold water, and Yang Hui’s reflection sharpened in the mirror. A droplet clung to his brow bone, slid down the high bridge of his nose, and hovered at his jawline, refusing to fall. He wiped his face with one hand, the minty scent of shaving cream mingling with the sharp aroma of aftershave in the bathroom.

Yang Hui had messaged Shen Meng first thing in the morning to ask her out shopping. He wasn’t a fan of shopping; his motives were definitely not pure.

Only by going to a commercial district would Shen Meng have a chance to spend money. ’Sigh, can’t even sleep in on a weekend. I have to run around for this system mission.’

’I’ll have to demand a deep kiss from her as compensation later.’

The man in the mirror suddenly smirked. A meticulously styled appearance was never the goal—it was the most basic etiquette for the hunt.

As he wiped the foam from the corner of his lips with his fingertip, he could already picture her wrist, made to look even more slender by the Cartier Ballon Bleu, and those eyes of hers that always darted away whenever he held her.

The matte black car body gleamed with a low-key metallic sheen under the cool light. He settled into the driver’s seat, and the leather automatically adjusted to its memory setting. Shifting the gearstick into drive, he pulled the car smoothly out of the underground garage.

Wu Min casually ate some breakfast and came out to the living room. Shen Meng had just finished getting ready.

"Where are you guys planning to go?"

"I’m not sure. Yang Hui said he’s picking me up to go shopping."

Wu Min let out a surprised "Huh." "It’s pretty rare to find a guy who likes shopping. Wang Hua just messaged me too, said he’s coming to pick me up in his Passat in a bit."

Shen Meng smiled faintly but said nothing. She knew her cousin. ’She must have messaged Wang Hua to come over as soon as she heard Yang Hui was taking me out. She has to turn everything into a competition. I really don’t get what there is to compare.’

’But I guess Wang Hua lucked out. Before she’d officially agreed to be his girlfriend, Wu Min would never have been the one to ask him out.’

While putting on her makeup, Wu Min asked, "What’s Yang Hui’s position at your company?"

"He’s an Operations Manager at Airex!"

"That’s not bad, a manager at his age. But according to your company’s structure, he’s still got a long way to go from Operations Manager to Operations Director, and then to Vice General Manager. It only gets harder the higher you climb."

Shen Meng rolled her eyes but didn’t respond. ’There she goes again, trying to show off how young and successful Wang Hua is. He’s a Vice General Manager at 30, a few ranks higher than Yang Hui.’

RING RING RING~

Wu Min glanced at her phone. "He’s certainly eager. He’s already here."

She answered the call. "Wait for me, I’m coming down now."

Coincidentally, Shen Meng’s phone buzzed with a message. BUZZ~

Wu Min shot a glance at her phone. "You’ve had that piece of junk for years. You should really get a new one."

The message was from Yang Hui. He said he was at the entrance to the complex.

Shen Meng stood up, getting ready to go downstairs as well. "Why would I replace my phone when it works perfectly fine? It’s not like it’s broken."
