"Zhang Li, can you think about the big picture for once?"

"Anyone else in this company could say that, but how can you? President Li is your own uncle. When he's under pressure, if you don't have his back, who will?"

Zhang Li lowered his head, his eyes red. It was better not to bring this up; just mentioning it made him furious.

"What kind of uncle helps an outsider bully his own nephew? When Yang Hui refused to follow an order he'd signed off on, I was the one who got yelled at. I helped shoulder his burden by taking over the management of NLB, and I didn't get a single word of encouragement. All the pressure was dumped on me."

Dan Biao glanced at him and sneered.

'What the fuck are you playing the victim for? When you were asked to take over NLB, you treated it like a golden opportunity. Now that there's pressure, you want to back out? No way.'

"Zhang Li, don't bring this up again. President Li won't agree to it; you know his personality. Let's talk about something else. It's another matter that requires you to step up and look at the big picture."

He was about to cry. Hearing Dan Biao's words, he knew it was more bad news. The old saying goes, "blessings don't come in pairs, but misfortunes never come alone." But misfortunes shouldn't come one after another without end, right?

He stared at Dan Biao without a word, waiting to hear what other "exciting" news he had to announce.

He noticed Dan Biao's expression change from a forced smile to a forced look of sympathy and sorrow.

'Holy shit...' Alarm bells went off in his head. 'It looks like this last thing Dan Biao's about to say is something he's been holding back for a while. A real bombshell.'

"You know the Erke brand's performance has been very poor recently. The annual salary adjustments are mainly to incentivize employees who have contributed to the company. Therefore, your team might not be getting raises this time. You should prepare yourself mentally and get ready to console your team."

"How can that be? My team is getting raises."

Zhang Li's first reaction wasn't anger, but disbelief. He had heard from Cai Miao in advance that everyone on his team was getting a raise.

Dan Biao gave a bitter smile. 'How the fuck do I explain this? I can't just say that President Li took all of your team's budget and gave it to Yang Hui's team, can I?'

Because they needed to give Yang Hui's team a 10,000 raise budget, they canceled all the raises for the Erke team and siphoned off a portion from other teams to satisfy Yang Hui's exorbitant demand.

"There definitely aren't any. You'll see when the email comes out tonight. You need to prepare them mentally beforehand, so they don't get too resentful and let it affect their work."

Zhang Li shivered. Dan Biao sounded so certain. Could something have changed? 'If so, I'm screwed.'

"President Shan, I already told my team members they were all getting raises this time. If they don't, there's going to be chaos."

His expression changed drastically. Dan Biao shot to his feet, slamming his hands on the desk and leaning forward. He spoke, enunciating every word, "Are you kidding me? How could you announce it before the official company email went out?"

'Damn it, this Zhang Li is an idiot. Even if you told someone privately, you could just say your information was wrong when things changed. But you actually made a public announcement to your team members ahead of time. They're going to be furious. It will definitely affect their work performance.'

"President Shan, are you sure there are no raises? Yesterday, Cai Miao told me we were all getting them."

In his panic, he didn't care about selling out Cai Miao. Perhaps in his eyes, Cai Miao was someone to be sold out from the beginning.

Dan Biao didn't care about this act of betraying a teammate. That was just the kind of person Zhang Li was, and he never expected "nobility" from his subordinates anyway.

"I'm sure there are no raises. You should hurry up and prepare to console them. If you don't believe me, you can ask Cai Miao again."

The first thing Zhang Li did when he got back to his desk was send a message to Cai Miao to confirm what Dan Biao had said about the raises.

After waiting a moment, he saw Cai Miao's reply and nearly coughed up a mouthful of old blood. He almost died on the spot.

[Cai Miao: President Li canceled all the raises for the Erke team last night. The Airex team, which originally wasn't getting raises, is now all getting them.]

'Fucking hell, this is going too far! Li Yang, oh, Li Yang, I'm your nephew, and you're helping Yang Hui? Is he your father or something?'

'I'm done for. When that email comes out tonight, all hell is going to break loose. How am I supposed to handle this?'

Just then, a supervisor, Xia Jin, who was also one of Zhang Li's lackeys, came over. "Boss, they've already ordered the food at Zhao Family Kitchen. They're just waiting for you to join them for lunch."

Zhang Li quickly turned off his phone screen, but Cai Miao's reply was still spinning in his mind. It seemed like ever since Yang Hui joined the company, nothing had gone right for him. 'Does he have some kind of jinx on me?'

'Someone so damn powerful has no place at Futong Commerce!'

Zhao's Restaurant

The small restaurant was close to Futong Commerce, wasn't expensive, and the food was decent, so the supervisors usually ate here.

As Xia Jin and Zhang Li entered the restaurant, they happened to run into Ji Kun.

"What a coincidence, Ji Kun. How come we run into you guys every time we come here to eat? Have you made this your stronghold now too?"

Zhang Li didn't think much of supervisors like Ji Kun and just kept walking. Ji Kun replied to Xia Jin, "We're just having a work lunch. When our boss is in the office, he treats us to lunch here."

The boastfulness in Ji Kun's words was obvious. He was showing off that they had a good, generous boss who never let them pay when they ate together. At the same time, he was subtly mocking the supervisors from the Erke brand, who always had to split the bill to treat their boss.

Walking along, Xia Jin said smugly, "A free meal? What's that little favor worth? We're treating our boss today to celebrate getting raises again under his leadership. Ji Kun, you tell me, what's more important: a raise or a free lunch?"

Ji Kun was quite provoked by this, his face flushing red. He snorted and returned to his private room. They didn't know that when Zhang Li heard this, he stumbled and completely lost his appetite for lunch.

With every bite he took, he felt like his team members were reaching out their hands, asking him for their raises.

Seeing Ji Kun walk into the private room looking dejected, Yang Hui laughed. "What's wrong with you? Did you run into your first love out there? You went out happy and came back looking like you've been dumped."

Ji Kun sighed. "Isn't that just how it feels? Like we've been abandoned. No matter how hard we work, the company just doesn't see it."

Zhu Jing knew what he meant. "Just eat your food. Can't all this good food shut your mouth? Who cares if the company doesn't see it, as long as our boss does?"

Ji Kun opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but it ended in a sigh. He could only turn his grief into strength and attack the dishes on the table.

Yang Hui smiled, having a good idea why Ji Kun was acting this way. When he came into the office that morning, he had heard all sorts of rumors, including one that the Airex team would be left out of this round of raises.
