Why is This Troublemaker So Damn Rich?
Chapter 148: "Good Person" and "Rascal"I’m not just sought-after now. I’ve always been sought-after."
Zhu Jing stuck out her tongue and said, half-joking, "You’re so sought-after. If you ever get poached, you have to take me with you. I’ve completely offended Cai Miao at the company. If you weren’t around, I doubt I’d last a week."
Hearing this, Yang Hui stopped and asked seriously, "If I left the company, you’d come with me?"
Zhu Jing replied without a moment’s hesitation, "Of course! I’m sticking with you. In life, I’ll be your ’good person’; in death, your ’loyal ghost’."
He chuckled at her words. "Alright. When I leave the company, I’ll take you with me."
He was quite pleased with Zhu Jing. She was attractive and, more importantly, competent. Yanghe Commerce was a startup and desperately needed talent, so if she was willing to follow him, he certainly wouldn’t refuse. Besides, for her personally, coming to Yanghe Commerce meant far better compensation and future prospects than anything Futong Commerce could offer.
However, perhaps only Yang Hui had that kind of confidence. For anyone else, leaving a company with over a billion in annual revenue for a startup would take immense courage. Even with a high starting salary, the fear would linger—who knew how long the company would survive, or how long that income would last?
He toured the store with Zhu Jing and found that everything—from the displays to the employees’ appearance and even their attitude—was better than at the first Xinyue Square store. Zhu Jing really knew her stuff when it came to frontline store management.
While Zhu Jing was inside arranging the store’s work, he stepped out, leaned against the mall’s railing, and scrolled through his phone.
[Liu Shasha: Yang Dingtian, I’ve got a question to test you.]
...
[Liu Shasha: A reward from Master Xie! This time, I’ve prepared a female secretary, a female subordinate, and a female colleague for you to choose from.]
’Is there even a difference?’ He shook his head and didn’t reply. Talking with her for too long always sent his mind into the gutter.
Just then, a woman emerged from the neighboring "Erke" store. She looked to be about twenty-seven or twenty-eight. As she walked by, she spotted Zhu Jing and greeted her, "Here to inspect the store, too?"
Yang Hui couldn’t help but take a second look. No wonder she seemed a little familiar; she was a supervisor for the company’s "Erke" brand. She glanced at Yang Hui, offered a slight smile and a nod, and murmured, "Manager Yang." To them, he was the formidable figure who had publicly confronted Cai Miao and their own boss, Zhang Li, at a major meeting. They had to keep their distance, but they didn’t dare offend him.
Zhu Jing grunted in acknowledgment. "About to leave?"
The female supervisor replied, "Yeah, I’m heading to the NLB at Wanlong Square for a store check. The bosses are putting a huge emphasis on NLB right now. They’re telling us to increase our store visits and improve management quality. They even said it would be a ’monumental disgrace’ if a single store can’t pull in 400,000 a month."
Zhu Jing had heard about this. Rumor was, Yang Hui had originally been tapped to manage that brand, but he’d turned it down.
"NLB is a good brand. Keep up the good work. 400,000 shouldn’t be too big of a problem."
The supervisor shook her head. "It’s not that simple. If this store were in Xinyue Square, I’d be totally confident. Forget 400,000—I’m sure I could hit 500,000. But Wanlong Square... The foot traffic there isn’t even half of what we get here, and the customers don’t spend as much. I can tell the store employees have lost their confidence, too."
Zhu Jing just smiled. "You all have just had it too good for too long. This situation is still much better than what we had to deal with before."
The supervisor clearly agreed with that sentiment. She sighed. "You don’t know the half of it. When we first took over that store, we had to boast and promise the employees they’d make no less than 5,000 a month just to get them to stay. But now the store has a 400,000 sales target. If they don’t hit 80% of that, they don’t get any commission. They’re left with just the base salary of 2,500. After deductions for the five insurances, they’ll have nothing. I’m telling you, there’s going to be a mass exodus next payday."
Zhu Jing had been through all this; she’d been tormented by these same problems for a year or two. If Yang Hui hadn’t come along and fixed everything, her team would have fallen apart. Thinking of this, she glanced over at him, her eyes filled with adoration.
The supervisor continued to vent, finally adding, "I heard the NLB over at Xinyue Square belongs to another company. It’s under renovation now and set to open in about ten days. Our company is actually planning to have us go poach their staff. They’re calling it ’striking a blow against the competition.’"
Overhearing this, Yang Hui almost laughed out loud at Futong Commerce’s absurd tactics. For one, the staff at the new NLB were all people Yang Na had personally trained; they were fiercely loyal to her. More importantly, when it came to salary and benefits, what could Futong Commerce possibly use to lure them away?
His people were making nearly 10,000 a month with full social insurance and a housing fund, on top of getting eight days off. And Futong Commerce was sending its supervisors—who earned less than 8,000 a month themselves—to poach staff for a store where salespeople wouldn’t even make 3,000?
’What a genius move.’ He thought. ’They’ll be lucky if their own supervisors don’t defect, let alone poach anyone from him.’ He could just imagine it. If those women found out what Yanghe Commerce paid its retail staff, they would completely lose their minds.
"Zhu Jing, I’ve got to go. This job is just too damn hard. It’s a good thing we got a raise this time; otherwise, I don’t know if I could keep going."
Unsure if the woman was just showing off, Zhu Jing simply smiled, not paying it much mind. Her team hadn’t gotten a raise in two years; she was used to it.
Just then, the supervisor pulled out her phone to check the time, just as her email app showed a new message. She opened it, and her face lit up with joy. "It’s here! The email is out! It’s the list of who got a raise."
"Zhu Jing, let me tell you, I don’t really care about how much it is. What’s important is that a raise is the company’s way of recognizing your work. You know what I mean, right?"
Zhu Jing scoffed internally and shook her head. Just as she was about to speak, the supervisor shrieked, "How is this possible?! How could this happen—"
She stared at Zhu Jing, her face a mask of despair. "Your entire team got a raise? And it was 2,000 yuan for everyone? Not a single person on our team got anything! The other teams that got raises... the highest was only 500, and some only got 300. What is going on?"
Zhu Jing was stunned for a moment, then her gaze shifted to Yang Hui. The corners of her mouth curved into a smile as she thought, ’What’s going on? It’s because we have a good boss, of course.’
The supervisor walked away, utterly dejected, leaving it unclear whether she was still heading to the NLB store or going back to the company to find her boss, Zhang Li.
Meanwhile, the company headquarters was in an uproar. These raises were just too bizarre. The operations department had given no raises to Zhang Li’s team—and he was Li Yang’s own nephew! Instead, every single person on the Airex team had gotten one, and for 2,000 yuan each. It was the first time in company history that front-line employees had ever received such a large increase.
