Why is This Troublemaker So Damn Rich?

Chapter 183 - 173: Reactions from All Sides (3)

Yang Hui was in Shen Meng’s office when he received a call from President Tian.

"A Hui, I’m still in Shanghai right now, attending a corporate meeting with President Zhang. I’m calling you during a break."

"A Hui, this is Zhang Chun. The new store had a great opening yesterday, and the numbers look good. President Tian and I are calling to offer our congratulations."

"Great to hear from you both!"

’I can’t believe they’re in a corporate meeting and still thinking about my little business,’ he thought. ’They even took the time to call me specifically.’

Zhang Chun said, "One more thing—I was just telling President Tian about it. You absolutely need to publicize this. You have to post yesterday’s sales report. I’ll have the Xinyue Group’s regional companies share it. This is a moment in the spotlight for Yanghe Commerce, and it’s an achievement for our Xinyue Square as well. It proves we backed the right brand and that the resources we gave you weren’t wasted, haha."

Yang Hui knew the latter half of Zhang Chun’s words were mostly a joke, but he seriously considered the part about publicity. He hadn’t wanted to be too high-profile before, but Zhang Chun’s comment served as a reminder. This kind of promotion wasn’t just about Yanghe Commerce getting its name out there. It would also make the other stores in Xinyue Square less resentful of the regional management’s actions—pressuring them to give Yanghe Commerce the best locations under the most favorable business terms.

’My previous way of thinking was a bit selfish,’ he mused. ’I hadn’t considered that while President Tian could force his subordinates to support Yanghe Commerce, there was bound to be resentment. Now that I’ve achieved something, I can at least prove that President Tian and Brother Chun’s support was visionary. Plus, it gives them better justification for supporting me in the future.’

"Okay, Brother Chun, I wasn’t thinking things through. I’ll have the company create a sales report right away and get all our employees to share it on their social media."

Zhang Chun sounded very pleased. "That’s more like it! President Tian will also help promote you on the Xinyue Group’s regional online platforms. Store No. 1 of Xinyue Square and the regional office will also share it to help build momentum."

"Alright, that’s all for now. Once I’m done with things here in a few days and get back to Qingzhou, we’ll get together for some proper drinks."

After hanging up, Yang Hui followed Zhang Chun’s suggestion and had Yang Na get the marketing department to create a sales report. He also instructed that it be updated daily until the end of the weekend.

After taking care of those arrangements, he left the Yanghe Commerce office. He hugged both women goodbye, making sure to embrace Shen Meng first, then Yang Na.

He was particularly attentive to such details. It wouldn’t do for Shen Meng to smell perfume on him, but it wasn’t a problem if Yang Na did, as she was aware of his relationship with Shen Meng.

He returned to Store No. 1 at Xinyue Square and sent a message to Huang Lingyu, only to find she was already off work. Hearing that Yang Hui was at the store, she asked if she should come over right away. Her initiative was certainly praiseworthy, but he figured it wasn’t worth making her come all the way back; he was just going to do a quick round and head home himself.

He stood outside the NLB store, observing his employees’ performance. He was quite satisfied; they seemed to have improved even since yesterday.

"Manager Yang." He turned his head and saw Xia Jie standing there charmingly a short distance away.

"What are you doing over here?"

She came closer and whispered, "I’m here to investigate the compensation package for NLB’s staff."

He couldn’t help but laugh, though he knew it was probably an assignment from her company. He replied, "If that’s the only reason you’re here, you don’t have to hang around. Or, we could go for another foot massage, and I’ll tell you everything."

Xia Jie blushed and looked down.

They had agreed that the next time they went, he would go all the way. She was clearly not ready for that yet and didn’t know how to refuse, so she just looked down and fidgeted with the hem of her shirt, staying silent.

Yang Hui stopped teasing her. "You don’t have to ask around," he said. "I’ll tell you myself in a little while."

Just then, the morning shift employees were apparently getting off work. They came out of the store in their street clothes. Xia Jie was surprised. "The store is so busy. They aren’t staying to work overtime?"

He glanced at her and smiled. "There’s no end to the money you can make. It’s more important to get enough rest. You can only work well if you live well."

’That sounds way too idealistic,’ Xia Jie thought. ’How is that even possible? When you’re just an employee, you have to expect to be exploited. What kind of boss is a philanthropist?’

"It would be great if you were the boss, Manager Yang. I hope someday you’ll lead us to the kind of life you just described."

Yang Hui loved teasing her, especially seeing her look so shy and flustered. "Xia Jie, are you saying you’re ready to start a life with me?"

"Ah—that’s not... I meant..."

"Oh! Manager Yang, wait a second! I know that supervisor over there from Huasheng Commerce. The employee she just stopped used to work for her. I’ll go see what I can find out."

He knew she was just making an excuse to escape his teasing, so he didn’t stop her. The company didn’t have a strict confidentiality policy about employee salaries anyway. With so many people involved, it would be difficult to keep it a complete secret.

’Besides,’ Yang Hui thought, ’if other companies followed my lead and gave their employees such high salaries, I’d actually support it. Wouldn’t that be my contribution to all these struggling frontline workers? A truly great deed. It’s a shame, though. There probably aren’t many people who can afford to do what I do.’

The reason he had this confidence was twofold. For one, he kept his rent and procurement costs very low. For another, he wasn’t personally relying on this company to rake in huge profits. For him, running a business was more about realizing his own ideas and ambitions.

BZZT~

It was a message from his online friend, Xiaohe Wanwan. He had told her during a previous chat that his first store was opening yesterday, and he had just shared the good news with her: 150,000 in sales on opening day.
