Why is This Troublemaker So Damn Rich?

Chapter 185 - 174: The Poacher Gets a Shock (Part 2)

What they didn’t know was that Xiaotang was indeed affected. Listening to Li Feng’s pie-in-the-sky promises about becoming a supervisor, she realized the offered salary and benefits were even worse than what she currently had as a P1 Level sales associate at Yanghe Commerce.

This made her realize just how precious her current job was. She resolved to work a hundred times harder, constantly improve herself, and grow and develop alongside the company.

"Li Feng," Xiaotang said, "thank you for your past mentorship. I wouldn’t be where I am today without your guidance."

Li Feng’s face lit up. She and Xia Jie both thought Xiaotang had been swayed. After all, for many sales associates, Li Feng’s promise—an opportunity to be promoted from a store clerk to a corporate management position—was likely their ultimate career goal.

"I finally know what I want now," Xiaotang continued. "I’ve found a career I want to dedicate myself to. I’m going to put down roots here and make something of myself."

Li Feng’s hope faded. She glanced at Xia Jie’s surprised expression and sighed softly.

"Alright, as long as you’re happy," Li Feng said. "But as a sales associate, many companies don’t provide social insurance. You usually only get that at the corporate level. You should still be trying to move up."

Xia Jie glanced at Li Feng. ’So her company doesn’t provide social insurance for all its employees? Aren’t they afraid of being reported?’ A moment’s thought gave her the answer. Huasheng Commerce wasn’t a huge corporation; many of its practices were surely not up to code. They cut corners wherever possible. If they were reported, they’d just pay up then. They were just playing the odds.

"Our company provides all of that for us," Xiaotang said, "including the housing fund."

Woah—Li Feng was taken aback. Sales associates get a housing fund? She didn’t even have one as a supervisor. In fact, no one at Huasheng Commerce did.

But then a thought occurred to her, and she smiled.

"Your company is pretty good at buying loyalty," Li Feng said. "They say they offer a housing fund, but I’m sure it’s based on minimum wage at the lowest possible contribution rate, right? How much does that work out to? A little over 200 a month?"

Xiaotang quickly shook her head, eager to defend her company. Yanghe Commerce genuinely cared for its employees; this wasn’t just for show.

"No," Xiaotang said. "It’s calculated based on our actual base salary, at a 12% contribution rate."

Now, it wasn’t just Li Feng; even Xia Jie was a little envious. She secretly thought, ’Such great benefits... Futong Commerce could never do this. With over 2,000 sales associates, an extra few hundred per person each month would be nearly 10 million a year. That would eat up almost the entire company’s profit. Li Yang would never agree to it.’

Li Feng gave an awkward smile. She hadn’t expected Yanghe Commerce to be so generous. But she was here to poach an employee, so it was impossible for her to start singing Yanghe Commerce’s praises.

"That’s still not much," Li Feng pressed. "A few hundred from your paycheck, a few hundred from the company... it adds up to what, five or six hundred a month? It’s like saving up some pocket money."

"It’s more than that," Xiaotang replied. "Even though I’m just P1 Level, my housing fund account should get 1,200 a month."

Someone had calculated it during training. The funds hadn’t actually been deposited yet, but she trusted her colleagues wouldn’t have gotten the math wrong.

How much? Li Feng’s jaw dropped. ’You’ve got to be kidding me. That’s the benefit package for a sales associate? An entry-level one at that?’

"How is that possible?" Li Feng asked. "You must have calculated it wrong. What’s your base salary? Even at a 12% rate, it wouldn’t be that high."

"My base salary is 5,000," Xiaotang said.

A 5,000 base salary—Li Feng’s head was spinning. She stared at Xiaotang in disbelief. ’This is the salary for an entry-level sales associate? A starting supervisor at Huasheng Commerce only makes 5,000! With bonuses, they’re lucky to clear 7,000 a month, and that’s without a housing fund. And now Xiaotang is saying her *base salary* is 5,000?’

Xia Jie fell silent. She was starting to understand why Yanghe Commerce’s sales team had so much fighting spirit. It was because the company was willing to pay.

"Do you get a bonus on top of that?" Li Feng asked.

"Yes, we get a 5% commission on our sales."

Li Feng and Xia Jie exchanged a look. ’My god,’ Li Feng thought. ’They sold 150,000 yesterday, which means each person’s commission for the day was 750 on average. Even after the initial hype dies down and sales aren’t that high, their monthly income should still be over 8,000.’ Li Feng was starting to feel jealous. Their income was higher than hers, and on top of it all, they had a housing fund.

"Wow, those are amazing benefits. I’m honestly so happy for you," Li Feng said. "Seriously, even though we work corporate jobs in management, our compensation is about the same as yours. The only difference is we probably get a bit more time off. We have weekends off. But you guys have it good too, only working half-days."

Xiaotang nodded. That was true.

"Yes," she said, "but we get eight days off a month, and we can schedule them whenever we want, so it’s very flexible. And we can group them together to really go out and relax."

"Eight... eight days off?" Li Feng stammered.

She felt herself stuttering and looked at Xia Jie as if to ask if she had heard correctly. After Xiaotang confirmed it again, Li Feng was left completely speechless. She had struggled for so many years to claw her way up to a supervisor position, thinking she had done pretty well for herself. Who knew that her entire benefits package would be utterly crushed by one of her former, lowest-level employees, who was now just another bottom-rung employee at a different company. Where was the justice in the world?

Xia Jie was also at a loss for words. ’Li Yang sent me here to poach people,’ she thought, ’but this entry-level associate has better benefits than I do. Not only did we fail to poach her, but this whole thing is making me question my own job. Maybe I should just quit and become a sales associate at Yanghe Commerce. It sounds better than being a supervisor here.’
