Why is This Troublemaker So Damn Rich?
Chapter 217 - 185: Do You Know What ’Screwed’ Means? The suggestion to "let someone else handle the other brands" referred to the fact that he managed several other brands, though not as the exclusive agent for Qingjiang Province. In the past, his comprehensive partnership with Xinyue Group had landed him all the projects in Xinyue Square.
President Tian’s words were clearly a jab at him. A comparison of the operational management between Futong Commerce and Yanghe Commerce showed that Futong Commerce was pathetically weak.
The implication was clear: if another company took over his other brands, would they also perform better than they currently were? This single sentence terrified him.
If NLB failed to take off, at worst, it would just mean no new growth. But if his other brands were affected, that would shake his very foundation.
"Dan Biao! Zhang Li! You motherfuckers, what kind of shops are you running?"
He lifted the ashtray and smashed it onto the floor with a BANG.
-----------------
On Saturday, a Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan was speeding down the road from Qingzhou to Sanyang City.
Yang Hui’s left hand rested casually on the Nappa leather steering wheel as his right quietly slid toward the center console. Shen Meng, in the passenger seat, wore a beige maxi dress. It had ridden up to her mid-thighs, and the ambient lighting made her exposed, snow-white skin gleam like a pearl.
"You should be driving. Don’t get distracted on the highway."
His hand had just landed on her smooth thigh when Shen Meng reminded him.
"Alright, fine. When we get to the hotel, I’ll touch you as much as I want."
Shen Meng turned her head to the side, pretending to watch the rural scenery fly by. However, the blush that reached the tips of her ears and the slight tremor in her shoulders betrayed her true feelings.
’The day is finally here. I’m out alone with Yang Hui, and we’re even spending the night. I’ve been mentally preparing for days, but when I think about what’s going to happen today... I can’t help but feel nervous.’
She then recalled what her aunt, Jia Lian, had told her before she left: "Meng Meng, you must be careful out there. If you can, try to come home tonight."
’Thankfully, Auntie doesn’t know I’m on a business trip with just him; she thinks I’m with a bunch of female colleagues. My cousin, Wu Min, on the other hand, asked me several times if Yang Hui would be there.’
Yanghe Commerce’s livestreaming team was already assembled, with two hosts and one operator in place. The company had secured the online retail authorization for NLB and had also differentiated the online product selection from the in-store inventory.
The two of them were out together today to inspect the first batch of NLB store locations provided by Xinyue Square. The locations all looked great on the blueprints, but Yang Hui was a perfectionist; he had to visit each site in person to check for any unforeseen problems.
President Tian took this matter seriously. After he personally gave the instructions, the regional VP of business was also very attentive. However, by the time the task trickled down to the individual stores, the responsibility for adjusting locations fell to the local leasing teams. With so many management layers involved, it was easy for the execution to go off-track. Yang Hui had to be cautious. The investment in each store was substantial. If a careless oversight resulted in a poor-quality opening, it would hurt not only the company’s profits but also the customer experience and employee wages.
After exiting the highway, Yang Hui pulled the car over and picked up his phone to turn on the GPS.
"You don’t need the GPS. I know the way."
Hmm? Hearing Shen Meng, he seemed to realize something. "You’re from Sanyang?"
"Yeah, from one of the nearby villages. But I went to high school in Sanyang City, so I still know the roads well."
Putting his phone away, he followed Shen Meng’s directions and said with a smile, "99.99% of women have no sense of direction. I’m so lucky to have found you, my one in a million."
Recognizing his double entendre, she pursed her lips into a faint smile. ’If I fell for his lines, I’d be a goner by now. He’s such a smooth talker.’
San Yang Xinyue Square was not far from the highway exit. In less than twenty minutes, they had parked in the underground garage.
"It’s not even noon, and the underground garage is almost full. This place really is top-notch, second only to the one in Qingzhou."
As they rode the elevator up, Shen Meng nodded in agreement. "Judging by the foot traffic, it’s not any less busy than Qingzhou Xinyue Square. The customers’ spending power might just be a little weaker."
It was the weekend, but the leasing team and management at Xinyue Square worked on Saturdays. Before coming, Yang Hui had already received a local contact from the regional VP of business. Since he was only there to inspect the location, he just needed to meet with the store’s own VP of business; there was no need to disturb the general manager.
He didn’t contact the store’s VP of business right away. Instead, he first took Shen Meng to check out the proposed location. Normally, the location assignment itself wouldn’t be an issue. The regional business director was known for being strict, and he understood the stakes, especially since President Tian had personally assigned and emphasized this task. He was also well aware of Yang Hui’s standing with President Tian.
Yang Hui hadn’t come today to question the location, but to see if the physical layout of the space was usable. To his surprise, there actually was a problem.
Xinyue Square had provided two spaces this time: one for NLB and one for Zen.
The space for Zen was fine; he saw no problems there. However, the moment he stepped into the space for NLB, he spotted some issues.
NLB’s store design always featured an open ceiling, so the higher the ceiling, the better the finished look. This particular space, however, was crisscrossed with numerous air conditioning ducts and fire pipes, many of which were immovable. This would seriously compromise the store’s visual appeal. Furthermore, customers would feel cooped up, leading to a poor in-store experience. A typical brand might have overlooked such a problem, especially since the location itself was excellent—a spot many brands were dying to get.
He stepped out and walked around, feeling quite dissatisfied with what this store had offered. The locations at Xinyue Square Second Store in Qingzhou, for instance, had been excellent. Both were corner spots in the main atrium, impeccable in terms of storefront exposure, visual presence, and every other aspect. But as soon as you went to a lower-tier city, the quality dropped. The reason was simple: the VP of business could easily drop by and check on the Qingzhou projects at any time. For these outlying stores, however, he might not visit for months on end.
