Why is This Troublemaker So Damn Rich?

Chapter 219 - 185: Do You Know What It Means to Go Bust?

Rage only hurts the one who feels it. Yang Hui and Shen Meng had already forgotten the man existed. The two drove to another Xinyue Square and went inside to look at the floor plan. This one was good; its location was similar to the Qingzhou Xinyue Square Second Store, and he was very pleased.

"I’ll go get you some juice."

Many brands had nationwide partnerships with Xinyue Square, or at the very least, regional ones. This mall also had the same juice shop where the two of them had their first drink together. It had become something of a habit; whenever Shen Meng saw one, she had to buy something.

Yang Hui didn’t stop her. The system’s task completion was still a long way off. Seeing how much of the progress bar was left to fill, he knew he needed Shen Meng to keep trying hard.

Naturally, Shen Meng paid for lunch as well. It had become a small, unspoken agreement between them. Shen Meng even seemed to enjoy the pleasure of paying, since opportunities for her to spend her own money were becoming scarce.

RING RING RING~

The phone rang. It was the vice president of business from the Sanyang Xinyue Square first store. It seemed he was finally free.

Yang Hui answered the phone. "Hello, President Zhang."

"President Yang, my apologies. The regional leadership was here for an inspection today, so I was in meetings all morning. They’ve just gone to the private dining room for lunch, so I’m taking the opportunity to call you back."

’The regional leadership is here?’ The only people the store would receive as "leadership" were President Tian and a few vice presidents. ’I wonder who it is today?’ He didn’t inquire further. He was just here to confirm a store location; there was no need to get so many people involved unless absolutely necessary.

"President Yang, how did you find the location? I haven’t run into Xiaozhao yet, so I’m not clear on the specifics."

Figuring he would have to go join the leaders for lunch soon, Yang Hui said, "I’d like to change the proposed location for NLB. The spot for Zen is fine."

He briefly explained over the phone his reasons for wanting to change spots, pointing out the issue of too many overhead pipes. The vice president said he would go take a look himself after he was done with the leadership and scheduled a time for Yang Hui to come by in the afternoon.

"President Yang, how about this: could I trouble you to come by again this afternoon? We can confirm things on-site. If this space won’t work, we can figure out which one to switch to. That way, we’ll have a clear direction for our work moving forward."

Yang Hui agreed. Confirming on-site would indeed prevent a lot of back-and-forth. It would help avoid a situation where they made adjustments only for him to be dissatisfied again. That would be a hassle for them and a waste of everyone’s time. The two agreed to meet at 2:30 PM in President Zhang’s office.

Meanwhile, when Zhao Rui saw Shen Meng leave with Yang Hui without a backward glance, he was consumed by jealousy. If this were ancient times, he would have charged forward to challenge Yang Hui to a duel. To be honest, he wanted to do it even in this day and age, but then he considered his own 168cm height—he probably wouldn’t even reach Yang Hui’s shoulder. In the end, he decided discretion was the better part of valor.

He grabbed his phone and dialed a number. The name displayed in his contacts was Han Chao. The call connected.

"President Zhao."

In the business world, mutual flattery was the norm. It was customary to address everyone as "President," regardless of their actual title. The term had been so overused that basically anyone and everyone was called "President."

"Old Han," Zhao Rui said, "I know you were turned down yesterday when you talked to Old Zhang about the NLB deal. There might be an opportunity now. Are you interested?"

Han Chao had been frustrated at Sanyang. He’d gone to Lishui City last night, planning to visit the head of business at the Lishui Xinyue Square today. However, the person said they were only free in the afternoon, so Han Chao was still lying in bed, worrying about the lack of progress with the NLB expansion. When he heard what Zhao Rui said, he shot up from his bed.

"President Zhao, of course I’m in! I’ll definitely do it," Han Chao said. "You help me out, and I’ll make sure to show my appreciation, my friend."

’Damn, so a distant authority is less useful than the man on the spot,’ he thought. ’The business director doesn’t want to work with us, but a leasing manager has a solution. This gives me an idea. In the future, when I go to a project to discuss a partnership, I should talk to a few different people.’

"Good," Zhao Rui said. "I’ll go talk to the higher-ups in a bit. Just watch me torpedo Yanghe Commerce’s deal. But you’d better deliver on your promises."

"Don’t you worry, President Zhao," Han Chao replied. "This isn’t the first time we’ve done business together."

Hanging up the phone, Zhao Rui sneered.

’Yang Hui, is it?’ he thought. ’I’ll make sure your store never opens. Let’s see how you explain that to your boss. On top of that, if I give this space to Futong Commerce, I can get a nice kickback. Truly killing two birds with one stone.’

In truth, President Zhang didn’t know Yang Hui’s background. He was pursuing the partnership with Yanghe Commerce for two reasons. First, the regional vice president of business had personally championed the deal. Second, Yanghe Commerce’s NLB sales performance at the Xinyue Square first store was simply astounding. As vice president of business himself, President Zhang’s KPIs included bringing in new brands, rent collection, and sales performance. From every one of these perspectives, Yanghe Commerce was a better choice than Futong Commerce.

Of course, this was because he wasn’t privy to Yanghe Commerce’s business terms. The conditions of the partnership between the Xinyue Group regional office and Yanghe Commerce were set directly by the regional office. The store itself wouldn’t be notified of the details until the day the contract was signed.

Right now, he was with the store’s general manager and several other VPs, attending to the regional leader, President Tian, during lunch. A big shot like him only visited once every six months or so. Naturally, they all had to seize the opportunity to make a good impression and hopefully advance their careers.

Therefore, even though the Yanghe Commerce project was personally spearheaded by a regional VP, President Zhang had still prioritized attending to the visiting leadership all morning. He wasn’t the primary host, so his presence or absence wasn’t critical, but it was still what he had to do.

At a gathering like this, President Zhang was naturally relegated to a junior position at the table. He watched as the project’s general manager stood up, preparing to offer a toast to President Tian.

"Hold on, just sharing something on my feed."

An idea sparked in his mind. Liking and sharing a post from a superior’s feed was another classic way to curry favor.
