Why is This Troublemaker So Damn Rich?

Chapter 66: Don’t Get Any Ideas About Her

Song Wen’s reminder cast a shadow over Li Yang’s heart, stripping him of his initial confidence.

Only when Serene reappeared in the video window did he manage to force a smile.

"When do you plan on coming to Qingzhou, Serene? I’ll make sure to arrange a proper reception for you."

Serene replied calmly, "Thank you, President Li. I’ll be in Qingzhou soon, but I’ll likely only have two hours to discuss work at your company, so please don’t go to any trouble."

"Alright then. Just let me know in advance when you’re coming."

Li Yang didn’t take her refusal of a reception seriously. He figured it would be much easier to arrange something once she arrived, as meeting in person was always simpler than doing it online.

They then continued to discuss the contents of Li Yang’s PowerPoint presentation. Li Yang led the discussion, with Song Wen and Serene occasionally raising questions as they went.

Dan Biao and Zhang Li dutifully took notes with their pens, recording the key points.

Yang Hui returned from taking his team to lunch. After a short nap, he woke up at 1:30 PM to several WeChat messages.

[Cheng Jun: Your President Shan said he’s coming with you to visit President Tian. When are you stopping by? President Tian says you should just come alone~]

He quickly pieced it together. Dan Biao must have realized his relationship with Xinyue Square was special and was hoping to use his connections to meet President Tian.

’That’s pretty shameless,’ he thought. ’If you really wanted to meet him, you should have asked me to set it up. Using my name to get to President Tian... it’d be a miracle if he agreed to see you. President Shan really isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed.’

[Yang Hui: I don’t have much going on this afternoon. If President Tian is free, I’ll head over.]

[Cheng Jun: You can ask President Tian yourself if he’s free. He always seems to make time for you. But what I know for sure is that *I’m* very available.]

Clearly, she wanted to spend some time alone with him. ’She must be missing my Dragon Claw Hand,’ he mused.

Just as Cheng Jun had suggested, he sent a message to President Tian and scheduled a meeting for 2:30 PM.

’Whenever he heard other people talk about scheduling time with President Tian, the man sounded impossibly busy, too swamped to even meet with tenants. But every time I make an appointment myself, President Tian seems to be bored out of his mind, as if he were free no matter when I decide to drop by.’

Just then, he saw a "Received" confirmation in the operations department’s supervisor group chat. He opened it to find a message from Dan Biao about a 5:40 PM meeting hosted by Li Yang.

’A meeting after work? I refuse!’

[Yang Hui: President Shan, I have plans after work, so I can’t attend the meeting. Please be advised.]

He sent this privately to Dan Biao. The excuse was deliberately vague; he didn’t even bother inventing an important reason for skipping a meeting hosted by his own boss.

’I just announced to my team that I was putting a stop to overtime culture. If I stay late for a meeting on the very first day, wouldn’t that make me a total hypocrite? No way I’m doing that.’

’As for this making Li Yang unhappy—well, sorry, but that was precisely my second reason for refusing. I *want* to make him unhappy. If you don’t like it, fire me!’

’I’ve already managed to offend Cai Miao and Zhang Li, two of Li Yang’s closest people, yet the man still wants me to manage "NLB"—to "groom" me, supposedly. This just makes me feel that my efforts to get myself fired aren’t nearly strong enough. I need to try harder.’

He grabbed his briefcase and prepared to head out. He’d gotten to know quite a few people over the past couple of days, and more of them were starting to greet him.

"Manager Yang, heading out?"

A young woman greeted him, her voice soft and shy.

"Manager Yang, you look so handsome today!"

That was the kind of greeting he got from the more mature women, their tone slightly teasing.

He responded to them all with a smile.

"Manager Yang!"

This one was a simple greeting. The voice was soft and a little familiar. He turned to see Xia Jie walking over from a nearby cubicle.

The same supervisor who had been berated by Cai Miao and forced to revise a report twenty-eight times the other day.

Xia Jie was very pretty, with a clean, innocent look about her. Today, she was wearing a light blue dress and a pair of sandals. Her ten toenails were painted a vivid red, a detail that seemed to clash with her otherwise conservative attire. ’Could she be the legendary ’secretly wild’ type?’ he wondered.

"Heading out?"

Yang Hui saw the bag on her shoulder and figured she was also heading out for store inspections.

"Yes, I’m heading to the Xinyue Square store. Where are you off to, Manager Yang?"

"What a coincidence. It’s on my way, I can give you a ride."

"Oh, thank you!"

Xia Jie looked pleasantly surprised. She had a very good impression of this handsome manager who had helped her out of a bind with Cai Miao that day.

He nodded and turned to walk away, when suddenly there was a cry of "Oof!"

He had turned too sharply and collided with a soft figure. His first thought was how soft she was. Hearing her cry out as she lost her balance, he quickly reached out to steady her. He hadn’t expected his palm to land on something so plump and supple. ’So firm, yet so soft?’

"Are you going to let go?!"

Only then did he realize he was grabbing her butt. He said sheepishly, "Sorry, I almost knocked you over."

Shen Meng, who had nearly been knocked over, hadn’t felt it in the initial shock. But now, her backside was burning with humiliation. She glared at him, a mix of shame and anger on her face, unable to tell if he’d done it on purpose.

It wasn’t every day you saw someone "steady" a person by grabbing their ass.

To avoid attracting more attention, Shen Meng didn’t say another word and turned, walking toward a small office.

Only then did Yang Hui get a good look at her.

A white, slim-fit, short-sleeved blouse with a slightly open collar revealed the delicate line of her collarbone. A black, form-fitting miniskirt hugged the graceful curves of her waist and hips, its hem stopping a mere four inches above her knee—not overly revealing, but perfectly outlining her long legs. Sheer black stockings and stiletto heels completed the look, her every step carrying a subtle, modern rhythm.

’This was, without a doubt, the most beautiful and sexiest woman I’ve seen at Futong Commerce,’ he thought. ’A solid nine out of ten.’

’And isn’t this the perfect target?’

’Pissing off Li Yang’s people, getting into an office romance... don’t I now have a clear path forward?’

"Manager Yang..."

Xia Jie’s call brought him back to his senses.

"Let’s go."

He strode ahead, Xia Jie following behind. The fact that Yang Hui drove a Mercedes E-Class to work had already spread throughout the supervisors’ group chat, so she wasn’t shocked.

However, once she got in the car, she was still captivated by the luxurious interior of the fully-loaded Mercedes E-Class. The scent of leather mixed with sandalwood air freshener filled her senses. She quietly snuck a glance at Yang Hui’s profile. ’So handsome!’ she thought.

The car definitely added to his appeal.

"That was Shen Meng from our livestreaming team. She’s the prettiest girl in our company."

Perhaps unsure of what else to say, Xia Jie used it as a conversation starter.

’Livestreaming team?’

Yang Hui knew of this department. It only had a few people; the company had set up a separate livestreaming studio and hired a few streamers to do online sales.

The company sold trendy apparel, so it made sense to hire what the industry called "walking mannequins"—streamers with great figures and beautiful faces—to promote their products. He guessed Shen Meng must be around five-foot-eight.

Shen Meng. Her name, "Meng," meant "dream." A fitting name, since she was probably the dream of many young men at the company. If he made her his target, he would likely become public enemy number one to all the men in the company.

"Manager Yang, I’m warning you, don’t even think about getting any ideas about her."
