Chapter 383: Chapter 267: Sudden Arrival
Without the slightest hesitation, Hom walked straight to the first seat.
In the first seat sat a rather petite human girl named Xie Ling. Before she was transported here, she had been a biology major.
She hadn’t been chosen for the study group because her abilities were exceptional among the students at the academy, but because of her excellent grades.
According to Teacher Liang from the biology department, this student, Xie Ling, was number one in her major, with a GPA that was leagues ahead of the rest.
Furthermore, when selecting Beast Masters to go to Night Nether City, her Spiritual Power had also reached Tier One. With Teacher Liang’s strong recommendation, she was chosen for the study group by Dean Wu and the others.
Good grades meant she had strong fundamentals and an excellent capacity for learning. That was why she had been selected.
At this moment, all the students were silent, their eyes glued to Hom’s slender figure as she moved.
"I will grade you according to your human university’s grading system. The maximum score is 100, and 60 is passing. Anyone below 60 will have to retake the course," Hom explained before glancing down at Xie Ling’s work. She then coolly stated, "62. You pass."
Upon hearing Hom’s announcement, the tense expression on Xie Ling’s anxious face finally relaxed, and she let out a long sigh of relief.
Hom’s gaze rested on Xie Ling’s trembling right hand, and her tone softened slightly.
"Circuits 156, 342, 414... were drawn incorrectly. Circuits 322, 431... have other Elemental Spiritual Particles mixed in. Given that you are a Tier One Beastmaster and your body is relatively weak, it’s understandable."
"Thank you for your feedback, Teacher Hom! I’ll continue to work hard!" Xie Ling was quite flattered to receive Hom’s evaluation.
"Next. Xu Jingjing... You fail."
’Huh? Jingjing actually failed?’ Upon hearing Hom’s announcement, most of the humans present, including Han Ning, wore expressions of surprise.
Xu Jingjing was a representative figure among the academy’s female students and had performed exceptionally well in the defensive battle against the Red Centipede Tribe’s invasion.
’A girl that formidable... failed?’
The human students couldn’t help but exchange glances, their expressions varied.
Those who felt they were inferior to Xu Jingjing naturally panicked.
Those on par with Xu Jingjing grew anxious.
Only a few maintained their composure.
The one who took it the hardest was, of course, Xu Jingjing herself.
Always proud, her face had turned a little pale.
She bit her lip, her brow furrowed, and asked cautiously in a low voice, "Teacher Hom, why?"
"Why? You know the answer yourself, don’t you?"
"Your Spiritual Power has reached Tier Two. You have no issues with either your body or your Spiritual Power. Yet, you made a full three mistakes in drawing the Spiritual Energy Circuits. According to my standards, a Tier Two Beastmaster is allowed a maximum of two minor mistakes. Not a single major mistake is permissible." Hom didn’t even look at her as she continued to the next seat.
"Lin Tianhe, 60. You pass."
"Chen Linyu, you fail. The first circuit you drew showed signs of collapsing. That’s a major error."
"Qing Chi, 90. You pass. Not bad."
"..."
"Leon, 95. Excellent."
Hom’s grading was highly efficient. She could determine a student’s score in an instant with just a single glance.
Finally... she walked over to Ah Yu at the very end. Her emotionless gaze swept over the bones on Ah Yu’s stone table, and she fell silent.
Ah Yu kept her head down, her expression unreadable, but her fingers, tightly clutching the hem of her clothes, betrayed her nervousness.
"Ah Yu... 60. You pass."
A few seconds later, her voice echoed through the quiet classroom, spoken in the strange intonations of the Witch Spirit Language.
’I... passed?!’
Ah Yu looked up in disbelief, only to see a retreating back.
"Congratulations on passing the test," Han Ning sent to Ah Yu as a congratulatory mental message.
"Lord Han Ning, thank you for your guidance!" A joyous smile spread across Ah Yu’s pale cheeks. Disregarding the gazes of others, she gave Han Ning a deep bow.
"Don’t mention it. The stronger you become, the more you can help me," Han Ning said with a smile.
...
In less than ten minutes, Hom had finished grading everyone’s test results.
Including Ah Yu, there were a total of 58 Beast Masters. 40 of them passed the test, while 18 failed. The failures would have to wait for the next batch of new Beast Masters to arrive in Night Nether City, study with them, and retake the test.
After announcing everyone’s scores, Hom didn’t leave much time for discussion. Instead, she immediately dove into teaching the next lesson on the subsequent 660 Spiritual Energy Circuits.
Time was tight. Anyone who wanted to review their performance would have to find other students who had passed and discuss it with them after class to improve.
But... while some rejoiced, others despaired. The students who hadn’t passed the test seemed absent-minded, their faces etched with disappointment.
Hom paid them no mind and continued lecturing on her own.
Among the ’eliminated’ students were Han Ning’s relatively close roommate, Chen Linyu, as well as the familiar Xu Jingjing, with whom he had once fought side-by-side.
Regarding their failure, his true inner thoughts aligned with Hom’s.
’The humans have advanced Meditation Techniques and a plentiful supply of Concentration Liquid. The Soul Beasts provided are also of good quality.’
’Perhaps such an overly comfortable environment is a breeding ground for laziness.’
’Compared to Ah Yu, who practiced like crazy, barely sleeping every day in a desperate attempt to pass the test, Xu Jingjing, Chen Linyu, and the others seemed a bit ’lazy’.’
’Experiencing failure a few more times might be a good thing. That’s the only way they’ll learn to take a hard look at themselves.’
