Wilderness: I Tame Beasts to Survive
Chapter 403 - 277: Cold and GlamorousChapter 403: Chapter 277: Cold and Glamorous
The water of the Netherworld didn’t seem to be water in the truest sense.
It was viscous and looked incredibly heavy.
The splashing liquid flew only a few meters high before crashing back down, releasing an even thicker white mist.
Flashes of dark sword light kept appearing. When Han Ning’s spiritual sense swept over, he was startled to find Fei Lin locked in a fierce battle with over a dozen enormous Fog Snakes.
The Star Dream Unicorn watched anxiously, snorting restlessly. It wanted to charge onto the lake’s surface to help its young master, but it was bound by Fei Lin’s previous orders and couldn’t abandon Han Ning.
"Go on and help her. Yin Yi is here to protect me."
Seeing that the intensity of the battle was just right, Han Ning didn’t have Yin Yi intervene immediately.
"NEIGH!"
The Star Dream Unicorn cried out and, shrouded in a dense, starry mist, charged down.
Fei Lin had been struggling slightly while fighting more than a dozen War General Level Soul Beasts on her own, but the Star Dream Unicorn’s arrival made her even more formidable.
"Yiyi!"
With a soft cry, Fei Lin swung her orbiting Black Sword and leaped onto the charging warhorse. Her Light Armor spread downward, enveloping the Star Dream Unicorn as well. They transformed into an eight-meter-tall Dark Night Knight, looking as if it had stepped out of an ancient myth and radiating a supreme majesty as overwhelming as a mountain!
"Hah!"
Dark Energy surged. The short sword in Fei Lin’s hand transformed again, becoming a thick, heavy Giant Sword. Astride the Star Dream Unicorn, she swung it in a wide arc.
A circular wave of sword light blasted outward. In its wake, all the Fog Snakes were sliced in half and fell into the lake, causing a massive amount of mist to rise.
Fei Lin extended an armor-clad arm and beckoned downward.
Countless dark tendrils shot out, snatching up the dozen or so Fog Snakes—their forms so ethereal they looked as if they might vanish at any second—and returned to Han Ning’s side.
"Yiyi~"
The jet-black visor retracted, revealing a delicate, beautiful face beaming with a charming smile.
Fei Lin shook the Fog Snakes dangling beneath her like a string of fish and let out a cry to Han Ning, as if seeking his praise.
"Nice work. You’ve gotten a lot stronger!"
Han Ning couldn’t help but praise her. Based on his earlier observations, there had been no shortage of War General IVs among the Fog Snakes. Although their Talent was lower than Fei Lin’s, she had been facing nearly twenty of those huge creatures. Her ability to slaughter them with relative ease was truly impressive.
"Yiyiya~"
Upon receiving Han Ning’s praise, Fei Lin’s eyes curved into crescent moons. Without a second thought, she tossed her "catch" to the Star Dream Unicorn and threw herself into his arms.
"WHINNY~ WHINNY~"
Seeing its master being so affectionate with another being, the Star Dream Unicorn felt a little jealous and circled them nonstop.
"There, there. This isn’t the place to chat. Let’s find somewhere safe first."
Han Ning patted Fei Lin’s head, then climbed back onto the Star Dream Unicorn. Using his Spiritual Power to scan, he found a secluded spot near the Ghost Lake and began to dissect the Fog Snakes’ bodies.
These Netherworld creatures, the Fog Snakes, looked magnificent, but upon Dissection, Han Ning discovered that the scales covering their bodies were actually composed entirely of illusory white mist. The only truly solid part was a grayish-white object inside their brains, something akin to a Soul Beast Crystal Stone.
The Crystal Stone contained potent Dark Energy and negative emotions. The moment his right hand touched its surface, he felt waves of anger, irritability, greed, and malice surge into his Spiritual World. But under the force of his Tier Four Spiritual Power, these emotions were instantly shredded to fragments.
Without much hesitation, Han Ning finished off all 19 Fog Snakes, extracted the 19 Crystal Stones, then mounted the Star Dream Unicorn again and quickly returned to the lakeshore.
If he guessed correctly, this great lake was the Hidden Lake that the Alataku People had marked in their records.
The Fog Snakes were merely Soul Beasts living in the surface waters of the Hidden Lake. The Death Shadows resided in the lake’s depths, were far more powerful, and averaged around the Lord Level in strength.
They generally preyed on Fog Snakes, while the Fog Snakes fed on the white mist and Clam Pearls produced by Mirage Spirits.
Although he was quite curious as to whether Death Elf Dragons actually existed here, Fei Lin’s evolution was the priority, so he had no inclination to investigate for the time being.
He left his Spiritual Mark on each Crystal Stone, then tossed all 19 into the lake and began to wait quietly.
A gentle breeze blew across the lake. The only sounds were the CLACKING of Mirage Spirit shells opening and closing and the occasional ripple of water against the shore.
Time slowly ticked by...
An unknown amount of time passed.
’This isn’t good... If this keeps up, my Spiritual Body won’t hold out.’
Hiding by the lake, Han Ning had yet to see any sign of the Death Shadow. On the contrary, the buffeting Energy Wind of the Netherworld was causing his own Spiritual Body to show signs of instability.
’No wonder Lord Hom said one must be at least Tier Four to enter. If a Tier Three came here, they would have long since become one of the Fog Snakes’ companions.’
Han Ning forced himself to rally his spirit. He would wait one more hour. If he still hadn’t encountered a Death Shadow, he would temporarily return to the depths beneath Night Nether City. He would only re-enter the Netherworld after his spirit was fully restored.
So far, while he hadn’t encountered any abnormally dangerous Soul Beasts in this Netherworld projection from the Insect Continent, the realm itself was a perilous place. The omnipresent gales of negative emotion constantly depleted the energy of a Spiritual Body. And once a Spiritual Body entered the Netherworld, it lacked the nourishment of a physical Body. Like rootless duckweed, its spiritual recovery rate was abnormally slow.
The situation was like being a diver with an oxygen tank. One must remain constantly vigilant of their oxygen consumption and be ready to return to the surface at any moment.
