Wilderness: I Tame Beasts to Survive
Chapter 465 - 308: Suitable CandidateChapter 465: Chapter 308: Suitable Candidate
With the conversation over, Han Ning bid farewell to Shui Rui and headed for the port where the Gray Demon Whale was docked, along with Lin Tianhe and Ah Yu.
Due to the evening’s events, he had a change of heart and decided against staying overnight in Shuixiu City.
"Uh... Miss Hailian, Miss Shuili, you don’t need to follow us. We don’t require your services. For tonight... just go on back."
Halfway there, Han Ning looked at Hailian and Shuili, who were trailing behind them like persistent shadows, and spoke with a sigh of resignation.
He took out some Shell Pearls from his clothes, three times the amount they had agreed upon that morning, and offered them to Hailian.
"No, no, no, this is too much, Lord Han Ning. I can’t accept it." Hailian waved her hands frantically.
"Lord Han Ning, but... my sister said that for the next few days, I’m supposed to be at your service..." Shuili kept her head down, her voice laced with a hint of panic. Like a startled fawn, she looked to Lin Tianhe for help.
She hadn’t expected, however, that Lin Tianhe, who had been acting so lecherous before, was now completely straight-laced. He stood calmly by Han Ning’s side, his expression serene, treating the two beautiful members of the Alien Race as if they were thin air.
"Let’s leave it at that."
Han Ning didn’t want to get tangled up with them. Without another word, he pressed the payment into Hailian’s hands, then called his companions to board Egg Pancake, and they quickly disappeared into the night.
...
Not long after the group had returned to Grey’s back, Sage and Hom, who had been gone all afternoon, also rushed back.
"Teacher Sage, Teacher Hom, did you find out any useful information this afternoon?" Han Ning had gathered some companions who were still on the Gray Demon Whale in a lounge within the human living quarters to discuss a few things.
"There’s not much useful information... Pagji Island is in the eastern sea of the Purple Crystal World, whereas the territory ruled by the Witch Spirit Race is in the southern Continent Group. A vast expanse of land and the massive Celestial Sea separate the two."
Sage’s expression was rather serious. Judging by his look, their afternoon outing had not been entirely fruitless.
Hom laid out the situation. "We might need to change our route. The closest continental entry point to the Witch Spirit Race, the one to the southeast, has been conquered by the Alataku People. We’ll have to detour from the east to the south, fly across nearly two-thirds of the Celestial Sea, then traverse about twenty thousand kilometers over the Continent Group to reach the region currently under the Witch Spirit Race’s control."
"It sounds like... the Witch Spirit Race’s situation isn’t very optimistic?" Han Ning ventured, carefully studying both of their expressions.
"It’s highly unoptimistic." Sage’s brow was knitted tightly. "In my memory, the southeastern entrance to the Witch Spirit Race’s territory was the Qingfeng Continent—that’s Prince Hurricane’s domain. And now... the Qingfeng Continent has actually fallen, making the Elemental Continent the new front line."
"The Elemental Continent?"
Hearing this relatively familiar name, Han Ning raised an eyebrow and immediately looked at Hom. "Is that where you used to live, Teacher Hom?"
"Yes... The Elemental Capital is the capital of the Elemental Continent." Hom nodded. It was impossible to discern his feelings beneath his cool, detached expression.
Sage added, "In any case... with the current abilities of us two old fogeys, we wouldn’t be of much use even if we rushed to the battlefield now. You don’t need to worry about this for the time being."
"One thing to note: after we exit the Subspace storm zone, we’ll need to change our flight path as we approach the Eastern Continent Group. We can no longer continue flying in the direction of Qingfeng Island. Hom and I will map out the specific route in detail once we’ve gathered more information in the coming days."
"And... to prevent Alataku scouts from discovering our trail, we will hide our features as high-level Witch Spirit People whenever we go out. You must not reveal any information about us to outsiders, either."
"Yes... We understand!" The others all nodded in agreement.
... After a moment of silence, Han Ning began to recount his afternoon’s encounter in Shuixiu City.
Since both Dean Wu and Academician Zhou happened to be there and hadn’t gone out, he posed the question: "Should I accept this commission or not?"
Academician Zhou answered without a moment’s hesitation.
"Accept it. Why wouldn’t you? We’re currently lacking resources, so being able to acquire some precious ones from an external source is an opportunity we can’t pass up. As for the danger... you’d best sign a Spiritual Contract with that Shui Rui before you agree."
Dean Wu didn’t argue. Instead, he said, "She still needs another helper? I remember that among our group, several people have Soul Beasts on the verge of evolving, don’t they? This is a great opportunity. Go ask them later who wants to volunteer. Han Ning, do you have a list of candidates in mind?"
In truth, sending Lin Tianhe to fight was indeed risky. His Power was only a notch above Shui Yun’s. Even if he used a Spiritual Power Secret Technique, the most he could hope for was to defeat Shui Yun after she had activated her Elemental Circuit.
When it came to combat ability among the academy’s members, the top contenders were undoubtedly Luo Chen, Teacher Zhou, Liu Mengting, and a few others.
Academician Zhou Mingkai was actually one of them, but he was more research-oriented. His Spiritual Power was what was formidable; in terms of training Soul Beasts, he was a cut below the others mentioned.
As for the Dragon Blood Race, they were naturally overlooked by everyone. This was a "job" Han Ning had landed personally. If the humans could handle it internally, there was no reason to share it with the Dragon Blood Race. Besides, the immensely powerful Dragon Blood Race wasn’t lacking for such meager resources.
Han Ning couldn’t settle on a specific candidate from this list.
’Luo Chen is a classmate I’ve fought shoulder-to-shoulder with this whole time, and he’s powerful. I should pick him.’
’But Liu Mengting and Teacher Zhou have contributed more than Luo Chen has in recent months. Liu Mengting, in particular, has to expend tremendous energy every day to soothe Grey’s emotions. The others can take turns, but she can only split the duty with me, which is exhausting.’
