The drone being shot down left Barbarians and the others completely dumbfounded.
How on earth did Chen Wen pull that off?
The question lingered in everyone’s mind, putting the whole team in a foul mood.
But at that moment, Second scratched his head and said thoughtfully, "Could be he knocked it down with a spear. I remember his last hand was flipping us the bird, and his other hand looked like it had just thrown something."
Speaking of this, Second couldn’t help adding, "Don’t tell me he’s figured out who we are?"
"Eight or nine chances out of ten!"
San said, "Doesn’t he have a tamed Golden Eagle? If the Golden Eagle flew over here, it could still see our camp and the cars. Our off-roaders are the same model the mining operation bought; they’re not hard to recognize."
Hearing that, Barbarians nodded slightly.
Then he said, "Talking about that now is useless. How we deal with him is what matters!"
Barbarians took a deep breath and paced a few steps on the spot.
Very quickly, he said, "We ignore him for now! There are men guarding the camp down there. If he goes down alone, he’s just asking to die. We catch the Snow Leopard first. Once we have the Snow Leopard, we go down and sort him out! Fourth, call the brothers below and tell them to stay alert and patrol around the camp in pairs!"
Fourth hurriedly used the satellite phone to contact the camp below and got them patrolling according to Barbarians’ instructions.
Once Fourth finished, Barbarians said, "Move, we keep going up and catch that Snow Leopard!"
But Second looked a bit embarrassed now. "The drone’s been wrecked by Chen Wen, next we..."
Barbarians snorted at that, unable to hold it in. "We can track it with our naked eyes just the same! We already know the position, what’s there to be scared of?"
"As for Chen Wen? He’s definitely going to pay the price!"
Seeing Barbarians had made up his mind, no one dared talk back.
Grabbing their climbing gear, the four sped up toward the rock crevice where the Snow Leopard was hiding.
...
On Chen Wen’s side.
Watching the four orange-red figures continue toward the summit, he couldn’t help scratching his head. "These guys are still going higher? Looks like the Snow Leopard’s up near the top of the mountain, and they plan to bag the Snow Leopard first before anything else?"
"If that’s the case, their camp should be empty. Let’s go check their camp!"
Once he’d made up his mind, Chen Wen had Xiong Ma lead the herd away, and at the same time had the Snow Leopard and the Tibetan Horse Bear scatter and hide—after all, they were targets for Hunting Owl too.
Chen Wen then turned and mounted Li Ma, heading alone toward Hunting Owl’s foothill camp.
But he hadn’t gone far when the Golden Eagle flew over, signaling to Chen Wen, "Looks like the camp folks already know we’re heading their way. I saw people with guns patrolling around the camp."
Hearing they had guns and already knew he was coming, Chen Wen immediately dropped the idea of getting any closer.
His brain worked fine, and he was very clear on what getting shot would mean for him.
So Chen Wen simply had Li Ma load up the gear and leave with the herd.
He himself turned into a Golden Eagle, then flew with the Golden Eagle toward the camp to scout out the situation first.
...
Wings slicing through the air, Chen Wen in Golden Eagle form caught the wind and rose, reaching high altitude and linking up with the Golden Eagle.
He could now feel the effect of the trait: his body was incredibly light, as if he were a feather being swept up by the wind.
Gliding easily, Chen Wen reached Hunting Owl’s foothill camp.
This place didn’t quite count as heavily fortified, but overall, it would be very hard for a full-grown person to get close.
Chen Wen in Golden Eagle form landed on a slope, sizing up the inside of the camp.
Just as the Golden Eagle had said, these people had two vehicles in total—one was the same off-roader he’d seen before, and the other was the truck hauling the animals.
Chen Wen waited on the slope for a bit as two Hunting Owl members carrying food walked over to the truck.
They yanked off the black tarp covering the truck, revealing what was inside.
Seeing the interior of the truck, Chen Wen’s eyes went wide.
He saw the truck bed stacked with several iron cages!
In the biggest iron cage, Chen Wen saw a Gold-threaded Yak lying down!
An adult!
This Gold-threaded Yak’s coat was extremely pure, its whole body gleaming with a dark golden sheen under the sun, as if it had been cast from solid gold.
And beside it was a calf.
The calf was also a Gold-threaded Yak, though its coat was noticeably inferior.
So they really had pulled it off!
As Chen Wen thought this, the two Hunting Owl members carried some hay-like stuff over to the two Gold-threaded Yaks to feed them.
On the other side were some cages that were rather tall but smaller overall.
There were animals in those as well—black-necked cranes!
Four black-necked cranes in total, not in great shape; they looked listless and weak.
When the Hunting Owl men got close, the cranes instantly showed fear and let out a series of calls.
Seeing the state of the black-necked cranes, anger flared in Chen Wen’s chest.
But he didn’t let that anger cloud his judgment.
Charging in head-on wouldn’t work; the patrolling men all had hunting rifles!
Chen Wen in Golden Eagle form thought for a moment, then beat his wings and took off.
He planned to examine the surrounding terrain to see if there was anything he could use.
But soon, Chen Wen in Golden Eagle form landed back on the slope, a bit helpless.
No good—no terrain he could exploit.
The southeast sides were all cliffs, the north was a slope, and the environment was relatively enclosed; you could only go in and out from the west.
A frontal assault was definitely a no-go.
Chen Wen in Golden Eagle form pondered for a bit and put aside the idea of attacking the camp for the moment.
He beat his wings, signaling the Golden Eagle to follow as they climbed higher.
He planned to see what was going on up high with Barbarians’ group.
If nothing else worked, he’d start by looking for a breakthrough on Barbarians’ side.
...
Up on the mountain.
Barbarians and the others had already surrounded the Snow Leopard.
Fourth stood at the front with his hunting rifle raised, and Barbarians followed behind him, holding something like a net.
Second was below, Third up high.
The four of them had the Snow Leopard encircled.
The Snow Leopard in the rock crevice seemed to sense the danger too.
It kept letting out hoarse roars, trying to force the group back.
But Barbarians and his men were veteran poachers. They’d built themselves up from four nobodies to their current scale—they weren’t about to be scared off by a few roars.
Besides, Second still had the carbon-based lifeform calmer in his hand.
While they were closing in on the Snow Leopard—
Chen Wen in Golden Eagle form had already arrived nearby.
At a glance, he saw that these guys were trying to capture the Snow Leopard!
Fuck, poaching right in front of me?
Chen Wen looked at the Golden Eagle and signaled it to circle and not come too close.
Then Chen Wen dove straight at the four of them, his sharp talons tearing through the air as he raked hard toward the hunting rifle in Second’s hand.
He didn’t have the Golden Eagle’s speed or finesse, but Chen Wen’s thing was raw stats.
Chen Wen in Golden Eagle form stacked with [Giant Strength] let loose an immense burst of power.
Second only felt a blur before his eyes, and in the next second an irresistible force surged up from the rifle.
His hand slipped, and the hunting rifle was snatched away in an instant by Chen Wen in Golden Eagle form.
Second stared dumbly at his now empty hand, and Barbarians beside him was just as stunned.
Before they’d even processed what had happened, Chen Wen in Golden Eagle form was already beating his wings, shooting up over the sheer cliff.
He tossed the hunting rifle without hesitation.
The gun smashed down below the cliff, clanged off a rock, and shattered instantly.
Only then did Chen Wen turn back to look at Barbarians and the others.
Barbarians looked up at Chen Wen in Golden Eagle form—clearly, he’d mistaken Chen Wen for the Golden Eagle.
Second couldn’t help bellowing now, "Fuck! That’s gotta be the Golden Eagle Chen Wen raised!"
Barbarians snorted. "Of course it is! Fuck, what a damn nuisance!"
As he spoke, he drew a pistol, aimed at Chen Wen, and yanked the trigger hard.
