Michael's strategy came to an unforeseen end as he tried to pull his spear back in order to kill the third monster as soon as it appeared.
The third monster dropped from the center of the portal, but the iron tip of his spear caught deep inside the second beast’s ruptured ribcage. When he pulled backward, the weapon refused to budge, completely jammed within the anatomy of the carcass.
*Fuck. I totally screwed up!*
He was frustrated and started to panic but he could not afford to stop now. Without wasting time he braced his leg and planted his shoe firmly on the dead monster’s bleeding flank and yanked the shaft with all his strength.
The brief delay was fatal to his battle. The third hound-fox hit the surface of the lecture desk with a thud, baring its rows of teeth and hissing softly as its eyes locked onto his unprotected torso.
Before Michael could successfully free his weapon to strike the creature down, the purple rift hovering near the ceiling flared a fourth time. The fourth monster dropped right after the third, its muscular limbs compressing as it prepared to launch itself forward.
He was completely out of position, his only offensive weapon was thoroughly stuck, and two aggressive enemies were rapidly closing the distance.
As he was losing his determination and started to panic, a loud tumult on the front desks attracted the attention of the monsters. The absolute paralysis that had gripped the three hundred students trapped within the lecture hall began to shatter. Seeing Michael single-handedly kill two otherwordly creatures in rapid succession had provided the psychological influence they desperately needed now. Michael’s actions demonstrated that these creatures weren’t invincible ghosts or illusions—they were entities of flesh and blood, capable of being torn apart, bled, and killed.
„Do something! Help him!“ a male voice roared from the upper tiers of the class room, with sheer desperation in his voice.
Suddenly, a barrage of random objects of all sorts like wooden lecture chairs, heavy backpacks, thick reference manuals, and random plastic objects came soaring through the air, thrown by several desperate students who had finally regained control over their body. The improvised projectiles rained down slamming directly into the flanks of both the third and the fourth hound-foxes. The unexpected impacts knocked the agile monsters off balance, disrupting their focus and movement just as they were preparing to spring directly at Michael’s exposed throat.
Nearby, a handful of other young men finally broke through their internal wall of confusion and terror. They focused to manifest their own starting spears from their unfamiliar, newly granted system inventories.
That chaotic, student-driven distraction gave Michael the exact window he desperately needed to make his move.
He finally tore his spear tip free from the carcass and moved to the third monster, spinning the ash-wood shaft, and drove the iron point downward, using the gravitational weight of his upper body to pierce straight into the eye socket of the staggered third monster.
The blade crunched through bone, extinguishing the creature’s life force instantly.

A sudden, overwhelming surge of warm revitalizing energy washed through Michael’s body. Michael wasn’t really surprised. On the contrary, he was expecting it. The only thing that he couldn’t anticipate was, what effects the level up would bring and what benefits he would get. He could feel that the energy washing through his body not only strengthened him but somehow affected his strained muscles. It was possible that it would have also healed injuries if he had any. This was very important news and would considerably affect his fighting style. If it was true, he could risk minor injuries and carry out risky attacks. Another pleasant surprise was the free attribute and skill points.
But there was absolutely zero time to allocate his newly acquired free points or check his revised status sheet in detail. The situation offered no pauses for distraction.
He immediately stepped over the desks to confront the fourth beast, which was already aggressively shaking off the impact of the thrown objects, twitching with rage. In the meantime, the spatial rift coughed out two more dark entities one after another behind the fourth monster, their claws clicking against the concrete floor before they even fully materialized.
Unlike the first three rapid kills, however, this battle would not end in a matter of brief seconds. Michael no longer possessed the advantage of the element of surprise. The fourth hound-fox was fully alert, agile, and already tracking him with its glowing, predatory eyes.
Even with his attributes boosted by the level-up, Michael found himself locked in a tense exchange of blows. The beast lunged forward with a burst of speed, snapping its teeth within inches of his chest, forcing Michael to rapidly pivot his heels and use the reinforced shaft of his spear to parry a horizontal swipe of its razor-sharp claws.
The creature was exceptionally fast, darting across the rows of wooden desks and forcing Michael to constantly adjust his footing amidst the debris of notebooks and shattered laptops. He thrust his spear twice, but the aware hound-fox evaded both strikes. It leaped effortlessly from one tier of seats to another, seeking a blind spot to exploit.
Deep within his chest, Michael felt a rising of panic—a natural human response to the lethal threat. But his discipline, hardened by his strong will, refused to let the emotion dictate his actions. He remained fully concentrated and tried to measure distance, speed, and timing of the monster.
Deliberately waiting for an opening, he intentionally overextended his stance, baiting a desperate leap from the predator.
Predictably, the beast took the bait. As the hound-fox launched its body through the pale air of the lecture hall, Michael utilized his speed to the maximum to execute a sidestep. He drove the blunt, reinforced butt end of the spear directly into the creature’s exposed ribcage, instantly halting its forward momentum mid-air. Before gravity could pull the stunned entity down, he spun the weapon over his knuckles and followed up with a heavy downward thrust straight through the creature’s spine, pinning its twitching body to a desk.
The collision broke the desk and the beast convulsed violently once, its limbs locking up in a final, agonizing spasm, before going completely limp.

Wiping a thick, dark smear of fluid from his forehead with the back of his hand, Michael finally looked away from his own battlefield to look at the situation of the rest of the lecture hall.
The battle was far from over. While he had been tightly locked in combat with the fourth beast, the purple rift had continued to pulse rhythmically near the ceiling. Michael’s eyes scanned the chaotic room, quickly tallying the remaining threats. There were four living monsters in total, and the human defense was nearly breached.
In the meantime, two additional creatures had dropped from the portal, along with another aggressive pair that had slipped through the spatial rift before, they engaged in a chaotic, bloody skirmish with the remaining students on.
The academic lecture hall had degenerated into a messy, uncoordinated warzone of absolute survival. Small, fractured groups of panicked young men and terrified women were screaming at the top of their lungs. The brave ones among them were thrusting wildly with their newly manifested iron spears. They were desperately trying to hold a line as the four remaining monsters snapped, tore, and lunged at them. Michael tightened his grip on his spear, his mind already planning the best path to eliminate the remaining threats before the entire room was turned into a slaughterhouse.
