Michael needed a weapon. Right now.
Without his spear, he was completely defenseless in the middle of the lecture hall surrounded by monsters. He could hear their heavy breathing all around him. Suddenly, a beast jumped from between the desks. Its sharp claws cut the empty air right where Michael’s head had been a second ago. Michael dropped low, slid under the attack, and quickly scrambled back to his feet.
He kept running, ducking, and dodging through the narrow corridors for nearly two minutes, moving closer to where the portal stood, looking for anything he could use as a weapon. It was a very close call every single time. His left shoulder burned with pain, and the blood loss was starting to make him dizzy. His strengthened will kept him focused, but without a weapon, his strong will and his high perception were utterly useless. He could only dodge and not fight back.
Another monster jumped at him. Michael twisted his body to the side. The beast’s teeth snapped so close to his face that he felt its hot breath on his cheek. Michael pushed his hands against the monster’s side as it flew past, using the momentum to throw himself away, reaching the glowing portal.
He looked desperately around the debris near the gate. He needed a weapon. Anything.
And then, he finally found what he was desperately looking for after all this time.
Right in the area where the portal had reactivated, a dead student was lying next to a shattered barricade. The young man was just wearing normal everyday clothes—a torn hoodie and jeans. His chest was ripped open by deep claw marks. He had clearly been killed during the chaos and panic when the portal suddenly turned back on.
He had no time to mourn the death of the fallen student. In his desperation, he didn’t even register the student as a dead person. He had only eyes for what lay right next to the student’s cold hand. It was the familiar standard iron-tipped spear. The metal tip had some old blood on it, but the wooden handle was completely fine.
It was now that he registered the unlucky student who had fallen while trying to protect his people and fight back against the spawning monsters. „Sorry,“ Michael whispered.
Overjoyed that he wouldn‘t be defenseless anymore, he stepped forward and grabbed the spear without a second thought. Just as his fingers gripped the handle, he heard heavy paws behind him. Two hound-foxes ran into the space near the portal, staring straight at him. At the same time, Michael checked the portal. *Thank god, it's not active. Not anymore.* he felt relief in one moment and in the next he readied himself for the upcoming battle.

With the spear in his hand, he did not need to run any longer. He turned around and held the spear ready to attack.
The first monster jumped, trying to pin him to the ground. Thanks to his heightened senses through his increased willpower he noticed its jump early on and took a step forward to mess up the monster’s timing. For minutes, the monsters were the hunters and Michael the hunted, always on the running side. That’s why the monster did not expect Michaels sudden move and could not react in time. Michael drove the iron tip straight into its open throat. The beast choked and fell, dying in seconds.
[You have killed a Hound-Fox-Variant (Level 2)]
[You have received 25 Experience Points]
Michael put his foot on its chest and pulled his spear out first. At that exact moment, the second monster jumped over the dead one.
Michael spun on his heel. He swung the back end of the spear and hit the second monster hard in the head mid-air. The beast crashed clumsily to the floor. Before it could get up, Michael turned the spear around and stabbed it hard into the back of its neck, killing it instantly.
Right after the second kill, the notification for the experience points popped up, quickly followed by more notifications:
[You have killed a Hound-Fox-Variant (Level 3)]
[You have received 50 Experience Points]
[Ding! You have leveled up]
[Congratulations! You have reached Level 5. All baseline attributes have automatically increased by +1 point. You have received 5 attribute points and 1 skill point]
Gold light slammed through Michael’s body all at once. It completely healed his wounds, instantly erasing the burning pain in his left shoulder and the dizziness from his blood loss. All his fatigue disappeared as his stats fully restored.
Before he could even process the rush of power, the crimson text shattered. A massive, gold-bordered screen forced itself into the center of his vision, pulsing with a heavy hum that felt like it echoed across the entire planet.
[WORLD ANNOUNCEMENT]
[Congratulations to the first human on Earth to reach Level 5.]
[The path of evolution has truly begun. Class selection is now available.]
Michael stared at the flashing gold letters. *The first in the world?*
As the world announcement slowly faded to the edge of his vision, a new, uniquely dense text box began to generate. Because he was the very first human to break through the Level 5 threshold, and because of his hidden achievements from fighting on the front lines, the standard class options were completely replaced by three unique choices.
[SPECIAL CLASS OPTIONS UNLOCKED]
[Due to being the first one to reach Level 5 on Earth and your exceptional achievements, you have been granted access to special Classes:
1. Lonely Warrior
2. Iron Ruler
3. Champion of Humanity
Michael stared at the three names blinking on his status screen, reading through the descriptions as they slowly filled in.
He gave a tight nod of respect to the dead student, turned around, and faced the path leading back to the main entrance.
There was no time to pause and further deal with the system and his class options. To Michael it was more important to fight his way back to his team. He wouldn’t forgive himself if someone would die because of his carelessness.
