Wizard: Grinding to Lord of Truth

Chapter 206: Survival and Mortality

"What happened?" After so many years together, she knew Andre never said anything without a reason.

"I just got lectured."

Andre then told her what had happened between him and De Ken.

"An Alchemist daring to question a Master Alchemist? If word of this got out, his teacher would probably expel him."

The corner of Karina's mouth twitched when she heard what Andre said.

"Who knows?" Andre shrugged.

"Perhaps he has some powerful backing!"

Hearing this, the corner of Karina's mouth twitched.

'It was a good thing Andre had such an easygoing personality, or rather, simply couldn't be bothered with such matters. Otherwise, with the powerful elders backing him, it would be a miracle if anyone could bully him.'

'But even if Andre didn't retaliate, his elders could still scare that guy half to death.'

As they were talking, it was Andre's turn to have his Merit Points calculated.

Andre took out his token and handed it to the Wizard in charge of calculating Merit Points.

The Wizard took Andre's token and inserted it into a special device.

Instantly, specks of light began to emerge from the token, appearing before everyone's eyes like a brilliant star cluster.

"So many Merit Points!"

The Wizard in charge of calculating the Merit Points looked at Andre in astonishment, then waited for the light to fade.

But no matter how long he waited, light continued to pour from Andre's token. Soon, the other Wizard responsible for tallying Merit Points couldn't sit still any longer. He walked right over to get a look at Andre's token.

Five minutes later, after the area had turned into an ocean of light, the glow finally stopped pouring from Andre's token.

"That's 100,000 Merit Points."

The two Wizards in charge of tallying Merit Points stared at the number displayed on the device, then looked at Andre in utter shock.

"One hundred thousand?" Karina, standing beside Andre, stared at him in shock.

'She and Andre had arrived in this world together, so why were his Merit Points so many times greater than hers?'

'Originally, she would have considered it a huge amount if Andre had even twice as many Merit Points as she did.'

'After all, Piedra had only managed to earn 20,000 Merit Points, and now Andre's total had shot straight to 100,000.'

"Weren't you the one who just said it? I'm a Master Alchemist!"

A smile touched Andre's lips.

"What does being a Master Alchemist have to do with the Merit Point tally?"

Karina didn't quite understand what Andre meant.

Just then, the two Wizards in charge of tallying Merit Points cleared up Karina's confusion.

"The reason he has so many Merit Points is that, in addition to providing very thorough topographical and racial intelligence, he also recorded the properties of most of the Magic Plants in this world."

"That was the biggest contributor. Of his 100,000 Merit Points, 70,000 were awarded for that work."

"And that's not all. In the future, once our people have migrated here, his Merit Points will continue to accumulate whenever Potions are made using this world's Magic Plants."

"No way, it works like that?"

The two Wizards' explanation made Karina's eyes go wide, and the other Wizards who had come to calculate their own Merit Points stared in disbelief as well.

"'Food, clothing, shelter, and transportation are the basic necessities of survival. But beyond those, there is birth, aging, sickness, and death—stages that every living being will experience.'"

"'His research into this world's Magic Plants can save many people from the suffering of illness, which is why his achievement is so significant.'"

The other Wizard nodded at Andre, a peculiar glint in his eyes, and extended a hand.

"Master Alchemist. Hello, my name is Jack."

"Hello. I'm Andre."

The moment Andre stated his name, Jack immediately withdrew his hand and stared at him silently.

"Is there a problem with my name?"

Andre looked at Jack, surprised.

"No problem. I just didn't expect you to come calculate your Merit Points in person."

Jack said, looking at Andre in surprise.

"From the way you're talking, it sounds like I'm not supposed to be here."

Andre blinked, a curious smile on his face.

"That's not what I meant!" Jack waved his hands, startled by Andre's comment.

"Never mind. Now that my Merit Points have been calculated, where do I go to exchange them?"

Andre paid no mind to Jack's words, asking his question directly.

'For Jack and the Wizard next to him to be assigned the task of tallying Merit Points, it meant they both had to have some kind of backing.'

'But no matter how powerful their backing was, it couldn't compare to his own. That must have been why they reacted so strongly after hearing his name.'

"This is an Exchange Token. Just infuse your Spiritual Power into it, and you'll be able to see the items available for exchange and their requirements."

Jack handed an Exchange Token to Andre, returning his original token as well.

Andre nodded, then left with Karina.

"One hundred thousand? That's way too many."

Karina kept muttering to herself as she followed beside Andre.

"Didn't you hear them? Seventy thousand of those one hundred thousand points came from my analysis of this world's Magic Plants."

Andre stopped in his tracks, listening to Karina's rambling with a helpless sigh. It was giving him a headache.

"I know, but that number, 100,000, is still just so shocking."

"Those 100,000 Merit Points can be exchanged for a full one hundred million Magic Stones! Even if they're only Elementary Magic Stones."

"And that's just for exchanging into Magic Stones. If you're talking Potions, Magic Plants, or Witchcraft Artifacts, the value is even greater."

Karina said excitedly as she kept pace beside Andre.

"But it's still not enough," Andre said, sighing helplessly at Karina's excitement.

"Still not enough?" Karina froze, stunned by his words.

"I'm a Master Alchemist now. If I want to become a Potion Master, do you know how many types of Potions I'll need to research, and how many batches I'll have to create?"

Andre looked at Karina and heaved an exaggeratedly heavy sigh.

"Well, that really might not be enough. But how many years has it been since a new Potion Master has emerged?"

"The last Potion Master to appear was 5,000 years ago—Grandmaster Doug. The Light Academy he founded was officially promoted to become the Tower of Light 3,000 years ago and returned to the Wizard Ancestral Land."

Karina took a deep breath as she spoke the name of that last grandmaster.

Not many people knew that name, but for a broker who made her living dealing in information, Karina was an exception.

"There you have it," Andre said with a nod, and continued walking forward.
