Chapter 217: Chapter 217: A Thief Never Leaves Empty-Handed

Andre sighed, looking at the Black Water on the ground.

"What’s wrong?" Karina asked quickly, seeing his reaction.

"We waited so long and went through all that trouble, just to end up with nothing."

Only then did it dawn on Karina.

She and Andre had gotten nothing from the Tomb of the Giant Elephant.

The Giant Elephant corpses they had envisioned finding had been eaten clean by the giant snakes.

Then, the giant snakes they killed were completely dissolved by the Potion Andre had used, turning into a pool of Black Water whose contents were impossible to identify.

It meant that the two of them had bustled about for ages, fought a battle against giant snakes, and ended up with absolutely nothing to show for it. It was all for naught.

"How did this happen?" Karina scratched her head, looking at Andre in confusion.

"As for how... I can only say we were too late. Who would’ve thought any Magical Beast would dare to raid the ancestral home of the Giant Elephant Race?"

Andre shook his head. As the rulers of an entire continent, the Giant Elephant Race held absolute dominion over the Giant Elephant Plain.

And yet, some race still dared to challenge them.

"But why didn’t those giant snakes tear the young elephants to shreds?"

Karina had been mulling this over, but no matter how she looked at it, she couldn’t figure out why the giant snakes would have left the young elephants alone.

"Perhaps the Giant Elephants left some kind of protective Witchcraft on them?"

It was the only explanation Andre could think of.

"That must be it, I suppose."

Karina nodded and fell silent. The two of them hovered high in the air, watching the Black Water below by the glow of a phosphorescent fire.

Having dissolved the fragments of the giant snakes’ corpses and the bloody mud on the ground, the Black Water had formed a small lake.

"Aren’t we going to do something about this Black Water?" Karina frowned, looking at the pool on the ground.

"Don’t worry about it. It’ll be gone soon."

Andre waved his hand dismissively, signaling for Karina not to worry.

Karina, however, was baffled. If they just left the Black Water alone, the entire Giant Elephant Tomb might be dissolved.

"These giant snakes couldn’t have entered the Tomb of the Giant Elephant from the outside, and yet they did. What does that imply?"

"It implies they have an entrance somewhere inside the Tomb of the Giant Elephant. And this Black Water will help us find it."

"You’re planning to hunt down these giant snakes?"

This time, Karina instantly grasped Andre’s plan and stared at him in astonishment.

"We can’t just leave empty-handed, can we?"

"Besides, those giant, clawed snakes can use Soul-based magic."

"And Magical Beasts of the Soul Element are extremely valuable in any world."

"If we can get our hands on some of their Snake Eggs and sell them, that would be a sizable fortune."

"While that fortune can’t compare to the Giant Elephant corpses in the Tomb of the Giant Elephant, it would be some form of compensation for our troubles."

Karina nodded at Andre’s words and immediately began searching for the snakes’ entrance to the Tomb of the Giant Elephant.

But after searching for a long time, she still couldn’t find the entrance the giant snakes had used.

"You won’t be able to see it right now. Searching is just a waste of time!"

Andre smiled and shook his head as Karina flew back to him.

"Then how are we supposed to find it?" Karina didn’t understand Andre’s logic at all.

"Right now, the Blood Fusion Potion is still dissolving the snake fragments and the bloody mud. Once it has finished, the passage will reveal itself."

Andre gave Karina a mysterious look.

Hearing this, Karina instantly understood what Andre was thinking.

"There’s too much Black Water right now, so it’s hiding the snakes’ entrance."

Andre smiled and nodded.

"You could have just said so! You made me search for so long!"

Karina shot Andre a resentful look. He just spread his hands and shrugged.

"You were the one who was too impatient. What’s that got to do with me?"

Karina opened her mouth to retort but then closed it, knowing she could never win an argument against Andre.

And so, the two of them waited in the Tomb of the Giant Elephant for over an hour.

Finally, the level of the seemingly bottomless Black Water began to steadily drop.

"Did you hear that?" Andre suddenly heard a tremendous noise.

"Yeah. It’s to our right."

Karina nodded, then turned and flew off to the right.

Andre followed close behind Karina, taking the Ten Thousand Laws Wheel from his wrist and casting a Light Technique that illuminated the entire Tomb of the Giant Elephant.

This time, having learned his lesson, Andre poured a massive amount of Chaos Magic Power directly into the Ten Thousand Laws Wheel, bathing the entire Tomb of the Giant Elephant in brilliant light.

As the Tomb of the Giant Elephant was brilliantly lit, countless gray particles began to appear before Andre.

Then, more and more gray particles began to converge.

"Wait!" Andre shouted to Karina.

Karina stopped and turned back, looking at Andre in confusion.

"You can’t see them?" Seeing her reaction, Andre’s expression changed abruptly as he pressed her for confirmation.

"See what?" Karina now noticed that something was wrong with Andre’s expression.

"You really don’t see them?" Andre asked again, trying to confirm.

’Why do those words sound so familiar?’

Karina’s face scrunched up in confusion.

"The gray particles. You really can’t see them?"

Andre’s prompt finally made Karina realize that something was indeed happening right in front of them.

She immediately began casting one Pupil Witchcraft after another, trying to see the gray particles Andre mentioned.

But no matter what she tried, she couldn’t see the gray particles he was talking about.

"Haven’t you mastered Soul’s Eye from the Soul Element?"

Andre was left speechless watching Karina cast one useless spell after another.

"Soul’s Eye... Hah!"

Hearing this, Karina let out a short, cold laugh, her expression a complex mixture of emotions with a hint of helplessness in her eyes.

Witchcraft of the Soul Element was known for being mysterious and powerful, and it was precisely this mystery and power that made it so incredibly difficult to master.

Seeing her reaction, Andre sighed in resignation and handed her a Potion.

"What’s this?" Karina asked, looking quizzically at the gray Potion in her hand.

"It’s a Soul Breath Potion. After you drink it, you’ll be able to see those Souls. Its only drawback is that the effect is rather short-lived."
