Chapter 222: Chapter 222: Ascetic

"Could you check for me?"

Karina looked at Andre, asking for his help.

"I’m not sure if I can help you."

Derek shook his head, then blinked, activating the Eye of Truth to observe Karina’s body.

At this moment, Karina’s body transformed into countless colors in his eyes.

These colors were the trajectories of the Magic Power within Karina’s body.

But no matter how Andre looked, he couldn’t see any trace of curse Witchcraft.

"It seems you haven’t been cursed!" Andre blinked, deactivating the Eye of Truth.

"Not cursed? You can tell just by glancing at me?"

Karina found Andre’s words hard to believe.

At the academy, she had seen others remove curses from their bodies.

When those people removed curses, they would either drink a Potion that could purify them or use Witchcraft on themselves to extract the curse from within.

But Andre had just taken a quick look and determined she had no curse inside her. How could she believe him?

"What else could it be? Your body doesn’t have the color associated with curse Witchcraft."

"Normally, curse Witchcraft appears as a light gray or a withered yellow, but neither of those colors are present in your Magic Power."

Andre’s words made Karina frown. If she hadn’t been cursed, then why had her luck become so bad?

"Then why is this happening?" Karina couldn’t understand.

"How about you try drawing another one."

After Andre finished speaking, he raised his eyebrows. Karina immediately shook her head.

"No way. I don’t have nearly as many materials as you do."

As she said this, Karina looked at Andre, hoping to hear him offer to provide the materials.

After all, Andre was a super-tycoon.

At least at their current level, Andre was indeed a super-tycoon.

But Andre didn’t take the bait and simply looked at her.

"Then just make something that can help you improve your own strength."

Upon hearing this, a look of disappointment clearly appeared on Karina’s face, but it vanished in an instant.

’It’s one of those things. If someone is willing to give you something, it’s because they want to help. If they’re not willing, you can’t exactly blame them.’

’After all, it’s entirely up to them.’

"What should I make?" At this point, Karina was completely lost in thought.

Back at the academy, to make it easier to gather information, she had mainly studied Witchcraft like Speed, flight, and concealment.

She had learned some other types of Witchcraft, such as attack and defense spells,

but she hadn’t mastered as many of them as she had spells for Speed and flight.

As a result, Karina now found herself at a loss, unsure what she could make to improve her own strength.

’If only I could get back to my Star Realm Battleship.’

Karina suddenly found herself missing her Star Realm Battleship.

If she could get back to her Star Realm Battleship, she could use the Interstellar Battleship to connect to the War Mother Ship and learn new Witchcraft.

But right now, she was stuck in the Tomb of the Giant Elephant with Andre.

On one hand, there was the immense fortune that was potentially within their grasp. On the other, it could all end up being for nothing.

Naturally, she chose the fortune that was potentially within reach.

"Here!" Andre had heard Karina’s sigh and tossed a book to her.

"This is a Level 1 Witchcraft Encyclopedia. You can take a look and learn some Witchcraft you didn’t know before!"

After speaking, Andre went back to mixing his Potion.

Karina picked up the book and stared at the tome in her hands, which was as long as her forearm, her jaw dropping.

"Oh, right. That’s just the first volume. The complete collection has 58 volumes in total, and that’s the version that was updated 300 years ago."

"The current version should be around 60 or 62 volumes!"

"This is only the first volume," Karina said, her eyes wide.

"Is that really so strange?"

Andre looked at Karina as if she were an idiot.

"The Complete Witchcraft series is edited and printed by the Tower of Black Stone. It’s distributed to all worlds under the influence of the Wizard Civilization Will for the purpose of spreading the heritage of the Wizard Civilization as quickly as possible."

"Therefore, when the Tower of Black Stone prints the Complete Witchcraft, they typically screen and select the vast majority of commonly used Witchcraft to be recorded in it."

"And the Level 1 Witchcraft Encyclopedia you’re looking at, along with the other 57 volumes, only records 1% of all the Level 1 Witchcraft in the Wizard World."

"It’s not even 1%, really, because new Level 1 Witchcraft are created every day."

Andre’s words struck Karina like a lightning bolt.

"Don’t tell me you read these kinds of books every day."

Karina’s voice was trembling slightly. It would take a very long time just to finish this first volume of the encyclopedia, let alone the 57 volumes that followed.

"That’s right. If I don’t read these books, what else is there to read?" Andre blinked.

"Witchcraft is the record of the traces of Truth in the world left by Wizards. Within every spell, there exists a certain amount of Truth."

"By reading these books, I can deepen my understanding of the Truth."

Andre’s matter-of-fact attitude left Karina dumbfounded.

’The way of the Ascetics... someone is still practicing that now?’

Andre now reminded Karina of a long-lost tradition in the Wizard World.

This tradition was called the Ascetics. Their exploration of Truth was to observe the traces left upon the world.

They sought to understand the Truth, to understand the world, through naturally formed Demon Patterns.

And to do this, they had to constantly wander the world.

Because of this method, Ascetics spent most of their time just traveling.

And when they found a new, natural Demon Pattern, they would sit beside it without eating or drinking, constantly observing and studying the trajectories of Magic Power within, in order to master the Demon Pattern for themselves.

Or, to put it more poetically and vividly, to have the Demon Pattern inscribed upon their own bodies.

It was precisely because of this extremely tedious and exhausting method that the number of Ascetics dwindled.

And now, in Karina’s eyes, Andre was a new type of Ascetic.

Although Andre didn’t constantly search for the Celestial Wolf Demon King to understand the Magic Power trajectories within those natural Demon Patterns like a traditional Ascetic,

the time and energy he spent just flipping through these volumes of Complete Witchcraft was not much different from the way of the Ascetics.

"You really have some willpower!"

Karina looked at Andre, and after holding back her thoughts for a long moment, finally said with resignation.
